Yea I get he's a Stark, but I mean come on, he's barely a secondary character. Both in the books and the show his role before the fall of Winterfell was completely irrelevant, God knows why Bran isn't the youngest Stark. And no scene, neither in the books nor in the show after Winterfell's fall. I'm not even sure if he has 10 spoken lines, I mean he's 88th with 10 minutes of screen time, spanning 5 seasons alongside other pivotal characters such as Locke, Irri and Orell. Good luck finding some show watchers who remember who these guys are. The fact Rickon also didn't have a line to say in the most recent episode is also quite telling that Rickon isn't going to have a bigger role going forward, and if he doesn't get a bigger role, he has to die otherwise he's the Stark heir and not Sansa. Rickon is going to used as a hostage to lure Jon south and when he arrives, he's going to be executed as he's served his purpose and he's a thread to the Bolton rule in the north. Killing him off makes sense both inside and outside the story. I'm sure GRRM/D&D had a plan for Rickon with the time skip, but without it... His purpose is very unclear to me. I think he dies for sure in the show though, we'll see about the books as maybe GRRM will flesh him out a bit and give him a story arch since there is not a conflicting Sansa that occupies the same position in the books, but in the show, his arch is conflicting with Sansa's so one of them has to die, and currently , Rickon isn't looking so good. | ||

The show has film editing and use momentum alot better than the books. The novels biggest complaint is something epic happens and then we cut to a SANSA or BRAN pov and it loses steam. | ||
