i rlly hope this happens and it verry well might, Galadriel already said to gandalf that she will be there when he needs her.

How would his "Gandalf form" hold him back? Just wondering.

I dunno, I kinda doubt that. Yeah, Gandalf and Sauron are both Maiar. But to say they are equal because they are the same "race", is like saying all humans have the same power/strength.

3 films is not justified. The actual book isn't even up to 300 pages.. Are they planning on making a film every 10 pages or something?

I thought so before I went to see it. But Jackson included a lot of content that's been written by Tolkien into other books, such as the appendices from The Lord of the Rings and this adds a lot of time and really interesting content in the movie.

Quite true. Also, balrogs are Maiar, but they seem weak to me. Many of them were killed at the Fall of Gondolin by a human and elves. Then again, I tend to think that people in the First Age are generally more powerful than the rest. Not sure why, but they just seem more powerful as depicted by Tolkien.

I believe it is also mentioned somewhere that the Wizards lost some power when they were sent to Middle-Earth, because of they were made similar to humans or other races. Gandalf had a very hard time fighting random Balrog #027, he couldn't take Sauron head on.

I think the first 2 films are on the hobbit, the third is made from the stories of all the other books tolkien wrote, or something like that. But I'm not 100% sure of that

That sounds interesting actually.. I read the Hobbit several times as a kid but it did include a couple of plotholes... Like that random half-human half-bear in the forest + the origin of Smaug (or whatever his name was)..

I might go see it with my girlfriend actually :D

After Sauron's defeat in the 2nd Age, and the Ring getting cut from his finger, he lost his physical body. What was left over is his "spirit" or whatever. It took him a long time to re-gather his strength. He can manifest in different ways. I don't think the "Necromancer" that was shown was a physical body, anymore than that flaming eye in LotR was a physical body. Just different manifestations of his spirit.

Sauron was among the greatest and strongest of the maiar, and gandalf was certainly among the lesser. the 5 istari was sent into middle earth by the valar ca 1000 years into the third age, with Saruman as the strongest member and leader. Worth mentioning is that gandalf initially didn't want to go, because he was afraid of the power of Sauron (should prove that he in no way could confront sauron alone).

Really, Gandalf alone didn't have the power to defeat the balrog. However he was given one of the elven rings, narya, when he arrived middle earth by Círdan. This powered him up quite a lot, which is why he was able to fight the balrog (barely). Sauron was a lot stronger than the balrog in moria.

Their mission was to help the people of middle earth in the struggle against sauron. However they were told not dominate the people of middle earth to hey were forbidden to dominate the peoples of Middle-earth or to match Sauron's power with power (which Sauroman obviously failed, and was why he was overpowered by the resurrected Gandalf).

Kinda the point of Gandalf is how he is able to beat both Sauron and Saruman by befriending factions, gather allies and outwit the evil power.

Overall a good film, certainly way above the average fantasy movie or even movie in general. There are a few things that do bother me about it though and keeps it from going anywhere near LotR in my mind.

Tolkien's universe has always been about realism. Sure, there are orcs, wargs and mages but you've always had the sense that it's the real world with magical creatures added. When a dwarf falls 20 meters and lands on a small bridge only to drop another 20 meters and then keep running like nothing happened, you lose that feeling...
At times The Hobbit feels like the Pirates of the Carribean of fantasy movies. You almost expect Johnny Depp to show up as Radagast in the next movie >_<

It's still a really enjoyable movie, that I'd recommend people go see. I like how they handled the story and I'm looking forward to seeing how the part with the White Council and Dol Guldur plays out in the next two movies. The characters where also potrait in a good way, I'm especially impressed by the way they actually managed all 13 dwarfs to stand out. Radagast was annoying though. Easily the wrost part of the film.

I got the same Pirates of the Carribean vibe and it bothered me a little. I could handle 90% of it, but when they all went for a ride on that janky wood scaffolding I thought it was a little too much.
