Discussing the show and past episodes is fine. Do not put things that have happened in the TV series in spoilers. However, don't spoil things from the books that may happen in future episodes. Put book spoilers in spoiler tags with a CLEAR WARNING that it is from the book. |
I didn't knew this... but when u think of it, it keeps making more sense... =) + Show Spoiler [graphic novel spoilers] +mostly the fact that the governor cuts rick's right hand, just to make a point, in the comics... =D PLEAZE PEOPLE READZ THEMZ COMICS!!!!!

CDC Dr. - "Those doors are designed to whistand the impact from a rocket launcher... -.-"
Daryl - (moving in FTW with axe) "U'r head ain't!!!"

I'm seriously having a good chuckle at everyone who keeps referring to the latinos as gangsters. The whole point of that episode was "things aren't as they appear". The vatos were not gangsters, They were just latinos who banded together to help their grandparents/parents, etc. The head guy even admits he's a janitor, and his right hand man is a nurse.

The question is... who is the baby daddy? I really hope it's the husband because if it isn't this show is gonna turn into grey's anatomy =(

This show is really stupid, bad, and irritating like 70% of the time or more. Its too much bullshit about feelings and talking and other nonsense. The only character that is likeable, and I don't even remember his name, is Daryl (which I saw in this forum). I can't remember any of the other character's name because they don't mean anything to me.
The other problem is the stupidity. They have a camp in the wild and they don't keep lookouts so they get raped. Idiots. How can 2 cops and a country boy not think of keeping guards at all times. Why don't they have tin cans on strings tied between trees so they have early warnings (fallout 3, metro 2033 have em). I mean I'm sure they have a lot of extra tin cans right? But no, they are dumbasses so a bunch of people die. This doesn't have to affect the story, they could still be overwhelmed and not look like idiots. Zombies are fun because even with preparation you can get killed.
Again in the finale, 6 soldiers die in the hospital because none of them is watching the flank which is bullshit. No one is too stupid to not keep an eye on the flank. Even weekend warriors should know that. I almost turned off VLC when that happened.
How can the US military get overrun by these slow stupid zombies? Why is the power off? Special forces would be sent to protect power generators and personnel. Did anyone watch the newest Die Hard? One Bradley IFV could deal with a HUGE amount of zombies just by running them over let alone using ammo.

These stupid zombies can't run, the infection is only through bites and takes up to several hours to resurrect them, and they aren't stronger than a regular human. Its not like super strong zombies in other movies, or 28days later with 15sec infection and the zombies are PCP freaks that run and rage.
I gave this show a few episodes to prove itself but its garbage. I really hope someone makes a good zombie show sometime. Until then its House and Breaking Bad.

All zombie movies have a LOT of people to people interaction. Whoever is saying that they are focusing too much on characters is out of his mind well let's just say I disagree strongly. The well-established convention in zombie movies is short periods of turmoil followed by long periods of development.
As far as questioning the choices the people make, I know a lot of people who are not only too stupid to think of the basic things they have in this show; but who are loud enough and forceful enough to get an entire group to follow their actions. Don't overestimate humans in a time of crisis. The same goes for the morality- for example the cop almost killing the other cop. His most ugly, base and instinctive emotions come to the fore because he is in an ugly and instinctive world now- where all the barriers of modesty eventually break down in peoples' minds- and the effort everyone has to make is to keep them in their minds and prevent them spilling over.
I believe this is one of the top-quality shows that I have seen in a long time, considering it has zombies, and drama. What some people love to see is only zombie killing, and are whining about how much of the TV Series was only the development of each character. If you do not care for development of the characters, then don't even bother reading this post.
Again, people complaining as to why the conflict happened in the beginning should really start applying that logic everywhere. Starcraft? When did we get to talk to aliens? Wow this is so stupid omgomgomgomg
Guess what. Its fiction. Its not meant to make completely 100% scientifically proven logical sense. Its a TV show for goodness sake, and it is developing into a really good one (Are we not realizing of how many characters the television show is dumbing down? They already killed like 3-5 people in the attack, abandoned a Latino family, and now obliterated two more characters out of the screen)
I love this show.

