The entire event yeah, I agree. I think the format this year was much better, which helped a ton.

The first 4 games of TI 3 finals were way better than TI4 finals. Tons of cool picks and new stuff, carry venge in the first game, mid wisp, bulldog's unbanned bear, Ogre picked for the first time in the entire event in the third game, Nightstalker was also picked for like only the third time in the fourth game. And the games were pretty close, only game 1 and 2 were stomps comparable to Newbee vs VG.

No games weren't pretty close, in all first 4 games winner was known around 15 minutes mark at most, and 5th game was only entertaining because neither team played well.
And about TI2 buildup, during TI4 NewBee storyline is very simillar to NaVi from TI2 except they won.

You really hate fun, don't you?

And yeah, I feel like most people's favourite teams got eliminated, so they started cheering for VG in the finals and they got rolled over in 4 games with a combined game time of 80 minutes. Then everyone went "well, fuck this shit". Personally I cheered for Mouz, then for Na'Vi, then C9, then EG, then VG. The playoffs were basically one big disappointment.

I mean, at least one of the teams was racist.

That's already one thing in common with TI3.

The same thing happens in normal sports. The MLB loves it when the RedSox and Yankees show down in the play offs because it means huge viewership and $$$$. If the Cubs ever make it to the world series again, the rating will be huge. Same with the Super Bowl when fan favorites are there.

Its not a huge shocker that the same rules of hype and viewership apply to Dota and all other Esports.

Can you explain that? TI3 was the biggest esports tournament in existence at that time and all teams were preparing for it. But.... there was no good dota played there? I really don't get what you mean.

But that doesn't even make any sense. I would get that compared to today the plays at TI3 are not as impressive, but back then it was by far the most skilled Dota one could ever see. Kupo sounds like a bitter Chinese dota fanboy if anything, to be honest.

So what if all the super high quality, Oscar winning dota happened to be played by Chinese teams? That doesn't mean anything.

the puj fountain hook navi tongfu game is an excellent example of awful, but extremely entertaining dota

My favorite game of ti3 was also game 1 of orange vs navi, which was probably the best overall series at ti3, even if it ended with the second biggest throw in TI history

I don't think peoples personal opinions on what is quality dota are really worth debating, even if those opinions are said in declarative statements like they are fact. We all like what we like.

Well, some things can be objectified (is that a word?). If a strategy is new, it is objectively more entertaining than something you've seen multiple times already, etc. But let's not get into that, who gives a shit.

I'm starting to lose track of all the new rosters. I was watching highlights from NVMI vs Hellraisers and was wondering which of the players is Vigoss. Took me a while until I figured out that Vigoss is playing in Moscow5 with PGG, not in Hellraisers with ArtStyle.

Complaints about the meta aside, I for one am glad that we get to see a lot of earthshaker picks these days.

I think Earthshaker should be steered towards more of a core role. Nerf Fissure, buff Enchant Totem. Crits for days.

I'm only slightly sarcastic here.

It's already kind of happening, isn't it? I don't know the exact stats, but wasn't shaker played more as a core than as a support at TI4? The crits don't really matter, but with a lot of levels and a very quick dagger, the shaker is devastating.
