Proceeded to spend the next 5 hours reading the manga. I've only read two mangas prior, most of Berserk and Doubt. ;; fuck waiting.

Because after 44 chapters, I've only gotten progressively more mindfucked. There needs to be some progression of plot or resolution of at least one conflict pretty soon, or this manga is going to go the way of Gantz, and be mired in 400 chapters of mindless fighting.

I'd say the animation is well done and tries very hard to suit the style of the manga. It's almost as if they expect the viewer to have read the manga already--i've seen quite a lot of homage already I'm slightly disappointed where the story starts off (with less exposition/background about the wall and the titans than i would like) and starts right in the fray of the characters, then again this is just the very first episode and first impressions are important. I'm more frustrated with the translations of the fansub i'm watching though, haha. Beautiful efforts on the environment art. As expected of the production of a very successful manga. (:

Frankly the comic has progressed much faster then other's 44 chapters for how much it's given story is way quicker then most. Also the writer has to be careful there is only one way to tell this, this isn't bleach where you give resolution to killing a bad guy then insta new bad guy. There are still alot of good questions to explore but they gave like what 20 or so chapters setting up the world and main character backstory. Now you can go into other characters, or into where titans come from, or why the main character can transform into a titan, or why any of them can, or what is in the basement, or where/what is the place that titans go to the place they wanted to take the main character, or who/what is the harry titan, or how the walls were built, even who is the king can be used to take up a few chapters. What is going on how is a little bit of backstory of other characters along with introductions of more characters, mostly due to what they are doing with the characters they introduced during back story of main character which will lead into why can they go between titan and human. woo being vague... 44 chapters is pretty good, i can see a good progression and this going on for about a solid 200 chapters without much filler. That being said you want to complain about comics that go nowhere read skip beat.

That manga has gone for nearly 400 chapters, with absolutely zero resolution in sight. New story lines open, old ones are left unanswered, etc. I just hope this story resolves in some kind of direction soon. I don't expect major plot points to be resolved, but I wish just a little bit would be revealed.

Personally this style of storytelling for shingeki no kyojin is really turning me off to reading it. I don't even care if stuff isn't explained. But when there are obviously very important questions (for example, the basement, my biggest peeve about the series) and the story isn't progressing in a path that leads to answer those questions, it's bothersome. There's a lot of rich plot that this story has to offer for sure, but it's continually throwing so many new things at us without answering ANY of them, and that isn't good story development.

The word manga doesn't even mean an art style, although there are connotations attached to it especially to the western world it's not a rule of thumb; Akira is a good example of such contradictions to style cues. The only thing that is 100% is how you read which is right to left top to bottom. I read many comics hell i buy into dc and marvel's databases once a year to catch up on series. If there aren't proper words to describe something it doesn't exist at least it shouldn't because then you lead people on.

Personally, I think the pacing fits a lot of the couple hundred page long novels I read. Right now we're going through the buildup phase, where all the problems are made to seem innumerable and insurmountable. If this isn't a run-on manga, I could easily see this part of the plot safely lasting 100-300 episodes with some questions being answered but most left unanswered until the final conflict of the plot. If this thing's going to be any good, the tension should keep rising for a while, so I wouldn't read these things as they come out. This manga really lends itself to being read (and repeatedly reread because of the many hints) in one sitting. I could definitely see this manga becoming a run-on manga, though, considering its success. If that were to happen, it'd pretty much become automatically terrible. I'd rather a great story end than have it be slowly perverted into a commercialized piece of shit.