Because zombies are such a common occurrence and in real life, everyone would know exactly how to deal with them.
Like I said earlier in the thread, mistakes drive plots. If the military just did stuff right, what would have actually happened? Nothing. The show would have been 1 episode long. Rick wakes up, everything is fine, he reads a news story about how some crazy shit with zombies happened, all is good.
It's hilarious you like breaking bad though, considering all the STUPID SHIT he did the entire first season that if it happened like that in real life, he would have been arrested a million times over.(for the record i like breaking bad).

What are you the PC police for the internet? Referring to them as gangsters since they appeared to be the whole time until the end, and still acted like them regardless if they were posers. And its likely organized crime and gangsters would survive because they own and know how to use guns and weapons. In fact I would say they ARE gangsters even if they were "secretly noble" because they threatened to kill to get what they want which is guns and resources and kidnapped the Asian kid.

Actually people would know what to do about zombies because its been explored so much. This isn't the introduction of zombies for the first time. Also you can easily apply disease control or foreign invasion measures that are in place already that would fit for zombies.
Its not that the military got overrun, its that the military got overrun by slow stupid zombies even though they had enough time to respond and set up sandbags and positions. Tanks and helicopters were there. M60's were set up. It wasn't a flash flood of zombies. If the zombies were like in 28 days later then yeh, the military could get overrun easy. But these are a joke and took out everything?
Also the show doesn't give enough information about the outbreak or what has happened which is super annoying.
Actually in the case of Breaking Bad I've only watched the first several episodes and stopped watching it because of how much I liked it. I haven't seen anything that didn't make sense so far and I'm a criminology student. I knew I'd get to a point where I'd be waiting weekly for it so I decided to drop it until a lot is out or the show is over/ending. It might be a bad show, but what I saw was awesome.

The biggest problem with the show is that the dialogue is really, really poorly written and the pacing of each episode is almost always completely off and most of the acting is dry and uninteresting.
+ Show Spoiler + I'm dreading when the show starts revolving more heavily around the father/son dynamic of the main character. At that point it'll start to get into The Road territory, and boy, Andrew Lincoln isn't even close to Viggo Mortensen's level (who was robbed of an Oscar nomination, but that's another discussion)
I've started skipping through episodes and I don't feel like I'm missing anything, though maybe that's because I've read the comics (they weren't that great either, but staying that close to zombie tropes seemed to work in a comic, probably because there aren't that many other heavily traditional zombie comics out there)
Edit: this might've been posted before, but if you want the classical zombie narrative ruined for yourself forever, read this

They already killed like 3-5 people in the attack, abandoned a Latino family, and now obliterated two more characters out of the screen) I love this show. Just because people make stupid decisions in the heat of the moment, especially as they are under zombie attack, doesn't somehow magic away all the problems with the writing and pacing.
Not to mention it doesn't even explain all the other incredible shit decisions they've made that had nothing to do with the heat of the moment. For example, getting attacked in camp. Didn't they just stumble onto a walker, like, yesterday and were talking about how the camp needed more security? So where the hell was the security? They didn't have a warning system, they weren't armed, they didn't so much as have even a single lookout. And it's very easy to write something like this in before you try to defend it - have one guy be the lookout, he gets distracted or something and is killed before he gets a chance to alert the others. Boom. Now the problem becomes the camp having security, it just wasn't good enough. Makes perfect sense. The camp having zero security? Makes zero sense.
But gripes about zombie survival tactics aside, the writing and pacing of the show is incredibly off. For example, the whole bit about Andrea and infected, dead sister. Yeah, we get it, she's mourning, character development, blah blah blah. Does it really take 30 minutes to explain this? We could have wrapped that up in less than 5. The group's talking about how to deal with her, Darryl suggests shooting her, Rick goes up to try to talk, she waves a gun, he backs off, she says goodbye, dead sister becomes a zombie, gets shot in the head. Boom. That sequence did not need to be 30 minutes long and take up half the episode. Same with Jim and the whole moral quandary of what to do with an infected but still living party member. Remember the first episode where Duane (black guy) tries to mercy kill his zombie wife? That sequence did not take 30 minutes. He fired off a shot, attracted zombies, yelled for his son to stay downstairs, aimed at his wife, was unable to fire. Not 30 minutes long, explained everything we needed to know about him and his wife with zero dialogue.
I like the show and think it's good too, but you're kidding yourself if you think it hasn't gone straight downhill after the first episode. Nearly every episode has had huge facepalm moments, and "It's fiction, it's not supposed to make sense" does not excuse bad writing. I could go on and on, but suffice it to say there are major issues with the series that have nothing to do with zombie survival tactics.

