I agree with whoever said it was ridiculous that anyone could pull that off though. Also didn't really catch the point of the hand until I read this thread. Wasn't paying too much attention so I didn't even make the connection to season 1. Still, I very highly doubt that girl is of any importance except that she's a little crazy and will get Masuka into trouble.

Shit man...she's ruining it for me. The whole show is tight and bam, she has to fucking complain and cry like a bitch - without any real arguments - when Dexter digs into his bio-father's past and death. People without common sense and logic just make me cringe. It's like my fucking kryptonite I swear.

Contrary to what others are saying, having just watched Season 1 again, I do think that Deb gets considerably more tolerable after it. She was pretty bad in Season 1. I'm hearing a lot of consistency/realism complaints in this thread and I just want to point out that this has always been the case with Dexter. However, this shit doesn't need to ruin the show for you. In fact, for me, I like having these little things that remind me that it's not 100% realistic when I really get down to thinking about the show. Season 1 spoiler + Show Spoiler + For instance, the whole conclusion of season 1 and how Dexter explains why he's at the Moser household involves a call that never happened from Rudy/Brian to Dexter. Especially with how suspicious Doakes is of Dexter being there in the first place, there's absolutely no way that they wouldn't corroborate his story with phone records and discover that that call never happened. Also, the whole missing shoe thing with Paul is: 1. Way too sloppy for the character of Dexter 2. Doesn't make physical sense with how Dexter gets him to the car So really, if you look closely enough, you'll see these little things that are jarring enough to knock out your suspension of disbelief, but IMO, this is a good thing to have when talking about a show about a serial killer who we all sympathize with and root for. It's nice to not have to confront the implications of liking the character of Dexter in a totally realistic world and rather being able to write it all off as a world that's just off enough that you don't really have to feel bad about liking a serial killer. Bringing this back around to like, Breaking Bad, for instance, while I do really appreciate the show, the plausibility of everything that's happening and how dark the characters get makes me uncomfortable and ultimately makes me enjoy the show less, while in some ways appreciating it more (in that the writing is better and it's more believable). Ultimately, I watch TV to be entertained and Dexter is really really entertaining to me, and so even though Br Ba might impress me more, it doesn't entertain me more and thus I find myself going back and watching Dexter anyway, with its caricatures for side-characters and little inconsistencies.
