Now let's hope they do it for game 3.

Not sure if i should be happy that navi won or sad because im now gonna see mid ES in my games...

No shame losing to a top team.
|
Good showing against VP, not so good against OG but those guys leveled up quite a bit compared to last patch. No shame at all.
Hope they keep improving. I find it commending that they can make "old" strats work on the new patch.
In the neat future I would like to see Sonneiko's balanced bird.

Ill take it, great show from navi like i said, OG is a tall order and top3 team, cant expect navi to beat them right away
At least they keep training and getting better, they seem to find a working team and they are doing it all
Cant believe we are actually playing finals on a regular basis now

Yeah it was so amazing seeing Dendi's mid ownage in late stages of a large tourney again And the boys in the booth live once more A+!

Actually Dendi has always been a great mid and dominated most games during the laning stage. Though his issue was that he got lost mid-late game not knowing what to do with his laning advantage, which could be partly contributed by past captains/shot callers.
As long as Navi manages to get a decent teamwork and people knowing what to do in certain situations, you will see Dendi shine like that fuckwit who left his high beam on front of me this morning as I drove to work -_- (FUCK YOU WHITE COROLLA!)
Anyway, the result is not a surprise as OG is definitely on another level at the moment. Looking forwards to see the boys do well in June, 2 more weeks guys

Actually i think it was because he started to work on the new kind of mid, the farming oriented one
the space maker one and the team fight oriented mid died long ago and dendi never really adapted, but now he did and he has been doing great in it.
he adapted and thats great because he has the skills to be a top player

To paraphase and adapt a saying from Fiddler on the Roof, "there is no great shame in losing, but their is no great honor either." Hopefully they learn from this and come out strong at Manilla. Can't be the best till you play the best, they are playing some of the best, so now they need to learn, adapt, improve and hopefully we get an awesome showing at the Major.
|
They are at a major in the first place, that's your great showing right there
|
In the winner's interview Moon said something interesting, they were able to 3-0 them because NaVi plays always the same dota and if they don't win in the first 15 minutes they are probably not gonna win, but OG changed their playstyle to the chinese way and they are doing lane control now.
It is clear that NaVi needs to take an outrageous advantage early on or they suffer a lot later, we have already seen it. But more important is how OG stepped up a lot from last patch to this one just by imitating the chinese.
Will we see NaVi stay stubborn and keep playing like they do even if everyone figured them out already or may we see some changes? What do you think guys?

depends a bit on what they want to get done. They're somewhat good again right now and I'd rather have them become better at a rate that's achievable than have them chase a pipe dream that is becomming best team in the world until Manila and ultimately fall appart because they weren't able to get that done. The big thing will be TI anyways.
In that sense... they played OG. No one expected them to stand a chance and there aren't a lot of teams around that you would expect to have a chance vs them right now. So as long as Navi is fine in that ~top5-top10 teams range they're okay? Let's see what it's like vs a team more in their league and small steps forward before throwing everything over board when you just found something that's at least somewhat working.
Of course that's not really a competitors point of view but I'd like that.

I feel that what Navi needs to show now is the ability to consistently beat similar tier teams like VP/Vega/Empire etc, while showing promise to beat higher tier teams like OG/Liquid. Step by step. Soon they need to convert good performances against top teams into wins.

Step by step, and to be honest, they seem to be doing that, not just in results, but in the way you see them.
I didnt see them destroyed after the 3-0, they looked dissapointed, yes, but also happy that they achieved what they were supposed to (finals)
Liquid had this way too, they didnt start exactly like the greatest team and they didnt seem like a team you would call top2 or even the best team but little by little and working they gained that title, and they stuck together as a team... something bar the lastest iteriation, navi never did, but like we saw they seem to finally found a line up they are comfortable with.

I'm always a believer in being the best in what you're good at rather than try to change yourself into something else. Now that doesn't necessarily mean that it'll work in the end but in Navi's cases, I think it'll be the better alternative. I don't believe the existing team members have what it takes to play a much more diverse type of dota (hope they prove me wrong on this though). As much as Dendi is improving on his carry mid heroes, his true talent still lies within playmaking mid like Puck. General is also more of a playmaking offlane than someone who takes advantage of the map and farms elsewhere (i.e Bulldog's style).
I think they will need to get better/more aggressive at the early to early-mid phases, use their bans wisely to prevent opponents from getting a perfect late game line-up.
There is a reason why people call the 4p1 the Chinese style or the #yolodoto CISdoto best doto because each region is good at different things. I sincerely hope Icefrog will buff hero kills rewards much more so that we can have more series like Navi vs VP. I mean 20 kills in 10 minutes? Isn't that what Dota is about?
|
As long as they keep improving and have high morale I am cool with that. It has been a long time since they consistently played non-embarrassing dota. I believe two things must be done: - Sonneiko must learn Phoenix - ArtStyle must step up on non Chen/Ench heroes
With only those two things they will achieve even better results in my opinion. I was going to say three and put Dendi must practice Timbersaw for instance but I think he knows what must be done, hopefully... as his last game with it was two years ago, I don't know about his alt accounts tho.

he has been playing timber in stream so theres that

But then all these aggression and kills mean nothing when one bad gank loses you the bulk of your hardwork due to comeback mechanics. Case in point: navi vs og where navi stomped the early game, but one bad dive in t2 mid resulted in spectre recovering fully. A hero that got shut down in laning phase shouldn't be able to recover so easily with one good fight. Makes no sense.
Anyway on navi hero pool, I do agree that they should play phoenix more. Thing though is that the hero isn't the greatest without levels, and that's something navi supports do not like.
