No, this is not a joke/trolling thread. We don't need more filler posts asking if it is.
Remember to spoiler season 6 content, and clearly label your spoilers. |

Hasbro only ordered 13 episodes. They can order more. Hopefully they see that it's a good IP and continue it =D

Myyyy liiifffeee uses ovvverrr ;_; It's only confirmed for 13. Hasbro did that so they could syndicate the show as fast as possible, since I believe it's easily the best show on the Hub right now. I believe they just ordered half a season to syndicate the show (you need 59 episodes minimum to do this), and then fill out the season if everything goes well. It's basically to allow them to cut their losses if the brony fandom turns out to be a fad and passes. Or they could simply want to have 13 episode seasons after syndication. While this would suck, it's a better alternative to having 59 episodes of pony plus maybe a movie or two, and nothing else.
I honestly think they'd shoot themselves in the foot if they cancelled the series after that (apparently they just recently hired a new writer, so there's a good chance they'll see the third season through, especially if the season 2 finale goes well). Yeah, the older generations of the show didn't have a pile of episodes either, but bronies really throw a new dynamic into it. They could easily stop producing the show and maybe make a movie or two to close G4 media-wise, but they can keep the toy line going for a few years off the stuff they've produced.
The problem is, it would actually be a detriment to them to do this, unlike G1-3.5. Bronies are a significant enough demographic that they've hired someone specifically to understand us as well as making toys of popular ponies (Vinyl) and making their toys more show-accurate. Two things that their original demographic wouldn't give two horseapples about, but us bronies have been whining about for over a year and a half. The thing is, the whole brony part of their market would be gutted if they stopped the show. Most of the "casual" bronies would leave the fandom when new episodes stopped airing, meaning less fan content and fansite stuff (and cons) across the board, leaving only the really loyal ones like me. Eventually, those "uber bronies" would drift away from the fandom one by one until only an insignificant following remained.
I think they'll at least do season 3, and will do a 4th season for sure if their fall toy line that has bronies in mind meets their expectations, especially if they understand that the brony market's longevity highly relies on continued production of the show.

Corporations are known for doing some really stupid stuff sometimes. Especially when stock holders who care about nothing but profits are holding the reins. I actually wouldn't be surprised if Hasbro did cancel after season 3.
Either that or I've been jaded by the amount of customer loyalty big businesses often show and the lack of decision making by a lot of CEOs I've seen in my life.

I know what you mean, but I was taking a financial approach to my logic.
You see, we have conclusive evidence that Hasbro acknowledges us and on top of that, likes us. If they also know that the brony community will be crippled to the point of being insignificant in their profit margin the second they stop making episodes and/or G4 movies, then it will be in their best interest to keep making the show and staying milking this cash cow until the brony community starts to die out on its own.
Obviously we're not the be all end all of their bottom line, far from it, but we're an important enough part for them to acknowledge us in their merchandise directly. Yeah, they could cancel the show after episode 59, but I assume that if they do, it'll be due to ignorance/misguided disagreement of the points that I've made.
Either way, JT himself said not to worry about this sort of thing, so I'm not really dwelling on it; I just felt like voicing my thoughts on the whole scenario from both sides.

I don't know if I agree with the whole losing bronies from a financial standpoint when the show ends. If anything, this fandom has shown that even in the lack of content (Summer) we are still more than willing to spend money on show related items. This fandom reminds me very much of the Firefly "Browncoats", people who were seriously looking into a fundraiser to buy the rights to the show from Fox until Josh Wheddon told them to stop. Maybe I'm being optimistic, but I believe we as a fandom will stick around for a few years after the show's inevitable end. Now, if Hasbro can't see that, then that's their loss, IMO. We've shown that we are passionate about this show, and are willing to spend money on merchandise. (Plushies, DVD's, Figurines, ect.)

This is a great show and everything, but how many bronies actually care about the toys? I have absolutely zero interest in merchandise for the show apart from maybe those welovefine t-shirts (I haven't actually bought any of them though), or if they release some bluray season packs. Am I in the minority?
I just watch the show, that's about it.

I just watch the show, that's about it. I have a few, but they're small toys and are simply on top of my computer tower. I know a bunch of bronies that have varying amounts of them for various reasons. I have a worrying amount of shirts, though. In my defense, 2 of the 10 I have I've won for free through my personal mettle in contests and 3 were a Christmas present (albeit one that I requested cash for).

I'm siding with this guy. I'm pretty sure a majority of us don't go out buying MLP stuff, and it's only going to be the DVD box set we're going to get. We're more interested in the show which advertises the merchandise than the actual merchandise itself.

I have the full set of Happy Meal ponies that was sold over here. Got 'em to show support for the franchise and decorate my PC.
I might get a show-accurate Celestia to accompany them.
There's a considerable amount of bronies who care, enough as to have a significant effect on Hasbro's profits from them. There are more ways to support, of course, so if you prefer WLF shirts or buying the DVDs, that works too. (Does Hasbro profit from WLF merch though? I'm not sure.)

The newer toys are actually surprisingly show accurate and the newer ones coming out this summer have a lot of toys in there specifically for the bronies. Vinyl Scratch, Luna.
Like why spend money making molds and design time on a show accurate (relative) toy for a pony that shows up during one episode that requires the watcher to pay very close attention for unless you are catering to the Bronies. They recognize us, and figured that if they make the toys good looking enough, the "target demographic" will pick up on it as well. Kids recognize quality. Don't underestimate a child's ability to make aesthetic judgments. Win-win for everyone.
Let's just hope that the shareholders see it the same way.

Yeah, that's exactly my point. What you just said was the example I was drawing from. The toys themselves are already selling just fine, but they see this as an opportunity to cater to us bronies while keeping them appropriate to their standard demographic.
I don't see why the shareholders would get their jimmies rustled about continued production of the show if this ended up increasing Hasbro's profits on the toy line. If they realize that if they keep producing the show, the brony fandom will only grow, hopefully they'll see the potential dollar signs and green light it.

I don't have anything to input on the current topic of discussion but I just wanna say I really enjoyed the latest episode + Show Spoiler +Celestia's facial expression in the newspaper had me laughing out loud for reals, that and Big Mac's tirade were my favourite parts
Is it just me or is it every time Rarity speaks it is pure gold? gogo Tabitha St Germain.
