Hm, that's a good point. I'm starting to doubt that it was Trinity. I mean that guy couldn't even kill a ran over deer, I don't think that was act. He was pretty much the definition of psycho, would he be able to kill outside his cycle? Would he be able to kill out of revenge/pushing dexter? Also what did he build that coffin for?

Removing pointless spoiler tag, you shouldn't be in this thread if you haven't seen the episodes yet anyway.
It was Trinity and he didn't kill outside his cycle, remember they found a boys body in one of the digs during the episode when they discovered kidnappings were what started the cycle. So killing Rita fits almost perfectly into it. And the coffin was for Trinity, he was going to kill himself, remember?
And Oh Em Gee if Rita dies via bathtub! Another monster born in blood? (Cody??)
I never liked Rita but it's only dawning on me now the sheer anguish that Dexter must be feeling. Rita did not deserve this at all.... Her KIDS don't deserve this.... Imagine how the fucking hell Dexter is going to break the news to Cody and Astor. Jesus Christ. I wonder what Trinity TOLD Rita as he slowly murdered her. Terrifying....
I also wonder if they'll ever show the actual murder of Rita... That would be too much.
Yeah...I believe it was real simply on the basis that if it was a dream, despite what a lot of people who angry about Rita's death, if it was a dream the show would lose almost all credibility and allure. Rita's death may be sucky for a lot of people- I'll miss her, she was hot- but once you cross that line you cant just go "PSYCHE! it was a dream!"
I mean if they do DO that, I wouldn't even bother watching the show anymore cause' of what a joke it would be.
Explain me few thing. How trinity found where Dexter Actually lived? The end was like Born In Blood. Like the killer knew dexter's childhood. The "Father" voices getting more and more like "kill kill kill" voice "you muuuust kill like I said" -- Of course it's quite impossible that Dexter killed Rita. But the message they are sending is that it might as well been him (at a subconcious level), would have been the same. Of course, they could never have done that because dexter would become very unlikable. Bad thing for a main character. This is what Trinity said in the end about path written by god destiny blablabla... -- Don't know about you but I had really no joy from him killing Trinity. He was just that sad little guy who is waiting for God to stop him or whatever, can't finish the deer he ran over. On the opposite, loved season three when he killed Miguel, such a pleasure as that guy was so arrogant. --
Trinity found Dexter using white pages reverse look up. Remember he found debs house first? He probably just went to the next "D Morgan" in the book. And yes, I believe it is meant to show how Dexter is responsible for Rita's demise and how he probably just turned his son into prima version of himself by allowing Rita to die in front of him in a similar fashion to how his mother died in front of him. Dexter is going to end up being like harry, he didn't want this life for his son, but since it will become unavoidable, Dexter will help him embrace his fathers legacy in a way he could never do for harry
Also, what is now Debra's place used to be Dexter's place, he had kept until very recently. The white pages might not yet have been updated, hell for all we know the lease might even still be in his name.
I mean we will never know, because "D." can mean both, but still...
The first people the police suspect when a spouse is murdered is the husband or the wife. This will open a shitstorm on Dexter. What IS Dexter's alliby for that night anyhow?? Not to mention Masuka saw Dexter kissing Rita. Possible Motive?
Chasing Trinity and killing him in self defense? :p I don't know, wouldn't be surprised if it boils down to that. Then again, how does he explain the missing body? Man I can't wait for the next season

you mean the Neighbor kissing Rita? Yeah but that did not seem to bother Dexter all too much and being how smart Masuka is, he knows this. Possible motive, yes, but not enough. It MAY could have been if the Neighbor's DEAD TOO. Is he?
Anyway pretty depressing ending in both show's season. Almost the same theme, you can't change who you are and when you think everything will finally be fine, everything goes for the worst (just so the show can go on)

lol yeah, I saw californication earlier today and was left with the same expression on my face as when I watched Dexter's finale.
Didn't like the final. Don't like such "oh but hey it just happened so". Rita died just because of bad luck. Doaks died jsut because of incredible bad luck. It's not like Dexter already have enough troubles, The killer was hanging out in the head quarter for quite a long time, Batista saw him and dexter talk...
I have the very strange feeling that they will just wipe out all this mess and magically start from nothing. Like they did with Doakes. It will be just a bad compromise to get the routine back and stay in the same crew. Good move would be to change city, get rid of the kids maybe just keeping his baby. (like sending them to their grandparents or something).
But yeah I think like the previous prediction. Dexter has totally been set up as a bad husband who killed his wife and tried to disguise it as a suicide. Quinn will be the next Doakes. I'm really not exited about the coming season... Hope Ill catch on, ive been a huge fan till now
The cops already know that Trinity is Arthur so if he did just call the cops then he would just look like another victim in the cycle. I dont see how the cops finding Rita will make them think Dexter did it. Personally, I did not like the ending...
Will they just decide to chalk it up to coincidence that the next kill of the cycle just happened to be the wife of someone who was working the Trinity case?
There was no reason to have Quinn breathing down Dexter's neck all season unless there was some kind of a reason for it. It wouldn't make sense if the writers just stopped the Quinn suspicion plot altogether.
Thinking about the circumstances of Rita's death leaves me really sad and infuriated. It was just so cruel. The whole time Trinity was on the table, he was at total peace, lecturing Dexter on his naivety, listening to Dexter explain how he had a family, knowing the whole time that he really didn't anymore....
The cruelness of Rita's murder, and the way that Trinity sent a message with it, stands in contrast to Dexter's small act of kindness by letting him die to the sound of his train set and Vera's favorite record. Holy fuck....
Add the fact that Dexter SAVED Trinity's life and it makes Rita's murder all the more tragic. This will be all on Dexter. He is going to have to somehow, come to grips with all this next season.

I dont think so. It is very clearly a Trinity killing. It was exactly 5 days after he kidnapped the boy and she is lying dead in a bathtub, and we can assume she was cut on the leg. There is no reason the police would even think twice about who killed her.

I think you need to rewatch the season because you clearly missed a few things. Trinity built the coffin for himself. Remember when he tried to commit suicide? Trinity killing Rita was not outside of his cycle. Rewatch the last episode. On the day Rita dies the police are talking about how it is exactly 5 days after the boy was kidnapped. It fits his cycle perfectly.
Well he tried jumping into a pole, how does he get into the coffin? Meh, I dunno. Probably that's the reason for the coffin but it still leaves an aftertaste. It's true that it fits into his cycle, but it doesn't fit the profile. Rita is a married older woman, to fit the profile she would've had to jump off a building.
Isn't it kind of obvious that she didn't deserve to die at all though.
Sick episode indeed, Dexter endangered his family so much lately and it will be hard to still have him be a semi-"good" guy in the series after Ritas brutal death. I wonder how they will continue the show. And can Dexter not go insane after this?
I can't wait to see what season 5 has in store for us
