Discussing the show and past episodes is fine. Do not put things that have happened in the TV series in spoilers. However, don't spoil things from the books that may happen in future episodes. Put book spoilers in spoiler tags with a CLEAR WARNING that it is from the book. |

The show was made intentionally as a human drama with zombies in it. It was never supposed to be about fighting zombies or what have you.

Because they don't want zombie blood to go into their eyes, nose, mouth? I don't know if you know this, but the chick that died didn't turn into a zombie. Recall back from the other episode where the father clearly said that his wife suffered a fever before she died and then came back as a zombie. From what we can tell, the chick that got bit bled out before she even got infected and won't come back as a zombie. But either way, just wait until they explain how the virus works. You keep going on and on acting like you know how the virus works and you don't.

Why do you assume that every person in the story takes the same precautions and has the same presence of mind? No one knows exactly how easy it is for the virus to spread, they only know the symptoms. They wore the shields over their faces because they had the time and resources to take the precautions they felt were necessary to keep safe.

the shows story is how man survives in an apocalyptic situation. that was stated from the start. the military was thought to be in atlanta. lollololololol they went to atlanta already and it's overrun with zombies. drinking water and eating is also pretty much a necessity for human beings, not sure if you realize that. so camping by a source of both is pretty mcuh required for such a large group. and from the start they stated this wasn't going to be a resident evil television show with constant zombie action. like ever yshow on AMC, it's story driven.
you just wanted a zombie grinding show. that's fine, but don't say this show is bad because it's not what you wanted. especially since it's FIVE EPISODES INTO THE ENTIRE SERIES

I like the complaining. It means more people are watching.
Zombie apocalypse occurs. Good and bad people survive. The main group happens to meet good people. The good people mentioned meeting other bad people. Stop assuming the main group is always wholly good. You have no idea what's waiting in store. Are they going to meet bad people? Yes. Will they meet good people? Yes. It's been four episodes, how far do you think they would get.
You become a zombie when you die. Die of natural causes, and turn into a zombie. Zombie bites are poisonous and kill you. Then you come back as a zombie. Or they eat you out. The only thing that stops a zombie is destroying the brain. If you're dead from a gunshot wound to the head, you won't turn into a zombie. If you die from blood loss unrelated to your nervous system, you'll turn into one. It's showed in the comics, but my memory is hazy.
The hospital was unnecessary, but it sets up a really central theme. You can't trust anyone in a zombie apocalypse. It's a game of survival. Truth is weakness.
Watch the series for human changes and how humans cope with these chances. Andrea changes. For the better or worse is for you to decide.
If you had a kid or younger sibling you wanted to protect would you try to constantly remind him of the zombie apocalypse day in and day out? Especially if it hasn't even been a month since it started (not sure)?

a butcher even uses a shield for his face, not necessarily because the meat he's working with has a zombie virus but because he doesn't want blood all over his face
also, I have no idea what show you're watching because they never stopped caring about not coming into direct contact with it and they never dived in their guts either

cant argue with people whose concerns are only about the hot chicks getting killed (thats like a critic-point that the fat clerk and chris from family guy would argue about...)
yeah okay the blood isnt the reason for the turning but the characters dont know that, in fact it would make sense in a zombie apocalypse situation like this to naturally assume you get infected by bite and other contact like in the zombie movies but whatever. im still pretty sure they protected themselves in instances because they didnt want to get infected and in other scenes they didnt because some monkey forgot to put it in the script. and that wasnt even my main concern, just one of many points i made... i wouldnt complain if i wouldnt like the show, dont you get that? i like this series for the normal reasons (zombies are awesome) but yeah drama is fine, character-driven plot is fine too, but they fill it with corny comicesque lines, very bad acting (by mostly the women) and inconvenience which makes all the tension go poof and the time consuming ohmagawdhowcouldthishappen moments overly boring.

I liked this episode a lot more, but they seriously need an advisor to crosscheck the episode writing.
With just a few minor adjustments #4 could've been really good, although the final assault was really dumb.
Especially because they let the hot girl die..not cool. I mean she was standing in the elevated door of the trailer, she should've easily been able to kick that zombie in the chest and make it fall over.. They should've heard the 'wife beater' scream the camp can't be that big. And they've been there for weeks. There should've been all kinds of traps, pits or even just branches on the ground to make some noise and why didn't the strings with cans work? They could've even routed those strings back into the camp if one of them breaks something falls down and they know it..
I still can't get over the hot chick..it's called fan service..killing her is like a kick into the jewels.
And the fact that a huge amount of zombies 'spawns' directly inside the camp and kills a few characters. That's such a bad writing and I don't care if a later episode explains why..it's still bad writing, because it should happend before the attack. I really liked #4 but they ruined it with another stupid magic writing assault.

the zombies walked to the camp? i really don't know how you're saying they just spawned. one of the guys even says in the last episode "they must be running out of food in the city" hence wandering away from it.
secondly, fuck the hot girl. hot girls are useless in a zombie apocalypse unless you want to die being distracted by boobs. she wasn't even that hot either, so fuck her.

