Towards the end of World War II the Nazi scientists made a significant breakthrough in anti-gravity. From a secret base built in the Antarctic, the first Nazi spaceships were launched in late ‘45 to found the military base Schwarze Sonne (Black Sun) on the dark side of the Moon. This base was to build a powerful invasion fleet and return to take over the Earth once the time was right.
Now it’s 2018, and it’s the time for the first American Moon landing since the 70′s. Meanwhile the Nazi invasion, that has been over 70 years in the making, is on its way, and the world is goose-stepping towards its doom. The three main characters of the story are Renate Richter (Julia Dietze), Klaus Adler (Götz Otto), and James Washington (Christopher Kirby).
OK so this is crazy film project by a bunch of weird Finnish independent filmmakers. I have been following the development of this movie for almost three years now. I actually went to the shooting in Frankfurt to volunteer as an extra, but they didn't need me at the time and the shoot had to be canceled prematurely because of harsh weather. Too bad, would have been awesome to be actually in this movie.
Anyway this is going to be so hilarious. The story is great, the background, the cast. A lot to the movie has been contributed by the community like just ideas or actual concept art or background material to the story. You can actually google most of the hilarious nazi technology they portrait and you will find absurd conspiracy theory websites about how the nazis invented flying saucers etc
or here the interviews with the lead actors (I already love both of them):
Check out their web site where you can find TONS of photos, videos, stories, blogs etc. Subscribe to their Facebook page and do all the other web2.0 support, tell your friends, and if you really like everything, buy war bonds!
awesome movie, they have some great youtube directors diaries and such that go behind the scenes a bit. they also were the ones who did the Star Wreck films if any of you saw those
The team behind Iron Sky (Energia Productions) also made a Star Trek/Babylon 5 parody called Star Wreck: In the Pirkining. The movie is available for free at the Star Wreck website and although it is in Finnish, there are subtitles in lots of different languages. I wholeheartedly recommend checking the movie out even if you don't know anything about the two sci/fi series in question, as the humor is pretty universal.
Here's a trailer to Energia's earlier full production film, Star Wreck: In the Pirkining.
To the people who think this is going to be the worst movie this year don't misunderstand; Iron Sky will be a tongue-in-cheek comedy film, but it is also the first real professional movie by Energia Productions. Essentially, it's aiming to look like a big budget film, despite being an independent production. Expect it to be much better than something like Scary Movie 2, but it won't be at the level of a high budget Hollywood film.
they're in cannes again this year, if you go to the energiaproductions youtube page they have the directors diaries, also if you donate you get access to some sneak peek stuff which is really cool. they had a working trailer that they wanted feedback on and released it to those that donated and from the feedback made the new one.
I can't believe how pumped I am for this movie. The idea is simple yet perfect. I also have to give big thumbs up for them for choosing Johanna Sinisalo (Finnish SF writer - Not Before Sundown, Baby Doll) to put people's ideas into a working script and for choosing Laibach to create the soundtrack. I mean, what other band would fit so well into the theme?
First time I've seen this, looks... entertaining. One thing I think about is how the Nazi's got all of their soldiers or whatever up on the moon. Not the actual technology, but the numbers of people they had to transport. Also, if it's 70 years later, wouldn't they need to raise children up there as well?
Funny when he tries to speak Finnish ^^ Also that girl reminds me of Brittany Murphy. Looks like a very cool movie! Though seems very low budget, hope they get the special effects off nicely

Look at teaser number 3, they got nazi schools on the moon, duh.
Theyre also giving the opportunity to invest in the film. Minimum investment is 1 000€ which isnt too bad. Obviously youll get your share of the profits (your equal to everyone else that invested) and some nice perks like tickets to the premiere and your name in the credits.
Since the budget is about 7 300 000€ Id say there is a great chance of nice profits and Im strongly considering investing.

Was about to say that. Over 7 million Euro isn't bad budget at all. Considering they've been making most of the movie just like Star Wreck (ie: with support of fans doing quite a lot of stuff for free). Of course, they've learned their lesson well and now they're going to have good script and actors (things that failed in SW, which had 0 budget but still managed decent special effects and what not).
25e for a t-shirt, a poster signed by the directors, 45min Q&A after the movie and a ticket to see the movie before the official release. Finnish guys i suggest you get em while you still can and i guess if you're hardcore you can travel to see it!

you didnt even see the movie yet and you probably have no clue what it is about and how it was made. So what gives you this great insight that this movie is like a Michael Bay movie? Please enlighten me.

