You're probably never going to get the WC3 system for customs again though. I imagine the Dota 2 customs will try to be a hybrid of both the SC2 and WC3 ones, but we can only speculate on that for now.

The problem with SC2 on the gameplay side isn't that they made a bad game - but rather that they listened to QQ from people like Idra and went about steadily removing all the anti-fun elements from the game until it became the game it was by the end of WoL
This works for LoL because riot also constantly adds new elements that are very anti-fun for people who can't p2w the new champions, leading to more or less a constant amount of fresh anti-fun in the game.

Also, the number one overlooked quality of life change in DotA 2 is that Fan of Knives spells all don't interrupt movement. Even though it's technically a minor buff to all the heroes in question.

They had terrible design on a lot of key units and features that made them all-but-impossible to balance, and that's what fucked over the competitive scene.

I'm pretty sure Dota2 custom games will be heavily tied to the Marketplace. I'll be surprised if custom games aren't based in the hat system.

broodlords were the last non-fun thing left in the game, but think about all the nerfs made to things like void rays, bcs, vikings, HTs, etc and how the fact that those elements became unapproved which directly led to the invincibility of that unit. The problem is that blizzard started with a game in which almost every unit was anti-fun (rather like brood war) and ended up with a game in which only 2 units were anti-fun

In bw, its generally fun to use most anti fun units, but not fun at all for the used against.

all I remember of early wol is 4gate

pretty sure a unit with 12 range, 70 aoe damage, and only cost 150/100 is extremely anti fun for everybody involved

i swear to god i'm going to pistol whip the next person who says anti-fun

I was pretty mad when they nerfed tanks that way. I knew we were fucked then.
