On a serious note, they dropped out to get serious as a band. So, you can't really say that they failed, as much as re-prioritized. Plus, they had already been there for quite a while, so they got enough education, I assume.

I don't like growl that much, although Mike from Opeth does it perfectly and his natural voice is simply beautiful. Tool is like one of a kind, I listen to them since 12 years or so and never heard anything like them, not even close. Best band for me, so unique and Lateralus is best album ever created in music history :-) Anything Tool alike is welcome! I love good instrumentals - complex compositional structures and much diversity.

One band I would recommend you, which happens to be a polish one, is Acid Drinkers, theyre one of the best imo ![]() This song is my fav from them, heard it over a hundred times probably! Vocals are not really growl, though the guitarist does some growly stuff but when he does it it really sounds brutal

And I've always enjoyed this accompanying video: I'm also going to throw some Arcturus out there (avant-garde/experimentalish):

Periphery did release an album with vocals and the same one as an instrumental, and some people don't really like the vocals so give them both a shot if you like. Another good progressive metal (well sort of progressive metalcore) band is Between the Buried and me, but they do have some growling so be warned. If anything go for Colors first, I think that is so far their best outing. On an unrelated note, August Burns Red at Sonshine is the most fun I have ever had at a show:

Cheesy as hell though. Didn't know Labrie cut his hair... looks alright. On April 23 2011 11:44 phanto wrote: Kinetic, nice. Opening song to one of the best albums of all time - The Sham Mirrors. Arcturus is the best Norwegian band out there followed by Lumsk, imo. Indeed, it does a good job of taking the listener to a different dimension.
