Homosexuality is a small (if not entirely insignificant) factor. For comparison: not all child molestors are pedophiles, either (as in, not sexually attracted to prepubescent children). Most are not. See the parallel? I have no personal investment in this argument, I just want to see the derailing end. | ||

It's not about the guy being gay or whatever, he molested a minor half his age who was under his guardianship. It would have been just as heinous if they were of the opposite sex. But it's all already been said. It sucks. | ||

I agree, with one stipulation. You can hide being gay in public, you can not hide being black. Maybe that's why it has become culturally acceptable to use "gay" and "fag" as synonyms for "stupid", while the n-word remains a tense subject. That said, no one should have to fake who they are. In a country where we entertain everyone from the Communist Party of America to the Tea Party, why can't we do the same with sexuality? But it all comes back to this. Homosexuality has nothing to do with this topic, period, end of story. Being gay does not mean you automatically want to have sex with kids. Yes, some pedophiles are gay, some are straight, but their leanings and their desire for children are two separate things. I too think this topic needs to be locked, or at least heavily cleaned. | ||

However, as an extreme example it actually does quite well shifting blame away from homosexuality. If more of the men molesting children are not gay, than it further normalizes the rate of homosexuality within child molesters (IE, closer to the same percentage of homosexuals and heterosexuals are child abusers). If it is as you say, that a significant portion of men who abuse boys are not gay, then any sort of argument that homosexuality can be correlated to child abuse becomes even weaker. In essence, I'm not disagreeing with anything you said. I don't think my original argument deserves to be completely discredited though. The original logic still pretty much stands, which is if you assume that ALL the men who abuse boys are homosexuals, that it still wouldn't correlate to a significant increase in the tendency of gays to be child molesters. Therefore, by more realistic approximations, as you noted, there is even less evidence to support such a case. | ||

So there's no chance the allegations are false? Wow... | ||
