I suppose you could say the episode was good but the plot was bad. I was disappointed in Jiren's backstory.
One more thing: when it is just 1v1, what do we think happens if you kill your opponent? Do you win?

This episode suffered from a severe case of bad writing. That sums up 80% of what I didn’t like about it.

Yeah, they made it look like even Roushi was somehow close to Goku's power, only to then go back and make a point of Roushi's strength not being a physical one, but one of experience and cunning. So that whole sequence is probably best treated as filler. Gohan should've been a 2nd-tier fighter, along with Frieza and below Goku/Vegeta. However, this is a battle royal setting, and they did a terrible job of hyping Gohan up and making him relevant again in the first place. They spent way too much time trying to develop characters in universes that ultimately I didn't give a shit about, and spent not nearly enough time on the universes and characters that made this whole thing interesting.
This is the longest arc we've had so far by a considerable margin. When you just think back to all those drawn-out fights with characters who had no depth, and the nauseatingly out of place universe 2, I just wish they condensed it. If this is what the fights ended up being like, I would have preferred half the universes getting jobbed off-screen. Save us the time.

The fact that if they win they can bring 17 back with the dragon balls made the effect of his sacrifice pretty meh.

You really think the fighting was fun to watch? I for one, am sick to death of the constant "yadadadadadadada" fight scenes where nothing's really going on (other than filling up minutes of the episode) and having to listen to an 80 year old lady trying imitate a machine gun with her kiai.
I also dislike how DBS has gone the way of other modern Japanese anime where the screams of young children who witness murders are curdled and dramatic. I miss the simplistic rage cries of Gohan during the Nappa and Cell sagas which were more suitable for a younger audience who want to watch awesome fighting animes.
I also find it hilarious how people are giving the recent episodes shit when previously they were complaining about Vegeta always being cannon fodder and how he never gets any significant wins, yet when he beats Toppo's ass in an absolutely badass fashion, all they want to talk about is Master Roshi being inconsistent and ignoring what happened that week altogether.

I love that old lady and her machine gun kiai. So I'm guessing no one thinks there was any significance to Toppo's grunt when everyone was ooing and ahhing over Jiren? Just some jealousy maybe?

The writing isn’t subtle or precise enough for me to assume any hidden meaning in something like that. There isn’t enough storytelling time for Jiren to be anything but a generic buff guy, honestly.

I really don't enjoy DSB, don't like how they treat gohan, don't like the voices, don't a lot of the fights, don't like how Goku and Vegeta are taking so much hits (are they in competition with Luffy?) well really dislike DBS

The legacy of DBS rests on how well they can wrap up this arc. My hopes are not that high.

Theres no way that this doesnt end up with a generic goku wins and wishes everyone back, would have liked to see some fusion from goku and vegeta but the preview suggests that it isnt happening
17 shouldnt be stronger than mystic gohan but he is in dbs (which is retarded...) the fact that any of the andriods could become stronger than perfect cell is the dumbest thing ever but its way too late for that
The fights scene are alright, dbz didnt have amazing fight scenes all the time i remember alot of backgrounds with just white flashes and sounds but it certainly had more tense moments and sick speechs. Vegeta dying infront of trunks was way more meaningful than the dbs final sacc because he got back up and powered unto ssb2 in the next two seconds? Its like they thought of every cool dbz scene then wrote stuff around it

that was complete bullshit. Sure, Gohan is nowhere close to Blue but so is 17. DBS is trying to spin it as him being close, that's utterly and completely bs. It's one thing to say he's smart and strong but 17 had no business surviving to the end. Freiza makes much more sense for example and even he was demolished by Toppo...
Also, what was 17 doing this whole time? He was working in some conservatory. I'm sure fighting villains with guns who even trunks or goten can easily handle gave him such god powers. On a side note, I still liked the episode though the sacrifice at the end felt meaningless since he can be wished back.

against Piccolo and goku they hypped gohan af, like he was going to achieve something beyond mystic... I still think it could have been good to see him going S.Sayan Red and go full sacrifice against Toppo

At the end of the day the problem is that like GT, the show isn’t sufficiently self-aware. We know that any deaths are going to be Dragon-balled back, that Vegetable will show impressive power but get bodied by the main villain, and that it’s going to end up being the Goku show. But it’s as if we’re meant to buy into the obviously false narrative that it somehow won’t be like that.

More than SSB, 17 was briefly able to fist clash with (angry) Jiren, which was laughable - no comment. At least they're consistent in hyping him up and it was just before he vanished so whatever. I can live with 17's power level commensurate with Gohan's by some ***pull, what really didn't make sense was how he de facto became team leader, when Gohan was supposed to be the smart one.

We complain a lot but imagine if they left the end of this arc ambiguous and gave this forum their pick of a writing/animation team to finish this arc and do at least one season. Before the end of the season we'd already be back wondering what idiots could have possibly put these teams together on this project.

i don't know; I read some fan made Dragon Ball manga that made more sense than DBS. Imagine if the authors get paid and go full time for it; it could not be worse that what Toei is producing.

I would pick writers who actually like the other relevant characters as well instead of just the ones with the biggest Goku hard ons.

Fun fact there's no lead writer in DBS, only episode writers who come and go depending on the episode with general direction of where the story is going. A bit like some TV sitcom and soap opera.
