What do you mean double? a double issue is the opposite of what it sounds like - 1 release that takes up the time slots of 2. double issue = short break. that said, I have no idea what's going on right now, since it seems like the 2nd week where we've gone without. triple issue?

Yes. Every year, Jump has 4 scheduled breaks. These are the approximate times, the specific dates are different every year, naturally. Issue #04-05 -> third week of December Issue #06-07 -> first week of January Issue #22-23 -> last week of April Issue #36-37 -> first week of August As you can see, the issues all have a double number, hence why we call them double issues. In order to not break the naming pattern, the issues preceeding a holiday receive two numbers, covering for two weeks effectively, they are what we call double issues. Now, I know it may seem natural to assume that they also must contain two chapters of everything to 'make up' for the lack of Jump in the following week - but that is not so. See here for a more detailed explaination.

As somebody who has been following manga for quite some time, I am obviously aware what these are, however I find it mockingly funny that they are so different from what the name suggests.

It's not inaccurate, though. And it's not an uncommon practice. It's just a matter of perception and expectance. It would be wholly unrealistic to have double the amount of content in a single book if you think about it. The American magazine Entertainment Weekly, for example, goes about it this way: It publishes several "double issues" each year (usually in January, May, June and/or August) that are available on newsstands for two weeks; because the magazine numbers its issues sequentially, it counts each double issue as "two" issues so that it can fulfil its marketing claim of 52 issues per year for subscribers.

(while I've read about...25-50 percent of naruto, I am unfamiliar with some of the terminology for magna in general. what, exactly, is meant by "fan made raw"?)

I've never heard of double issue before but when I first read the term above, seems like it implies that there will be double released or something.

I'm just rather disapointed that those 30+pages were not cannon. Make that very disapointed. Even if they weren't even in English. At any rate, Kishi is gonna have his work cut out for him, explaining why suddenly you can stick #9 in before the others are in without gedou exploding, OR in distracting us with something on par with "Oh finally naruto gets the rinnegan."
