We get that shit all the time at trial where people claim "they were in contact with the opposition" which amounts to them making a bunch of requests our clients aren't able to grant and then claiming they were trying to work something out. But the court eats it up, just like reddit. I don't dislike Fnatic, but I wish people wouldn't take these press releases at 100% fact. The sole purpose of the press release and its length is to convince you that Fnatic did everything right and Valve is being unreasonable, which may or may not be true.

At least it isn't a team with a chance of going far getting booted. Good to know that if a player has a car accident from this point onwards that leaves him unable to move at all, his team gets DQed for "being too late" to announce a replacement. Shit should have been planned in advance you know,

So your pretty much wrong is almost every way. According to Fnatic (according to Fnatic), there had been no problem with Era's health after the D2L. He went to Starladder and DH and did not show any signs of illness so he appeared stable and everyone though he would play every other tournament. Signs starts repearing after DH, (so start of June). So I would argue that it was unforseen. Fnatic says they contacted Valve when Era left the bootcamp, ( and announced by the same fact that he would not play The Summit), I do not know what this is but I assume the team started to look for a standin after and apparently they had 2 days to train with xcalibur so I don't know where that brings us on the timeline, but I don't think fnatic lost time finding a standin after they knew Era couldn't play Summit. EDIT : of course it isnt the same situation, change it to "if a player develops an illness from this point onwards that leaves him unable to play" if you prefer...

The problem is that you're assuming Fnatic did everything within their power to let Valve know this was a legitimate medical concern. For all we know, their manager emailed the Valve contact with a statement that amounted to "Era has been throwing up at bootcamp, we think it's anxiety problems, he won't be playing in the next 2 months". Which, quite frankly, would not fly. If they got a doctor's professional diagnosis, and it showed that Era would be unfit for travel/competition within the TI4 timeframe, and Valve still rejected it, then that would be something worth bitching about. But making some blanket statement and pretending Valve is just an ultimate hard-ass trying to make fanboys cry is just stupid.

HGT replaced KaKa 2 weeks before the qualifiers due to illness. And it was said they were allowed to because they provided documentation. Although I personally don't think the time frame really matters and as long as the teams will handle any flights/visas for replaced players (up to a maximum of 2) and can provide proof of a valid reason for not being able to attend, then they should be allowed to up until like 2 days before. And if we make some assumptions based on their message, it seems they contacted Valve around the 15th of May. Which is by no means early but it's also not that late.
