You may think their choice of insults is wrong but that's such a ridiculous line in the sand to draw. and then there's the issue of abuse, the problem is Riot views any abuse at all as TOO ABUSIVE TOO FUCKING TOXIC but we all know in real life that there's a certain amount of trash talk and abuse, holy shit most of the dota community does it to ourselves, i'm pretty sure everyone in a TL-GD disaster stack would get banned from league for just a few games in that style because we flame eachother as PART of the fun. Flaming is fun, and sometimes, being flamed is fun, BANTER is fun. Alcohol is a 'toxic' substance, but studies have proven that if everyone is drinking at a table, there's more 'golden moments' where everyone there is smiling or laughing.Its a social lubricant. Trash talk and abusive language is much the same, A certain amount is a social lubricant that makes things more fun, it motivates and can influence the game, you know you wanna go shit on a kid in Dota if he shit-talks you because killing him will feel that much better. For both there's too much that starts to cause damage, but there's a healthy amount too. And finally I just gotta call them hard on their bullshit anyways. We all play a fucking moba here, once again the amount of insults that are 'homophobic, or racist, or sexist, or transphobic' (all things Lyte has said the system is meant to fight) is pretty fucking small, and many times its just using words that could be considered under that umbrella, the problem here is intent and context matter, a bunch of friends joking and saying insults to each other that may be considered transgressive towards a group, like i don't know, the fucking name 'FUTANARI NEKO' in Nigma's stack doesn't mean that he's being transphobic or stupid shit, them calling eachother faggots or bitches doesn't make them homophobic or sexist, intent matters, not just words. This system doesn't fix any of that, the only reason Lyte brings that shit up anyways is because GamerGate is still a thing in recent memory so all four of those words are BUZZWORDS right now that are there to advertise how CARING AND COMPASSIONATE and how Riot is dedicated to SAFE SPACES( I could go on a whole nother rant about how safe spaces are antithetical to competitiveness and intellectualism.) The thing you have to remember about Riot is they're always out to promote Riot first, its not even about profits for them, watch the LCS sometime and you'll notice that a lot of what they're promoting as you watch it isn't league but its all focused on Promoting RIOT and the RIOT beliefs and the RIOT style. That's all they care about, and the only reason Lyte brought those buzzwords up is to promote Riot to more people, because they want everyone to think that Riot cares and is the most benevolent game company ever isn't riot great guys lets go circle jerk about it in our private mod chat w/ rioters in it that we signed NDAs with Riot to be in so we can't tell you anything about it. Like this company is fucking paranoid and weird and cultish, every interaction w/ them involves an NDA. Fuck, i'm getting off topic now. Whatever, you get my point. p6 is stupid for listening and believing. Never trust Riot. | ||
