So yeah much of it is in space, which means space ships, space stations or asteroids etc. Life in space is exactly what it wants to portray. Life on earth and mars is not shown as much. Also it is limited to our solar system, in case you mean something different when referring to the universe. Since this is a pretty realistic setting there are no warp drives or whatever. If you dont want cheesiness this should be your thing. Less cheesy than any other SF series by a mile. First season might be a bit slow but whatever just try it out.

It's not like Stargate or Star Trek where you're visting different worlds, cultures and species every episode.

Which might be because I tend to be very critical of space-based SciFi and most of what I've seen (Start Trek, Firefly, one-off movies like Avatar) just looked horribly cheesy to me. However, the videos of the expanse I've seen on youtube look great, but it seems most of the show takes places in a space-ship environment, except for some politicians yelling at each other in small rooms? Is there no attempt to present different aspects of the universe, or did I just get unlucky with the selection of videos? The moment they started turning the ship around in S01E01 I was hooked. You should try it out ![]()

I make this comparison a lot, but there's absolutely no reason why this show isn't as big as BSG was.

For whatever reason, I assumed that all 3 seasons would be available on DVD already. Now I'm about to finish the first season, and the second isnt out, at least here in germany...

The opening scene with the girl-trapped-in-abandoned-space-station-with-something-being-wrong was so bad I legitimately considered throwing it away instantly, but I decided to stick around. And everything else I've seen so far was really great. Thanks for your advice. S2 is on netflix and s3 should be there in october if that is an alternative for you. Props for not pirating, but man it is like they want you to do it badly.

Some of the plotlines are a bit further along and into book 3, and others are changed significantly (often for the better: the whole Erinwright - Avasarala - Esteban - Mao drama/spygame was far better worked out on TV than in the book). One thing that was changed is Prax's story (a bit in the details, but so far not in how it affects the outcome). Do we think Strickland injected Mei with the protomolecule, and that will lead to further complications later in the season? Or is it a "happy" ending, as in the books? With them having the protomolecule launch from Venus (as in the books), there doesn't seem to be any need for her to be infected for the overarching plot, but the TV version does thrive more on the character-driven drama than on the abstract developments in the universe... which is more what the books center on, and while the Rocinante crew definitely play pivotal roles, they are far more plot devices than people, whereas the TV series centres far more on them as people.

Yeah i remmeber when how terrible it was waiting for season 2 on Netflix. Most of my friends already watched season 2 and were discussing it while i was still waiting for show being available. Its really dishartening, being punished for not pirating.

Although I hadn't realized this, but I absolutely did not miss listening to that annoying Belter speak, since its been out of the show for a long while now.

Makes a lot of sense. Amazon still wanted a big show and Bezos is totally into space exploration and apparently loves the books and the show.

Btw I really like how the Holden crew become celebrities. I think it makes a ton of sense with how they were involved in historic events. That is something that is often ignored in other stories.

Such details and characters helps to build a universe aroun main plot. Interesting, will we ever see Bobby and Doc on board of Rosi again...
