Instead of dueling with high level chars that all used same items and builds, we were fighting at levels (usually) 9, 15, 18, 29, 30 and 49.
Without most runewords, high level uniques, skill charms, highest tier skills etc.
Items (esp on really low levels) were truly unique (= rare :D), with rare jewels instead of runes... without CTA or Enigma on every char to further increase unique char differences and fun.
About builds... Mostly cookie-cutter since D2 was very old game and everything got eventually figured out. This is where I however do believe D3 skill system could really shine.

I do believe that D3 offers even better enviroment for LLD that D2 did:
1) There is plenty of room for rare items on lower levels (like 15, 19, 20, 29 and 30).
2) There is so much more skill choices on lower levels than D2 ever had, leaving options for dozens of unique builds to fight with. And the best part is... its totally unexplored.
If there are any playing interested in this idea and willing to give it a try, Id like to organize fight clubs on lower levels. Was thinking about levels 15, 19, 20, 29 and 30 - but I havent given it too much though yet.
I play on Europe. And due to superior economy and more interesting item enviroment I think HC should be mode where this should be played.
