No, this is not a joke/trolling thread. We don't need more filler posts asking if it is.

Remember to spoiler season 6 content, and clearly label your spoilers.

I want the show to end. Don't get me wrong, I love the show and I'm getting less and less concerned with what people would think of me for watching it every day, but I want to see some closure from the series instead of Hasbro trying to drag it out beyond it being good. Beating a dead horse and all that...

That said, I have no idea how many seasons that could possibly take, and I'm all for them continuing to make the show for the next several years. I just don't want it to go the same path as, say, Spongebob, where it started out hilarious and has now gotten to the point of being something I absolutely refuse to watch.

The most I've done so far to support the show financially is purchase the episodes from iTunes, but if they started producing show-accurate plushies, I'm not sure I could resist getting at least one (probably Applejack). I mean, I still have a stuffed buffalo that came from a can I got when I was like 4 years old; It's a weakness of mine I guess. There's enormous financial potential for Hasbro, and I think they'd go down in the same book as Fox (with the whole Firefly debacle) if they squandered the opportunity to make some money off of this.
Ickyness is often a side-effect of hard work. But y'all need to get over it.

I don't think you fully appreciate the sheer vastness of creative resources available to the show.

Strictly comedic properties like SpongeBob or The Simpsons have nothing to fuel their episodes with but back-to-back jokes and gags which - however varied - dull their edge over time. The audience doesn't care about the characters themselves, so each scene has to be about making you laugh, or else it's a failure. MLP:FiM carries no such constraint. Neither does it have a dramatic overarching story whose terminal conclusion to postpone and drag out with filler. It's free to mix-and-match tones, scenes and continuity as it pleases, episode after episode, season after season. It's about ponies doing stuff and having a good time in the end. Character attachment is a tremendous advantage when it comes to longevity.

Now, thus far it has held onto a relatively narrow theme of life & friendship lessons, but as the very source of the series' often-criticized predictability, it's not even an asset, but a burden. What do you think happens if they run out of ideas for (or choose to move away from) heavy-handed aesops and just start writing The Pony Show?

With a setting and characters as flexible as the show has, the entirety of human storytelling is practically at its immediate disposal - just add ponies. The character-driven style lets it break from comedy without being boring, and from sincerity without being cheap. Most properties can't. A couple of years down the line we might have a take on film noir in Manehattan.

The range of compelling possibilities is literally as limitless as it gets. The best SpongeBob can do is a five-minute spoof.

I like the constraint of friendship lessons. It keeps the show grounded. A lot of shows have been killed by the writers being 'creative' and doing what they want.

My only real concern over the future of the show is the changes to the writing staff in S3. Cindy Morrow and Amy Keating Rogers are both going to start work on a new Care Bears series(though Morrow's confirmed that she's written some episodes for S3), and Dave Polsky(the only episodes he's done are Over A Barrel and Feeling Pinkie Keen) is going to be doing more.

Personally, even if S3 remains at 13 episodes, I'm completely fine with shorter seasons if it means the staff doesn't get burnt out and we get a few more.

Also, caumen is currently in England (and never visits anymore) wouldn't be able to atm. Otherwise, get diversee, SD and bloody!!!!!! I can try to organize again after the 16th, but until then, I'm "supposed" to be working hard.

Very cute, some good animation and voice acting moments. However incredibly predictable, lesson was more forced than usual, and no one's actions felt of real consequence due to pacing.

Nice continuity references.

Writing is a very low-commitment field. Putting out a few basic scripts for a new show of the same network wouldn't get in the way of their other work. Also, "some" episodes? Out of the 23 of S2 aired, Morrow has written four. Doesn't sound like much of a downplaying to me.

I've never had a problem with the plot being predictable as a whole. It's when the characters say exactly what you expect them to say at each little moment.

I don't mind the lesson being there to frame the episode (as I said it works as a constraint) but having every line of dialogue be an obvious jumping-up-and-down reference to it is bad writing.

So I agree with both of those things I wrote. I'd rather it was predictable than random.

Isn't the fact you can predict what the characters are going to say just evidence of good characterization, like you know them on a level where you can understand how they are going to react to the situation.

My biggest problem with the latest episode (which was still really great) was how it only glossed over the statement of human nature where we only find gossip offensive if it's about us. Much of the main 6 and ponyville found it really funny until they started finding stories about themselves, and then they get mad at the cutie mark crusaders. This is realistic and fine, but ponyville really should should have apologized at the end as well for encouraging it.

That's a false dichotomy there. There's no inevitable demon of "random" lurking right outside your comfort zone. People tell coherent stories without telegraphing them in advance all the time. Settling for what "hasn't killed me so far" isn't doing you any favors.

I have to agree with Soleron, I've never really cared that most of the plots are predictable; it's been a long time since I've watched something I considered unpredictable, and most of the time the unpredictable stuff is less coherent and therefore less enjoyable to me. And I also agree about most of the predictability being caused by the good characterization as well. I don't think I'm alone in saying that I feel like I actually know these ponies, and while it makes them more predictable, it also makes the show come alive.
