Whether Newbee is going to shape up after CNY, it still doesn't explain why they're doing this terribly at DAC. Alliance after TI 3 made it into consecutive tournament finals. iG after TI 3 won the biggest Chinese tournament. Even Newbee won WCA 2 months after TI 4. They were a favorite for this tournament because despite slacking off, they still ended up winning a larger % of the tournaments in China than every other team.
Yet this tournament, they're looking to be a literally bottom of the barrel team, losing to MVP, the other bottom 2 team, and every other team that's decided that whacking the TI 4 champs is fun and great for morale.

And I think this factor gets bigger and bigger with the rising prize pool. Seems to me like a trend. Post TI1 Na'Vi won literally everything. They slumped hardcore, they sometimes even played with standins, but still totally walked over everybody. i know this is said over and over again but the competition back then wasn't quite as cuttthroat as it is now Noone is talking about competition. Navi certainly didn't show the lack of motivation from winning a lot of money, even after 3 finals in TIs. they might have, it's just that it didn't show in tournaments since their competition was just worse and they just purely outskilled them to begin with perhaps. i mean that seems to be what happened with newbee post-TI4 until now, they won 4 tourneys without practicing and it's only now that it's biting them hard

You got me! if you think that a teams which biggest achievment with its current roster is a shared 5th place at a starladder with no t1 teams in it is worthy of an ti5 invite, then you are clearly delusional. Yeah, because there are so many Western teams with consistently better results this season. Like VPP, they have so many big wins and do so well in series against top teams all the time, right?
empire and vpp do consistently better than navi in tournaments where all participate. both topped them in starladder and vpp in the summit and the xms captains draft (if you want to count that). in all other tournaments navi didnt even participated, but empire and vpp both had great showings in dreamleague and d2l. if you want to be precise, navi did not even qualifier regularly for any lans since esl new york as they finished the starladder qualifier as 7th.

That doesn't change the fact that Na`Vi crushed everyone after TI1, there were no international tournaments after TI1 either.

Newbee is in another tier below it. If they had a similar drop in performance they would not be winning everything.

and in TI4 when everyone was saying how much better was Alliance, Empire, Fnatic and even Mouse than NaVi, yet only 1 of them got into the main stage

funn1k's talent is still mostly MIA; i don't consider being able to execute axe from the safelane with a clearly superior draft too convincing and aside from that he's had like 1 solid clinkz game
