like kupo said, 3.5 is dota, succesors are superiormobas. But I generally like 5e because it's more focused on RP than combat so it turns out okay. adnd is basically aeon of strife, gg.

In the 3rd they added a shitton of feats and classes and allowed so many options that it impossible to balance it. In the 5th they went back to the early system where your character progress is mostly railroaded, plus they cut down the multiclassing. I also haven't played that much with it, but it's hard to imagine it being nearly as broken as the 3rd. And every other table top RPG ever made. You should get like at least 15 pages in before you claim other peoples understanding is rudimentary.

I'm not claiming it is just a fact. houserules are good but they cannot fix a system that at its core has deep problems, a player that understands a wizard can break the game a number of ways that require a more skilled and prepared gm than a fighter ever can. these are just facts about the pf system The fighter hits things that's all he really does the wizard has nearly unlimited options to overcome basically any obstacle because of how the game is designed

I proceed to create a thiefling monk and be like "hey fuck hermit I wanna be a sailor". Proceed to roll traits n shit. Sailor CHAOTIC EVIL Deal with the fkin pirate now! bond: avenge my captain. flaw: follow orders even if I disagree. After the flaw roll I talk to the DM "yo this makes no sense, how can a chaotic evil pirate follow orders he doesn't agree with?", some minutes of discussion and he comes up "dude you followed your captains orders that u disagreed with, they made you a bad guy and now that he is dead you don't have to follow any orders" YEAHHH MOST OP LORE!!!! proceed to die in the first fight with a single axe swing. Was fun. The DM was kinda of an ass though, he could have let me live, all the DnD people, him included, said that what I did was according to my character story so why kill me for it.

And I have not had the problem with OP wizards or really anything that you describe in a very long time. There is no table top system that is perfect and if your players get out of control or don't have fun its your fault. Players only get OP if you let them.
