Pretty sad for VG after their match against Secret. It kinda seems like they were dicking around, picking Sniper as their only core, Enigma with no real wombo-combo and lack of strategic focus. Poor Sniper got chased all around the map and initiated upon from 1000+ range for half the match
VG comp couldn't push or rosh for their life. I mean when they got a full team wipe, they could only convert it into a tier 1... I wonder how a Bristleback would have fared.

On the other hand, it seems Chen is an instaban when you're playing against secret. I find it kinda ironic as the hero disappeard from the meta prior to this tournament.

I wonder who will figure out secret and have the skill to take them head on in a Bo3. It's cool for the tournament story to have a team acting as the big bad wolf.

He might have a good day. At least he played a good Clock against IG, especially in the laning phase.

They won't choke. VG are the chokers.

In theory, yes. In practice, it greatly favors Secret. VG has shown themselves to be chokers when they're challenged to the core of their being by opponents of equal/greater caliber.

Alright... and you are basing it off a bad day... VG is a championship team (RTZ said it himself).

If anything Secret has never taken a series off VG yet. The semi finals will be interesting.

The old Secret, yea.

The old Secret won't have gone 15-0 in DAC.

It still stands that new Secret has never played a series with VG.

I don't understand the need to be so cynical. Yes, there is a world where Secret chokes in a Bo3, VG wins, and the world goes back to the way it was. I fully agree that such a scenario exists. After all, LGD did go 14-0 in TI 2 and then lose to Na'Vi. But sit down and analyze this for a moment. Just a moment.

Secret is made up of five of the best Dota players the world has ever seen, each known for their ability to literally dictate games when they are having a great time. Its strategies are developed by three of the best minds the Dota world has ever produced - Puppey, Kuroky, and S4. It is captained by two of the best shotcallers in all of Dota - Puppey and S4. It is literally the Western Dream Team with only a small bit of wiggle room for best-in-slot. For example, I'd accept that Dendi instead of Arteezy is an acceptable exchange, even though Arteezy is currently > Dendi. I'd accept that Icex3/Universe instead of Zai is okay. I'd accept PPD instead of Puppey/Kky, even though I believe the latter have greater experience. And I'd accept that Loda instead of Arteezy is not too bad.

But practically speaking? There's no change that I'd make. Provided these players are able to work together - and they obviously are, else they won't have gone 15-0 in DAC - they are the best Dream Team that's ever been created. Forget your Newbee and your VG and your DK. Those teams are great, don't get me wrong, but they don't have the same amount of raw intelligence that Secret presently holds. There are a lot of players at the level of Puppey, Kuroky, Zai, even Arteezy and S4. But there aren't a lot of captains who've led teams to TI championships the way Puppey and S4 have done. No other team in the game has ever gathered together such an amount of expert experience and raw talent.

Personally, I feel a bit sorry for the Western teams. Secret has concentrated such a great amount of Western captain talent in one team that other teams are starved of proper leadership. Is there an equal to Secret in the West? I don't think so. Not presently. Is there in the East? We're going to find out, but I also don't think so. They have the ability to create such a team - eg put Icex3, Xiao8, Burning, Fy, and Lanm in the same team, and have Zhou coach the team - but that'd do the same to China what the formation of Secret has done to the West - it'd starve other teams of leadership & intelligence.

A lot of us were afraid for Secret only because we thought that the team was going to have poor chemistry, personalities are going to clash, etc. But in their honeymoon period, when unity and passion is high, that hasn't occurred. In which case, these five guys being dedicated to a single goal, a single purpose... There's no way to say they're not the favorites vs. any other team in the world.

It would be hilarious if BG was the one who ultimately figured them out. I mean it Lamn, this guy is one of if not the best drafter in history. His only limitation was honestly Mushi's hero pools back in DK. Nevertheless, Mushi is still an essential asset to DK's success.

doesn't xiao8 draft for BG?

i think Mushi was probably one of the most disappointing members of DK

@beifru, Secret is guaranteed 2-0 in a first series against C9/LGD.

I wouldn't say anything is guaranteed.

Look at TI5. People said the winner was gonna come from the EG vs DK semis. Then both got shat on by VG and Newbee. The meta changes in the playoffs and nothing is guaranteed.

Eh, nobody was hyping DK for the playoffs 'cause they failed in groups.

It's not about meta, it's about preparation. I am not telling you Secret is top2 secured, don't I?

DK hardly failed in groups

Your memory is short. They were fighting hard against teams they should've rolled in 20 minutes, experementing with drafts and other things that indicated they won't get far against better prepared opponents which is exactly what happened.

i think your memory is much shorter and frankly highly inaccurate

-Lost to Fnatic, Liquid, iG,
-Struggled against Empire, Arrow, NaviUs

edited for a greater justice.
I think their strategy is to dumpster bad Western teams (c) uriel

Considering the facts they had 4 drafters, I assume they draft together one way or another.
