Puck's ability to clear waves quickly is categorically better than QoPs or DKs, and is better than Storm's, TA's, or Ember's throughout the entirety of laning, when they don't have major items yet. Of the common mid heroes (ignoring Lesh cuz he's never not banned), only Lina and SF are better at clearing waves quickly than he is, and many of the others are significantly worse. That's not really in any way why he isn't picked, nor is his ability to lane.

However, it can still avoid the moving AoE via invulnerability at the far edge of the cone, and the mirror image's random horizontal displacement means you can avoid it near the side edges if you're lucky. (E)Oops, the wave is actually 900 units thick, but will be smaller when you start the burrow strike, and is is effectively even thinner thanks to the Doppler effect. I think it's at most 574 thick when the Burrow Strike starts, and the trailing edge moves 238 units, so the burrow strike needs to travel 336 units directly into the wave to avoid it - barely within the capability of a level 1 burrow strike. If it's thicker than 574, it's also late enough in the wave that the burrow strike will outlast it. (E2)...except Sand King himself is more than 14 units thick. So there's a small spot in the AoE where it can't be dodged by level 1 burrow strike. Of course, you can dodge the Sonic Wave with Burrow Strike more easily by just using it to leave the AoE.

These both worked in DotA 1 because damage prevention skills work differently.
