What form of an advantage would you give the winner's bracket finalist? I'm not saying it's not warranted, but I find it hard to find a good balance of reward for winners bracket finals vs insurmountable advantage for someone who's already made it to the winner's bracket final... Genuinely curious because Na'Vi lost last year when they were in [A]'s place, and I think the responses were a bit stronger because iG won. However, I kinda like the system right now: the winner's bracket finalist get extra time to rest and study their opponents.. Personally, I feel like the format of ti is pretty solid. I was never a fan of upper bracket winner getting a 1:0 against lower bracket winner. Upper bracket already has an upper hand because they have played less game and are given more time in between matches to prepare whereas lower bracket teams play more games and have to play more often. I think that's a pretty good advantage and also creates a lot of hype for the grand finals. There's no guarantee that going in cold for the grand finals means you have an advantage, there's many examples in regular sports where this haven't been the case.
That said I don't have a huge problem with the way it was as long as the final have at least a bo5 to give the better team the best chance to win, eliminating the element of luck as much as possible within reason. I would have had a much bigger problem with it if it were a bo3 or bo1.

Was there a number mentioned for the amount of spectators? I saw the 275K on the twitch stream, dunno about the rest.

There's a reddit thread which states the total number to be over 1 million, but they left out some streams.

Anyway, amazing Grand Finals and an amazing end to the tournament. Unfortunately I fell asleep during g5 after 12-12, but I woke up to the 'ceremony'. After watching the VOD, all I have to say is:
Let us celebrate the birth of the S-God, a new addition into the wide Dota pantheon. Your Million Dollar Dream Coil shall be remembered for all time o7.
Also all the disappointed/angry Na'Vi fans curse rat dota while seemingly forgetting that without g1, g5 wouldn't even be necessary.
I hope that next year the schedule will be slightly kinder for European wievers. Even 2h would help! Anyways, TI3 has been an absolute blast and, what is really surprising, a massive improvement from the previous Internationals (and I watched both of them, TI1 grand finals being the first Dota2 series I've seen!).
I would like to profoundly thank all brave LR soldiers, tirelessly bringing us the LR, polls and updating OP's. SALUTE!
So GREEEEEETINGS AND SALUTATIONS(TM), SEE YOU IN 355 DAYS!

Really, he is situational for his unique strengths, not for his general power as a hero.
It's easy to say that he was situational but if you don't explain why he is more situational than the other heroes I'll take this opinion with a grain of salt. This guy was being put into a whole bunch of comps.

What's the next Dota tournament to watch?
|
As someone who never watched or played Dota2 before this event, I just wanted to say this was probably the best final I have ever seen. Alliance played all their games incredibly solid up until the Grand Final (even the 1 game they lost) and Na'Vi showed a great number of different styles/heroes which they played well. I was wondering why Alliance would suddenly pick all these different heroes instead of the solid ones they played with before but it seemed like Na'Vi picking/banning pretty much shut that down after game 1 (also, even to me game 2 picks seemed a bit silly from Alliance). And that final game... I was literally sitting here with my mouth wide open that Alliance would have the mental fortitude to capitalize SO hard on that single mistake, having their Puck preventing TP's while taking top and bottom rax AND defending their own base, that they won Roshan while at a massive disadvantage, but also how XBOCT got 3/2 out of a 1v4 and how well Na'Vi played to get their advantage.
What I'll remember the most is the finals, that long drawn-out record-breaking 99 minute game and that Liquid-Bear stomp which just seemed silly, but most of all I've found a love for this game. Thanks to everyone who made it possible at the event and also here at Team Liquid for providing probably the best coverage/content a new person like me could ask for. Looking forward to next year!

There is always a break of 1 month after the TI for rest and reshufling of the teams.
Dont expect any major tournaments for a while

Timeslot was terrible, had to force myself to stay awake, but by game 5 I couldn't and had to go to bed.
Next time they need to make sure the time slot is better and sooner for Europeans.

And it's exactly that what we wish them to change - even a small adjustment (end the final days were plain AWFUL in that regard) would help.

That was not really a proper Ti, it more of a pilot just to showcase the game at the convention.
For valve I think they want TI to become something like a blizzcon,or quakecon. Plus more importantly, it is the only large event for dota in the U.S, if you remove the invitational, it would remove a certain amount of visibility for dota in the U.S, I doubt if it will ever move out of Seattle again.

Fantastic grand finals right up to Na'Vi losing their cool with no Dendi TP and Xboct chasing instead of it, people going on about the dreamcoil but it changed little, Puppey would've been raped anyways.
Congrats to Alliance, didn't think Na'Vi would actually look like they should've won the grand finals, was expectin 3-0 or 3-1, but some ace drafting and big plays.

Unless demand grows to a level that they require a bigger venue