They did have those tin cans on strings, perhaps you missed? There were theory that the red neck cut the strings and bought the zombies to the camp.
And don't make it sounded so simple to have lookouts all the time, especially we are sitting right here comfortably at home. Try stare into nothing for so many hours everyday, it will wear you out physically and mentally, and someone will bound to fucked it up by falling asleep or simply ditched the post, especially in a group with no discipline training.
Besides they aren't allow lights or born fire, making it extremely hard to spot at night. They must've though its safe since everyone is sitting in a circle around the little fire, nothing will get behind them unnoticed.
Again in the finale, 6 soldiers die in the hospital because none of them is watching the flank which is bullshit. No one is too stupid to not keep an eye on the flank. Even weekend warriors should know that. I almost turned off VLC when that happened.
Didn't you see the door was closed behind them? A zombie somehow opened and caught a soldier by surprise. It's like expecting a soldier to look at a wall, do you know how stupid that will look? Simply put, they were caught off guard, as their attention was excuting those people.
How can the US military get overrun by these slow stupid zombies? Why is the power off? Special forces would be sent to protect power generators and personnel. Did anyone watch the newest Die Hard? It is clearly that they did not get overrun in the first day. The ability for an army to function are based on the integrity of the army structure. Maybe they have command and logstic problem, wouldn't be surprised as they must be spreading thin to cover the whole country.
Soldiers are human too, they have emotions, they worry about their family. The news of outbreak happened all across the country, some will simply abandon their unit to reunite with their family, especially when they lost contact. Can you seriously imagine soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan will continue to do well when their family, and country is getting fucked in the ass?
Soldiers not only need ammunition and food, they also need sleep. Try to have a perfect cordon when your forces already spread thin, you simply do not have enough man power for day and night shift. These bastards comes out day and night, sleep deprivation will have tolls on the soldiers.
Army is an organization, it need all its organ to function well. When it has broken down to smaller pieces, it becomes like guerilla. And we all know guerilla aren't specialised in holding grounds.
I gave this show a few episodes to prove itself but its garbage. I really hope someone makes a good zombie show sometime. Until then its House and Breaking Bad.
It's just sad that suddenly everyone becoming a survival expert in zombie apocalypse. Keep in mind that in the story world, they have never heard or imagined the thing such as zombie, hence they aren't called zombies.

Why is it that the first thing they do is get shitfaced......
and why does the CDC have so much wine?
and the showering scene... gosh.......
took all the drama out of the show.
Where did they get children's pajamas? Not the first thing on my priority list when packing for the zombie apocalypse.

They feel safe and haven't had any fun in a while The CDC is run by adults Meant to show everyones current attitude and how little amenities improve morale. They had them at the camp? That's pretty obvious.

Why is it exactly that a CDC facility has so much wine and food (and not nonperishables, actual food like eggs and stuff) and yet, not enough fuel to run their generators for a long time in the case of outbreak?
Actually, scratch that. Not just this CDC facility, but apparently all the facilities everywhere. It's only been like, what, a couple of weeks since the epidemic? I find it hard to believe the disease centers of the entire world were so unprepared that not one of them had enough backup power to keep a facility up and running for longer than that.

They say the eggs are powdered when he's making them.
And how is tomato sauce(probably canned), dried pasta, and wine perishable?
And how much diesel do you think it requires to run a giant building like that for a month? a lot.
Not to mention jenner says the only purpose for the generators is like a terrorist attack where the energy grid is attacked(something that should be back up and running in way less time than a month). They aren't meant to be doom bunkers.

it said they had powdered eggs...
anyways it's been a slight disappointment, whereas dexter has been phenomenal once again.
