I'm so elated right now.
The episode was fucking epic, better than all of season 6 combined.
Though it felt a little rushed for Deb to put the pieces together so quickly, I wouldn't have it any other way. Also, the church-scene felt clumsy as hell, I bet they rewrote that scene a couple of times and were never quite happy with it.
Nevertheless, this seems like a great way to start the season and I felt really, really bad for Deb. Somehow I'm a little disappointed that they aren't going to bang after all, that would have been quite intriguing.

What do you think that tranq shot to the steak (In the preview) was for?

Deb's gonna get impaled.

Just wondering, do people eat their steak first then fry an egg afterwards?

You wouldn't understand, it's a secret.

imho dexter is better than 24

That was a horrible fucking episode. So many things...were just so bad. Dexter's cover story for when he's out on a kill falls apart THAT QUICKLY by simply calling his babysitter. Wasn't the lesson Dexter learned over the passed several seasons DONT RUSH A KILL, and what does he do? He fucking kills a guy in an airport baggage hangar on the fly. We have the death of a police officer and who cares? Who the fuck cares?

Just a fucking awesome shot and perfect ending to the episode. I almost wish they would have ended it there. No need for the "Are you a serial killer?" Just let the image do the talking. In 99 other shows out of 100, I would agree with you. But with the constant flashback scenes of growing up together and how it's so important to never tell her what he's really like- and then for him to explicitly say those words- I think it's quite fitting. No bullshit, no lies, no convenient "oh it's just extra samples/ research"... the cat's out of the bag. The only concern I have is if we go into next episode and find out he was just having a nightmare or something and the reveal wasn't real. There is no way. They would lose far too many viewers if they did that (myself included.)
I agree. Such a huge plot twist in one episode, only to be reversed and undone by "lol jk" would be extremely stupid of them. It's not like this is a mistake; they knew they were leading into this, and they should have a really interesting way out from here. It would be incredibly cruel and disappointing to the audience to finally have this occur and then just remove it.
The good thing is: I'm pretty sure that the final scene really did happen. It'll set the stage for the entire season, and we'll see what happens. Does Debra capture Dexter? Does she hide the situation? Do they start to work together on the murders? Does she just die? How does this whole season play out?

If he needs to focus really badly, he often kills a person out of affect and in a rushed manner, taking risks to get his head straight.

He's never been all that careful around Deb, because up until now, he didn't have to.
The only truly terrible thing about this episode is that Deb messed up his blood slides.

haha thats true ^^ he wasnt an important character after all but i liked to have some fresh characters that stay around a little longer than some episodes until dexter kills him. I liked that guy even though i cant even remember his name
At the end of last season i said something like, yea they will find a way how dexters gonna prevent that deb knows anything. But someone corrected me and linked me an interview where some producer said that debs definetely gonna know everything.
So yeah.. the episode was nothing new for me. But i realised it has been some time since i watched a dexter episode because i wasnt that used to all that violence anymore ^^

Deb had so many things put together, but the babysitter confirming that he was "at work late like he so oftenly does" was the final straw. She knew something was up. Don't think that was the only thing that led to the unraveling of his story: She noticed Dexter had an excuse for everything, he did the exact same thing Brian did to her in s1, and Masuka was working late for Dexter, along with the babysitter claiming he was working.
Dexter was also taught to NEVER GET CAUGHT. Did Harry ever prepare him for that moment incase it came? Of course not, because he probably knew it was over for Dex, especially if Deb caught him. He lost control and a sense of direction, so he became desperate.
The death of that police officer is going to be the start of a possible additional enemy to Dexter(that fellow in the suit from Kiev) or at the least, the trouble for the department as they usually have each year, aka the Santa Muerta brothers from s4.
Anyway, I am very excited for this season. With so many dangerous people gunning for Dexter(LaGuerta will join the chase in addition to the already creepy intern, not to mention his sister will be dogging him the entire season, and who knows what to make of those Ukranians) this will make for a hell of a season hopefully.

I am really curious about how the whole Deb Dexter romance thing will play out. Sure, she just found out he is a serial killer. But in season 5 she let him and that girl get away with killing that guy (Can't remember names), so there is obviously a part of her OK with killing bad people.
Secondly, Dexter was taught everything by her father. A man she idolizes.
Thirdly, she called Dexter her "Safe place", she liked the fact that she felt safe around him. She has probably realised Dexter killed his real brother to save her life. Or at least realises that he chose her over his own real brother.
With the inter, LaGuerta, the Ukrain mob and Deb all on Dexter's ass, this is looking to be a very entertaining season!

I too did enjoy this first truly kickass episode - let me forget the rather "meh" season 6 in an instant
Really curious about how things will evolve and turn out in the end!

With the inter, LaGuerta, the Ukrain mob and Deb all on Dexter's ass, this is looking to be a very entertaining season! She aso trusted and loved Dexters brother, who went on to try to kill her. She already had this complex that she always fell for the wrong guy. Now it seems to have happened again. She has to realize what a perfect liar Dexter is. It would make no sense whatsoever if she trusts him after finding out how he deceived her over the years.
Apart from that she also has to realize that Dexter is the Bay Harbor butcher, and assume that he framed and killed Doakes, a fellow police officer. She would also have to assume that he is somehow involved in the death of Rita, maybe killed her himself.
The logical consequence would be for her to realize what a danger Dexter is to everyone around him, keeping in mind all those that have already suffered as a consequence of his illness. So it would be reasonable to try to safe at least Dexter's son from this madness. Which means putting Dexter into jail.
Of course all that wont happen, because thats not how the producers would want the show to develop. So she will have to make choices that make no sense whatsoever, cover for Dexter and try to better him.
Imo its unfortunate that she had to find out, because from this point on Deb cant behave like it would make sense for her character. But the fans wanted her to find out, so the writers had to make it happen regardless.
Apart from these upcoming problems, the first episode was really well done. I wonder if they hired some new writers after the letdown of season 5 and 6.

I was surprised that the writers actually put so much into one episode. Debra puts the pieces together in one episode, LaGuerta also has her suspicions (since she originally doubted that Doakes was the Bay Harbor Butcher) and there's also a Ukrainian mob involved (which are going to need some special tactics to find Dexter's identity). I would actually prefer that Debra finds out about it right away so we can see how she fights her inner-battle for justice or for love (in this case, brotherly and romantic love).
I honestly don't see how Dexter is going to squeeze out of this one (but he always manages to). A big question that needs to be asked though is what's going to happen to Dexter when it's all over (at the end of Season 8, which is the last season)? I personally think he needs to either:
1. Kill himself or be killed (If Dexter transforms into Walt and begins to kill to protect himself, he's becoming contrary to what he believed in when he first started killing.) 2. Give up his dark passenger.
We saw from the trailer that he isn't afraid of what Debra does, but more of what he will do. I think this season is definitely going to end with a huge cliffhanger which'll segue nicely into the eighth season.

Anyway awesome first episode. I don't think the the ending was a 'dream' or something. That kind of stuff they can pull in previews, and even in episodes but then it will get cleared up by the end of the episode. I doubt they would pull it as a 'first episode of the season ender', only to dismiss it as a dream of some kind later. That would be quite messed up.
--edit btw I'd vote for a 'no need for spoiler tags in obvious thread' policy. Let's face it, if you click on a '[TV] Dexter'-thread when the show is airing, people are going to be talking about the show which includes spoilers...

are you talking about the intro? because then idk.
Usually when i do it its because of the fat in the meat makes it less likely for the eggs to get stuck in the fryingpan but he's using butter anyway so.. who knows

Dexter vs special tactics... I think the world would implode due to the epicness that would take place.
