So the 11th ladder season of Diablo 2 begins on the 14th of May. And I'm sure there's plenty of people here that are atleast taking a break from D3 by now. So I'm curious to hear if there's any interest from TL'ers to make a small project, like beating the hell baal-killed speedrun record set by some users of the german InGame forum/community; + Show Spoiler +
in baal-running and make the fastest level 99 which could be done in 2-3 weeks or less depending on the effort put in. (The record is 13 days, 22 hours)
man after getting into the genre through d3 and poe, i found PoE racing to be the funnest thing ever. Like a miniladder reset for 3 hours. I wished d3 had something like this. I think I'll pick up d2 so I can get a feel before this reset.
Took a look at the D3 forum to see whether d3 were still alive, and see this thread ^^ Hope you'll get a nice team together, won't be joining you as I've been clean for about a year now I think, won't risk it. Oh and the German version is brutal! Corr fighting!
I got Diablo 2 up and running a while ago back before I got into poe. I have to say - running it well on Windows 7 with a reasonable machine is not for the faint of heart.

running it perfect on win7 x64 what was your problem?
Man watching that video makes me really want to play d2 again but then I realized i'm playing poe which is just like it lol but still what a great game that is and was. If only d3 lived up to it :'(
I would love to help you speed run D2, I recently started playing it with my little brother and we are enjoying it. May 14th is a Tuesday and I would not be able to help you guys be the first ones to beat bail. The next two weekends are not good for me either because of RL. After that I should have a lot of time to play D2. If you just want someone to speed run later but not break any new ladder records PM me. Thanks
I´ve spent the last week or so lvling a new amazon to 70 so far on hardcore. 100% legit ofc. I love playing zon but she is so god damn gear dependant! at least if you go for a bow build.
When the reset hits tomorrow I´ll roll a sorc cause thats easymode and if/when she dies my mules are hopefully full of awesome stuff that I can use for a class that requires good gear.
Funny thing is, that my last playtime on D2 HC was just before D3 release, it was incredible fun, more than D3 release tbh. I got Ber drop on first area it can drop in my 2nd time in hell on that char. There is no other ARPG where i can have fun mauling 1 boss constantly. Too bad newer ARPGs spoiled me technologically, but ill try, atmosphere and artistics are still the best from all ARPGS (D1 was more Single-player and is kinda out-dated).
I will probably play some too. Question is: should i playe in USeast or Europe ( i am in europe but i do not know in which area there are more players xd )

Well europe is just europe, and ther still is quite many players, you can do baal runs and such easily.

Servers could be up any minute. Could be 2+ hours.
socially competitive aspects or d2? how so? no ladder? there was no ladder untill 3(?) years into d2 too. ruined economy? by the fact that there's AH that allows people to do what they did in D2 only easier? Or by the fact that gold actually has a use?
edit:
I mean, don't get me wrong I enjoyed d2 for a few years, since classic release till 1.10, but it's like playing BW now.

Do you really need to have it spelled out for you? D3 didn't improve on a single aspect of d2 apart from graphics. Heres some things that still havent been fixed a year after release: horrible storyline, no interesting quest rewards, no community or socialization, no pvp, no character customization, very few viable builds, pay to win rmah, no ladders of any kind, no public game lobby, drops are laughably bad, drops are laughably boring, white and blue items do nothing,... I'm sure I can double this list if I thought another few minutes
D2 had as shitty storyline, and nobody and I mean nobody played this game for the storyline after first finish. Don't tell me you read every dialogue everytime you played, d2 didnt have interesting quest rewards either(unless you mean naming your weapon whooowhooooo superfucking sweet), community or socialisation isnt any better in d2, unless you think bigger chat makes a better game social-wise, there is pvp, what the hell are you talking about, you can customise your character in shitload of ways, there are many viable builds and its not like most poeple play hammerdins on d2 , rmah is just what d2 had but integrated into the game, there was more bot messages about gold/items shops than regular chatter on your FAR SUPERIOR CHATS, there was no ladder the first few years of D2 too, theres maybe hundreds of people having 100 paragon, no need for a ladder now, no public games? srs? the only thing missing is naming your own games, the fact that you didnt get any good drops doesnt mean drops are bad, how was d2 different? blues were pretty common in the first weeks after release, its not like people roll with anything else than uniques in d2. d2 was good for its time and now its bad. stop being an elitist jerk, we got shitton of those in here already
go double the list, those arguments are pretty bad. the only reason you think d3 is bad because youve set up a superhigh expectations before the d3 release and you wouldnt be satisfied with anything

Thank you for answering my question as well. Definitely playing on East then.

Can't tell if troll or not. The fact that there's as many people excited for this as there are total playing D3 says it all. Really not going to waste my time bothering with taking the rest of the troll bait.
On topic, this has me seriously thinking of re-installing and playing another barb.

You're just.... wrong in a lot of aspects. Community and social aspects were better in d2, as the way PvP and trading worked you were constantly interacting with other people, there was real incentive for clans/socialization via PvP and ladder, etc. D3 didn't have PvP at launch and it's still far worse than D2 PvP ever was. There are far more viable builds in d2 than d3; if you think everyone played a hammerdin you obviously didn't play much of the game. And what? People don't use uniques all that often in d2, it's more often runewords or rares; an Afletch is better than any unique you're going to use. D2 is good for its time and it's good now, hence why people still play it, hence why many still regard it as a great game, hence why people are excited for this ladder reset. I agree that d3 gets a lot of unnecessary hate (and a lot of deserved hate for pushing out an unfinished product) but posts like this don't make the game look any better, especially when a lot of your "arguments" have no valid support.

It seems like you are the biggest rager here, im just gonna ask you if you think D2 had shitty storyline then how can you even begin with talking about d3 that just brought everything to the gutter in that regard. Do you understand that they butchered the last remnants of Diablo feel?
The Diablo feel i mentioned is pretty straightforward, its dark anti-christian gothic setting, D3 does not present this setting anymore. What was unique for Diablo 1 and Diablo 2 does not exist anymore, because Activision prefered mainstream. Its like buying Agatha Christie book and instead of mystery you get romance because more people will buy it. After D3 there is nothing more to Diablo brand besides the name of the last boss.
I weep for this more than for gameplay, for me part of Diablo 2 experience was actual FEEL of the universe, there were VERY few games in gaming history that had similar gutsy setting.
