Here, it might play off their offical site.
And before people freak out, both of the interviewers are not dota community legends. They are Idle Thumbs folks who love Dota and work in the game reporting/development industry.

I feel that's a strawman though. There's definitely an argument to be made that they could have kept the core BW mechanics alive while modernizing, along with graphics and such, the UI.
DOTA 2 is the embodiment of the original DOTA but you're not forced to use legacy keys or anything. It's a modern game that was smart enough to keep all the bits of the original that were good enough not to be replaced.

Most 1.6 hardcores are okay with csgo - almost every pro prefers 1.6, but csgo is good enough where they will play it in its stead. (and there is definitely some nice things about go that 1.6 doesn't have)

why are people still allowed to link to that dumbass joel sposky article from 2000 about how rewrites are bad when the rewrite he's discussing went on to become the wildly successful firefox browser which provided a better way than IE for people to read Joel's dumbass articles

CS 1.6 vs CSGO is a much better comparison for BW vs SC2 than Dota vs Dota 2

People really struggle just to control units and not make them derp around(new players). Dota and CSGO are more accessible from a basic control standpoint. I don't think any RTS, even a perfect one, is going to be as popular as a game where you only control one thing(or maybe a couple things if your crazy and like chen/meepo).
SC2 could have been better for sure, but I am not sure that just making it like BW(or what parts of BW) would have improved it. Beyond the more needing more bases thing, which I did agree with .

I mean come on blizz fucked up a bunch of different things in sc2 the combination of which killed the game you can't really separate one mistake from the rest
also anyone remember mbs arguments lolol
|
Beyond a hardcore fanbase most people call StarCraft a clickfest requiring no skill or strategy and generally dislike it because they want slower paced base builders where you can NR20 and watch giant armies fight each other.

it's not THAT hard to compare mbs to say denying or even lasthitting at all #superiority

I still stand behind the idea that having gimped macro in sc2 hurt the competitive viability of the game.
As a spectator, there's something to be said when you have a ridiculously high skill cieling where even the best players can't do it perfectly. It always makes it more special when a player DOES execute it well and is performing at the highest level, as compared to sc2 where its almost always being performed at a really high level.

cs 1.6 was way bigger in the west than bw ever was. What's sad is that sc2 is/was such ass that it didn't even catch hold in Korea and blizz actively antagonizing what Koreans did with bw.

During Jaedong's BW career he was consistently the best Zerg of his time and won tournaments. In SC2 Jaedong doesn't stand out too much and got mostly second places, which has tapered off lately.

I am not really sure that would have made SC2 any bigger. It would have made few people play the multiplayer however.

What would have given SC2 a much better life would be a custom game system that wasn't utter trash. Literally all they needed to do to make the SC2 custom games amazing would be to port over the WC3 system and add on a proper search system. I mean, making the core game more interesting would have been pretty cool as well, but it's kind of unforgivable what a shitshow that was.
