Ofc most people here will say yes, they are here to discuss it week to week in the first place. Personally i think it is by far the worst official dragon ball series yet. Not a lot of direction and clear narrative structure. Despite lots and lots of "filler like" moments not much character development either. If i didn't have the bad habit to finish series/books even when i don't like it much i probably wouldn't watch it any further. With that being said just watch a few episodes and decide for yourself, usually that's the best way. Unless you know that somebody has the same view on art as you do you simply cannot take his opinion and base yours around that ![]() On October 03 2016 12:50 LegalLord wrote: Yeah, it's pretty good. If you like DBZ and you're not an annoying contrarian it gives a lot of good things to enjoy. Yeah only annoying contrarians could be disappointed with the master piece that is DBS

Of course if it didn't have Vegeta in it as much I might not feel that way . But I think it's really good, way better than GT and I look forward to the show every week.

I peeked at GT expecting sh1t, based on what i heard, and it never caught my attention. But i decided to check this anyway and i was very surprised. It has the original DB feeling! Better animation is just a small plus. In fact, the first episode was so refreshing that it gave me the original DB (pre-Z) nostalgia, but following the Z timeline, completely ignoring GT (which is great!). I might watch it, despite the fact that i barely watch anime nowdays (i read a lot of manga). I do expect it to turn into DBZ non-stop fighting, but its still ok as long as its better paced. It just feels weird to see Goku, with the same kid voice, after so many years, fighting like a young man lol.

With DBS there doesnt really seem to be that, storylines are started and wrapped up as quickly as they appear, characters are introduced and quickly forgotten or made irrelevant, there never seems to be a serious threat despite enemies being magnitude times stronger than the "heroes" and it removes alot of what made DBZ good, the narrative and tension it built - of course you always knew goku was going to turn up and power up for 20 episodes before spirit bombing them but it was always a struggle and they were always dangerous. In DBS its, oh we got the shit kicked out of us, better go back to the present eat a senzu bean and then have an episode about adult trunks sulking and kid trunks being emo before dinner with dead but not dead mum. Im enjoying it..but give me a storyline i can get wrapped up in, give me some serious danger and character development ![]()

+ Show Spoiler + goku is always #1, goku is always the one who saves the day, goku is the only one who matters I know it was mostly like this in dbz too but it wasn't this extreme

Was hoping Super would diverge a bit on who gets to beat the bad guy, but I don't think that's going to happen at all. Also don't think anyone but Veget/Goku/Bulma/Beerus/Whis and I guess Future Trunks are going to get some character development.

There are a lot more focus on Trunks this time around and I am really liking him as a character. He has a lot more depth than goku and vegeta. Vegeta just needs another way to be relevant imo, he is nothing but a side kick for goku and even though he is married and has a son, his character never felt evolved at all

+ Show Spoiler + And the fact that Beerus and Whiz are main characters now is also nice since Goku and Vegeta are already the strongest non-gods in our universe and timeline. Also, since Goku became friends with the Omni-King and travel between the universes seems to become a thing, the possibilities are basically endless. The current storyline combining time-travel with gods from different universes is pretty interesting, even though a bit confusing at the moment.

Vegeta is my favorite DBZ character, but I think he's beyond redemption at this point because he never got to have "his" moment as a hero. His pride would always get in the way of more important things (like when he endangered the entire planet because he was so certain Perfect Cell couldn't beat him). But then in the Buu saga he puts his pride aside multiple times. He not only (unsuccessfully) blows himself up to save everyone from Buu - his goodbye to Trunks is one of the more emotional scenes in DBZ I remember, with actual development to his character, too. He also agrees to permanently fuse with Goku through the Potaras to stop Buu (which of course also didn't end up working out). He actually had a turnaround as a character at some point. The Battle of Gods movie was still fine in that sense. So what do we have in Super? Let's see... oh yeah, he let Frieza destroy the planet because his pride got in the way of killing him quickly (like he said he would). And now he keeps charging headfirst into battles only to get his ass kicked instantly, having no actual contribution. He had some cool moments overall (like when he OnePunch-Man'd Frost) and some nice fatherly moments during this arc. But in general he's a completely useless tool. Meanwhile, Goku got angry so he was strong enough to kick the living shit out of both opponents by himself for a moment, with Vegeta watching on in utter uselessness as per usual. I've given up hoping Vegeta will actually do something and it helps me enjoy Super more.

Hmm, I don't like it as much as Dragon Ball Z. Character is abit cliche . Like cliche actor U see Goku , now become so naive , childish and stupid. In Dragonball Z he is naive and innocent but still acting like an adult. Not over the top. U see Vegeta, remember Nappa and Frieza saga. He is so strong willed, that defy the odds facing strong odds yet still proud and unwilling to submit. Standing up again yet again and so confident in his Saiya-jin Abilities? Then slowly he start to adapt due to Goku and earth influence. He is still proud, unwilling to accept the fact Goku is stronger. The character development is real. Now Vegeta, is cliche too. The way he act in front of Beerus, the cooking, the way he loses his battle so easily.. .. It does not seem like the Vegeta I noe . So is Krilin , afraid of Frieza goons gets me abit. Even Beerus seems like odd character. Introduced as sum1 who heck care and destroy when he is bad mood. Now every1 is able to mingle with him so well , especially Bulma who often can rebute him so easy without beerus destroy the Earth. Beerus is like some old person, give empty threat now. And new form is unoriginal . At least GT SSJ4 is new design. Golden Frieza seems lazy power up. So is God form Goku . And new god , the god of everything design, like a young innocent kid, but with extreme amount of power. Actually, I kind of expected it, ever since I saw Golden frieza. and new goku power. When Whis said they are some new powerful thing even stronger than beerus and whis. I kinda expect it will be some young spoilt kid design with extra ordinary power. I wasn't so off from there.... *EDIT* Not to mention SUPER DRAGON BALL. QaQ They should come out with new material. Like how WWE wrestler reinvent themselves to stay fresh. I still watch though, haha. I do not like it when is so much worse than Dragonball Z , but I do not hate it. I enjoy it, but sometimes when I watch there are some issue that gets me .

Even in the Buu saga he still had his moments but now he's irrelevant. Anyway it was a nice episode. I think they'll have to destroy the time ring or something to defeat Black and Zamasu in the end.

Incidentally, I have said that I like how they developed Videl. Her development into a loyal and loving mother/wife is very much in line with her personality. You can clearly see that while she is interested in combat, that she is also very aware that she is out of her league and that she is also a kind-hearted, if outwardly cold, character. It makes perfect sense for her to evolve into that role. Future Trunks is a good example of how Gohan perhaps should have been. Clearly not a pure blooded Saiyan warrior like Goku or Vegeta, but fully aware that peace cannot be taken for granted and that it has to be fought for. Obviously there are important differences that would develop by virtue of having different lives, but the Gohan-Future Trunks pair characterization was one of the best, and one of the most wasted ones in the series.

That was the Cell saga. The way you say it, it sounds like he thought about it and decided to use his power when in reality he was literally physically and mentally tortured by Cell until he broke. Gohan should be allowed to live the life he wants. He has done more than enough for the Earth. He shouldn't have to keep training, because maybe some day it would be necessary. Especially with Goku and Vegeta there. I think what they are doing with Gohan is a completely natural step for the character and I am happy that he has found happiness. Back to the recent episode Possible spoiler about episode 62 + Show Spoiler + From the preview about episode 62 it sound like they are going to use the "Evil containment wave". Talk about a throwback.

You simply cannot take peace for granted. Young Gohan understood that quite well. Buu saga and on Gohan somehow forgot that somewhere along the way.
