the anime just got released recently, at least the first episode I think. I don't believe there is a thread but we can probably use this thread to discuss it. I think as long as you mention you are talking about the anime, then I doubt there are issues with discussing it here
I just finished reading chapter 45 although the raws for chapter 46 are out and I believe there is a rough english translation out as well but I'm going to wait to get the best translation lol. I'm really enjoying this, thanks OP! I do find it really weird that Ryner revealed that him and Bernthold are both the armored and colossal titan respectfully since I figured that would come much later but it's also possible that he realized that they won't be able to get to Eren so easily seeing as how Annie already failed and everyone is doing a great job at keeping Eren safe and such. I am really excited to hear more about their backgrounds. Are they humans that become titans after getting some injection or are they titans that were able to assume a human shape? It's an intriguing question and I hope we manage an answer for it soon enough.
I'm really excited about the basement but as mentioned, I think it's the final thing or one of the final ones in the manga since it'll explain all the mysteries or one would presume about the titans. Looking at the different types, to some degree, I do wonder if all the titans are just humans but those who have an objective and in control are the intelligent ones while the rest become rather stupid because they just can't control themselves. I'm not sure where the eating people part comes from though. The furry titan is quite an interesting titan as well. I do wonder where he stands since the other titans do seem to fear him but that could be due to just how scary and tall he is, etc... and less about following orders or having been a commander or something.
Mikasa's background and what her parents' marked on her hand that was passed down in her family was never explored so I do hope we hear more about it. I get the feeling that she comes from some elite tribe or something seeing as how she pretty much just kills titans left and right, is quite fearless and has amazing reflexes and such. I really expected Eren to be playing the role she is though, as in he will be the one who kills a lot of titans rather than bait and being able to change into a titan since he made that promise to wipe them all but I guess, he's still fulfilling that role just not in the way I thought he would. So many questions that need to be answered such as the religious sect's role in the wall, more details about the ruling family, where did the titans come from in the recent attack since there was no breach, how did humanity build that wall, where does Ryner, Bertholdt and Annie fit into the situation, Eren's father, etc... Part of me hopes that Eren loses to Ryner and gets dragged to their hometown or 'village' so that we can at least see where they come from but at the same time, it almost feels like Eren has lost his role aside from being bait so him taking out Ryner on his own would at least recover his image imo although he's doing one hell of an amazing job considering what he has to work with and against
Edit: That explanation about why Ryner is the armored titan using the hints is amazing! I do like Eren and Mikasa's relationship in the story as well like the time when he passed the simple 3D maneuvering test and then looked her and was thinking how she can't look down on him but she thought that he wants to escape from her lol or just how she acts around him. Makes it more believable than if the characters didn't care/have any feelings about anyone else and it's not oversaturated like with Naruto either. I know it's supposed to be familial feelings but I do feel like there is more to it than that but they are both oblivious to their feelings which might be a good idea till the end of the manga.
Its in episode 5 right now. And man oh man this is so awesome that I had to read the manga, a lot of things makes sense so far. It isn't one of those (these guys are the bad guys because I said so), it has explanations that really make up a good story, and the gore is just epic.

If the Titans are able to use maneuvering gear humanity will have no hope whatsoever. And they've already taken it. Only going to be a matter of time before that's revealed.
It seems to be quite obvious that the titans are not a unified front, and that extermination of humanity is not their primary goal. Because if that had been the case, that could have been easily accomplished 5 years ago if the colossal titan had just kept on pushing forward and breaking down gates.
Also, the infiltrating titans have been using maneuvering gear for quite some time now (at least 5 years if one is to assume that the cast members are the first infiltrating titans). I think there has also been some speculation that the colossal titan already used maneuvering gear in the first assault, which would mean that at least some faction of the titans had access to it before the breaching of the walls.
As to the recent titan attacks, my best guess is that they are all somehow transformed from that village with the immovable titan in it. That would fit into the whole "no reproduction, where are they coming from" problem with the titans. It kind of means that the whole thing is a disguised zombie scenario.
If i were to speculate, i'd say that the world is a future version of our world, there have been quite some hints regarding this (salty oceans, "orientals" exist, human conflicts before titans arrived, lots of distinctly german names (though those names are a lot more "german" then the average german name is here). Simplest explanation would be the titans being some kind of biological weapon gone wrong, or something along those lines.
Yes! I was hoping he would lose because I just couldn't see him winning in his situation and it would've killed the idea of how amazingly strong the armored titan was supposed to be etc... I am disappointed though that in 44 pages, all they managed to do was get the horses and then decide on what to do which was kinda obvious. I do hope that in the next chapter, he actually discusses things with Ryner instead of trying to run or fight them because I'm really curious to know what they want to do with Eren and of course, Ymir.
I watched one through five, and just now read volumes one and two. It was all well and good until that titan started to attack the others and I'm just sitting here thinking "Thats Eren isn't it? This just got really stupid didn't it?" And a few moments later, and my suspicions are confirmed. >:
So, I'm wondering if I should continue reading at all?
Consider that I highly enjoyed enjoyed it up until that point, but that event was so awful that I wanted to throw up, quit reading and drop the show. Is more of the manga focusing on this latter point and its all important? Or does it return to more of the parts like it was before that? If its here and there, I think I'd be fine, but if its constantly happening and everything is all about him transforming and such, then I'll have to pass.

The rest of the plot is based pretty heavily on that development. I encourage you to continue reading though. The feel of the manga is kept rather consistent throughout, and Eren's abilities are really only pivotal in that they're an angle to understand the titans.

Not a single thing has been explained since that transformation.
Its rather quite frustrating, there's been 100 questions raised, but literally maybe half an answer at best.
I mean, Eren loses (unsurprisingly), and then we basically get an entire chapter of "let's go get him!". At least next chapter sets us up for some questions actually being answered.
best thing I coulda wished for honestly, I feel like this was better than the "hurp I can hurt the armored titan cus I am martial artista" which makes story progression so slow ;;

lol ya I agree. It seemed odd that the armored titan was almost defeated using martial arts, mostly since he was hyped a lot and Eren winning from the first time would've been unexpected imo
