Although I agreed they are playing like trash now like some Tier2-3 team, I suspect they are slacking VERY VERY HARD now.( Too much MMOs and RPG I guess)

Everyone has to earn their spot each year. If you stop caring or w/e after the year you won, I would hope you didn't get an invite for novelty's sake. Just my 2 cents. To add to that, I would even go as far to say as it's unhealthy for the scene to allow an invite because of it. Say ti5 or ti6 has a 25 million prize pool. Pretty soon the possibility of teams just taking the money and running becomes very real, and talent just starts disappearing. Newbee is an amazingly talented team, absolutley capable of playing much better than they are even with some moderate effort IMO. If they just loose the will to practice because of money or w/e the reason is, then I don't think that should be rewarded or encouraged.

That's what makes it difficult to understand. Players who've played Dota for ages don't just get this bad this fast. Newbee wasn't practicing but they were attending tournaments and doing pretty well in them. Listening to Arteezy's life blog, EG also didn't practice for a while after TI 4 - according to them of course - but 1-2 weeks of tryhard and all of the players were back in form. I have a feeling Newbee has deeper issues than just 'we were playing RPGs.'

feels like all the retirement posturing was just to escape contracts, which i can sympathize with (honestly these contracts dont seem to line up well at all with when players feel like they want to reshuffle / play on different teams, and they should. whats even the point of these aside from preventing too-frequent poaching?)

To say that Newbee won TI4 was a one-time fluke is one thing. To say Newbee is sucking now is another. Also, Newbee lost both Xiao8 and Mikasa who were the brains behind the team. Its not a fair comparison.

You got me! if you think that a teams which biggest achievment with its current roster is a shared 5th place at a starladder with no t1 teams in it is worthy of an ti5 invite, then you are clearly delusional.

"From a monetary standpoint, there's absolutely no reason to train hard for the entire year if you can get an entire year's worth of training in just 2 months. To get as much as a million USD as an individual every single year(and I bet this year it's going to be even higher), I wouldn't care less what my haters say. I will slack as much as I want, and I wouldn't give a shit about anything except TI. Obviously, I need to discuss that with my team, but if my team's okay with it(as is evident with their attitudes), then I am going to holiday till TI. If I fuck up as a result, shame on me then. I still wouldn't trade it for valuable time that I have to spend in order to work, because money is 'easy' now."

well i mean the public perception was more about the endearment of the players, but the vibe was there actually i doubt the above post actually accurately depicts their logic, think the newbee roster might just be burnt out on dota and feel like playing other shit, but dota is their "career" idk. im rambling

Good luck getting 5 millions every TI just by starting to practice a couple of months before it.