"About half of the Iron Sky 7.5 million € production budget is covered from Finland, and the rest from Germany and Australia. The financing includes 1 million from the Iron Sky Fans, from which 40% is cleared and 60 % gapped by a Finnish bank Nordea. The rest is coming from more traditional sources such as Finnish Film Foundation, Hessen Film Invest, Eurimages, -- (etc)."
God been waiting so long, it is finally here! And best part is this movie makes fun of itself, brilliant. If there was ever a movie that deserved to be bought it is this, no recycled hollywood crap killing creativity, the plot is insane, totally unbelievable but it is also original and funny.
I remember seeing this trailer ages ago and getting so excited. I had assumed it was scrapped because I had heard nothing. This movie looks unbelievably epic.

The movie not being out yet, I'll reserve any judgement, but what's already exceptional about this movie is its financing. I sincerely hope that this crowd funding model will establish itself in the future.

Black satire is an unknown concept in Hollywood. They should remove the comedy tag so some people wouldnt think there are talking dogs and fart jokes in it.
What on earth is this?! I´ve never heard anything about that movie. Nazi -Spaceships from the dark side of the moon?! Who the hell has such sick ideas?

It's not that different from the latest transformers movie
I love the idea of movies taking the piss out of hollywood. Should be fun.
I'm glad this thread got bumped. What a plot... I've got to see this movie. Also the actress playing the president is a Palin lookalike. That makes me immensely happy too. lol
I always wonder how those movies get through the whole production phase. I mean, could you imagine the film makers in front of their producers telling the story and the producer goes like "Oh, Nazis from the moon, it will be a comedy right?" and everyone is like "Yeeeeaaaah, a comedy."

It's very different! Remember that the decepticons were space-communistnazi-robots while the autobots where the robots fighting for individual rights to property, protection from the state and free marked.
i love how noone realizes that this is actually a true story. they all will run to the cinemas and wtach it, enjoy it, laugh about it and in 2018 they will be like "shit just got real"
I bought a warbond way back with my brother, I cant wait for the movie. I also love the distribution of people who requested to have the movie shown in their city :D Its like ALL OF EUROPE, two cities at the east coast of the U.S., brazil and australia. Going to be awesome :D
This movie looks so campy it can't be anything but awesome. The Sarah Palin parody suddenly realizing the Space Nazis aren't friendly and going after them with a high heel with extreme prejudice made me rofl a good long time.
I somewhat hope that the Nazis win. I don't know how they would pull that off while making the end of the movie awesome, but it seems better then the genetically US wins ending.

Mr. Vuorensola, several conspiracy theorists deny the fact that the nazis fled to the moon in 1945. Is your documentary going to finally wipe out all doubts?
Timo Vuorensola: There are people who still believe the Americans landed on the moon in 1969. So it is possible that despite the hard evidence presented in our documentary, some people will remain sceptical.

Since it was first announced I was always going to be seeing this film. Every trailer I've seen has just increased this desire and I've tried to indoctrinate all who know me to watch to film - I love to see things like this from unknown filmakers from random countries get international exposure

Also, if this movie sucks I'm going to his house and spoiling BSG for him.
Guys, chek out what I've just found. There's another movie similar to Iron Sky (similarities end on sci-fi with Nazis) supposedly coming out this year:
Hardkor 44 is Baginski's film (most likely entirely CGI) about Warsaw Uprising during WWII.
On March 07 2012 05:01 Skilledblob wrote: when I think about this movie I think it's gonna have lots of typical polish nationalism. Though I have to admit the artworks look fantastic.
So far his works were really balanced, even when it comes to historical events. And he got nominated for Oscar once (for this). His collaborations with Dukaj (SF author) show that he knows and "feels" SF. Their previous colab was in form of a book (written by Dukaj and illustrated by Baginski) which was SF set in the realities of People's Republic of Poland, with communism and what not. There were some historical facts mixed in with fiction and they were highly praised by our Ministry of Education for finding new forms of delivering historical knowledge to younger generation which is usually bored to death with such subjects. I believe we can expect top notch stuff, which is just set in certain reality, not reenacting history.
This does seriously look like the WORST movie with the HIGHEST budget I have EVER seen xD I think it's gonna end up beating out Transformers 3: Dark of the Moon for that title (which is interesting, because... Dark of the Moon, Nazi's from the dark side of the moon... yeah, you get it.)