.. did you expect an entire civilization to be erased from zombies that walk like old men and bit you? It's not like it isn't obvious what a zombie is. You don't go up and hug them. And if you see someone getting their guts torn out of them, you don't just watch. And people are complaining about how fake everything else is.
Have you met a zombie before after coming out of the washroom? Yeah, didn't think so. She responded in her way. Sure some people would kung-fu their way out of the situation. That didn't happen. Accept it and move on. The story is teaching you the beautiful people aren't safe. The rude and aggressive ones aren't safe either. People die, whether you want them to or not. It's a zombie apocalypse.

It made more sense for the sister to die, than her. Despite how "hot, and young" she is there's more background to the other sister. I'm glad it was that way instead of the series having a fan service. I like my TV shows to have some "balls"
|
I liked this episode a lot and it was probably the best post-episode 1, but a number of concerns:
1. The whole bit with Merle hacking off his hand. I like that they at least addressed the lack of blood and tried to address the whole bit of why he cut off his hand and not the threaded rod, but come on, it would've been way easier for him to hack through the thin rod than his own wrist, which is full of bones and tough tendons. And then he just escapes through another entrance that was apparently left wide open? What? Why didn't the zombies come in through that door also?
2. The incredibly lax security at the camp. I understand the whole group was settling down and having a good time and whatnot, but it makes no sense at all to have absolutely zero security, especially since last episode they made such a big deal of the walkers having found the camp and the need for security. Now I don't mean an entire fortified perimeter with traps and trenches and whatnot, but what about just one dude on top of the trailer with a gun keeping a lookout? Or some kind of detection or early warning system, it makes absolutely zero sense to build a camp in a completely arbitrary flat-land location and have no security whatsoever. They could've easily had one dude be a lookout, then show him getting swarmed and killed before he gets a chance to shout out a warning or something, but instead the zombies apparently infiltrate the camp and take out several people before the survivors even realize they're under attack, which is just pure stupidity. They're zombies, not ninjas.
3. The bit at the end where Jim talks about his dream. Okay, that was just stupid, and it ruined the whole impact of his entire breakdown and imprisonment. Previously he was an example of how a normal dude can fall apart in the stress of an actual zombie apocalypse, now he's apparently a seer who predicted the camp was going to be attacked in his dreams? Not only did that ruin the poignancy of the entire earlier half of the episode involving him, but it ruined the poignancy of that last scene as well which was supposed to illustrate how cheap life is in a zombie-ridden world as well as the impact of killing off a well-established character.
These complaints aside though, really liked the episode, and finally some good old-fashioned zombie killing. Also, the people complaining that the show has no direction or that things aren't happening in the episodes or whatever make no sense. Lost had a pretty clear end goal: they want to get off the island. What exactly is the destination in the story arc of the Walking Dead? Here's a hint: there is none. It's just a show about how people would live in a real zombie apocalypse, and every episode thus far has done that. You can complain about the pacing relative to the comics, but complaining just about the pacing makes no sense. If this is "filler", what exactly does a non-filler episode consist of?
Really liking Darryl too, turning out to be a way better character than his brother.

Well, he DID seem a little insane after that.He just had to cut his hand off and cauterize his stump w/o any anesthetic.. I'd just really hate if that pack of zombies just happened to randomly wander into the camp without them noticing anything, when they managed to survive like a month without any problems.
The lack of anesthetic is irrelevant. It's not as if anesthetic has been around for centuries. People have managed without it. The insane thing would be to aimlessly wander around with a stump profusely bleeding looking for some anesthetic. He's obviously not in a proper state of mind but I still don't think he'd sacrifice his brother just for some revenge.
Also, the zombies wandering in the camp isn't necessarily random. Glenn had the horn on for many miles and had it on all the way back to the camp. I wouldn't be surprised if the zombies were lured because of this. Also, if food was getting scarce in the city, it is only logical for them to move out and look for food in other places. The mountain is filled with lots of animals. It's possible some pack of zombies saw a deer or two and went after it. All it takes is a small stimulation to lure the zombies onto a path leading to the campsite.

So imagine they killed of the "old" sister - showing that even more developed chars arent safe. When they encounter the zombified version of her they kill her. Gramps / Rick discover the chain and are able to tell the surviving sister what they know. Suddenly the whole build backstory is used to advance another character. If it made "more sense for the sister to die" I honestly dont see your point that the TV show had "balls". It just followed the "what's expected" route - nothing ballsy there
My main gripe with the story is: Some people say we shouldnt treat it as a simple zombie slaughter. I agree (for that I watch Resident Evil with Milla Jovovich^^). But when it's not "mindless slaugter" I personally do not want to encounter major logic / plot holes.
I think it's a bit far stretched that a zombie mass was able to get through the alarm system without it going off. A single zombie like the one from episode 1 - crawling on the floor - sure. Maybe even suprising someone in the sleep. But so many zombies just walking around? No thx (yes Merle _may_ have cut the wires (in the dark... without making a noise after driving the van up there with no one noticing) ignoring that his brother is probable inside the camp, because the brother went hunting with only light equipment and surely wouldnt keep away for a long time.
But some people need to think a bit more. About the "How can they just walk home?" Well - how did they get home after their "first" (shown) visit? With two stolen cars. Then how did they got to the city in the first place? Either they had their own vehicle (but didnt use it to escape? how stupid is that?) or they walked? Therefore "walking" distance is ok in my books. If they _need_ to drive - how did they get there in the first place and why dont they use the same way of transportation to escape? (Or was that mentioned and I just forgot)?