Can't wait!
It has a 7.5 million euro budget... Dark of the Moon has 195 million dollars. So I guess thats a compliment.
Just came back from the premiere. This film is absurdly funny. I don't think I have laughed that much in the theater, well, ever. I burst out laughing every few minutes, and so did the rest of the sold out theater. I am afraid not many people outside of Germany will get or appreciate everything, but I hope it's still enjoyable for everyone.
Anyway truly amazing experience. Also incredibly how good the CGI looks for a 7mio production.
Obviously I watched the original undubbed. I highly recommend it over any dubbed crap. Large parts of the dialogue is German anyway, but you would miss out on Palins accent and the black guy wouldn't work.
The movie is SO full of references to other movies / internet memes it's hilarious. There were moments where the entire audience burst out laughing just over recognizing a scene from another movie. Sometimes it was just a few people who got the subtler references. Again you would probably have to be German to appreciate some of it, but there is humor in the movie for everyone I think :-)
Just to totally derail the topic, god damn. That Julia Dietze is so hot. I keep rewatching the trailer just so I can hear her talk, especially in the bit toward the end.
Also, super impressive that the lead actor speaks at least three languages very well (he's German, speaks english and finnish in the interview).
I can't believe they actually got him drunk and made him sign the paper. He even admits to trying to get out of it. That can't possibly be the truth lmao.
Just saw this. Besides the obvious and some subtle parodies there isn't that much humor in the movie. I think they could have added more sitcom-like cheap humor in places, the setting would be perfect for it and there's a bunch of uninteresting scenes that could've been reworked. But then I guess it wouldn't be the unique campy movie it is now...I've never seen anything quite like Iron Sky. My favourite part had to be the crazy steampunk nazi machinery and the uniforms. The designers and CG wizards really nailed this movie.

The store on the site is hilarious too I just bought myself "a cheap test product"
So you don’t want to buy anything? How about buying a cheap test product! You’re only getting the satisfaction of knowing the store works and is trustworthy, but hey, that’s surely worth one euro. Right?

Better than the action movies done in Hollywood where the producers` failure at creating a story with philosophical message behind it. Every single hollywood CGI so far have all tried to be as serious as possible. Case in point, Battle:LA, the Transformer movies, X of Titans, and many more. Unlike the precious protocol, the European cinema production know who are they catering to. They are here to entertain and nothing more. We get too much serious action drama that hires actors who can`t act if their lives depends on it and couldn`t put enough effort into the action choreograph that makes everything anticlimactic.

Hmm, I like most sci fi movies because I actually like science, I like alien movies because I can actually imagine if they happened. This space Nazi thing is just silly to me.

Better than the action movies done in Hollywood where the producers` failure at creating a story with philosophical message behind it. Every single hollywood CGI so far have all tried to be as serious as possible. Case in point, Battle:LA, the Transformer movies, X of Titans, and many more. Watch the movie haha. She is sooooooo hot when she wears the more casual Nazi uniform :-)Julia Dietze <3

Have to agree with this. I thought the first 30 minutes or so were really meh with poor writing, acting and the some of the scenes didn't chain very well together. It got a lot better towards the end though and i really liked the music and the CGI.
Should be coming soon the States. Most likely only to the biggest 10 cities. Apparently, US movie theathers is incredibly hard to get into from the outside.

Are you serious? Like really serious? The only reason we made it into space is because of a Nazi Scientist. And the plot actually has them hiding on the dark side of the moon. How is this less realistic than any of the movies he listed. It seems pretty obvious you haven't done any research into how this movie was made or the plot.
Edit: Even as a Sci-Fi spoof, its plot seems more realistic than most Sci-Fi movies.
I saw this movie at a preview screening thing where I got a cool shirt and a poster and got to ask questions from the director. It was really awesome experience, and the movie was awesome too. The theatre was full of people. The line for the first screening went down two staircases and out the door. For some reason, there were more male than female viewers...

Me and my friends had great fun yesterday in the cinema. Not really a spoiler, everone who has seen the trailers will already know this.+ Show Spoiler +
...but man. This spaceship war in the end was just hilarious.
I finally managed to watch this movie and I have to say it was glorious. GLORIOUS.
It rips on everything holy, including Sarah Palin, Germans, Nazis, Nazigermans, the US, George Bush (never gets old), Japan, Star Trek, Russians and as special guests (even in the same scene) Finland and North Korea. And India. And England. And nukes. Despite not having jokes about any religion whatsoever this is a clear 10/10.
It would have been 15/10 if the plot wouldn't have one major flaw: + Show Spoiler +
The Nazis lose. Hard to make a sequel. =(
EDIT: HOT WOMEN!!!11 HOW COULD I NOT WRITE THOSE IN CAPS UP THERE. T_T
