http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/playoffs/2009/columns/story?columnist=hollinger_john&page=PERDiem-090513 gg no re motherfucker! LEARN BETTER OFFENSE HO! but seriously, this is very true... he isn't a fluid offensive player like Shaq or Hakeem or any of the great centers; his scores come mostly from offensive boards or some sort of interior cutting + passing to him when he's open. this is good because hopefully (if he takes Hollinger's advice) he will have a clear weakness (1on1 post offense) that he can work on over the summer... so that next year he can come in and take 20 shots per game and average 40 points,

Driving the ball is working, but you decide to switch to jump shooting because the refs didn't call the non-foul on Turk one time? And now Dwight isn't too happy. I remember reading from numerous articles and hearing commentary during games that SVG is considered one of the better coaching minds in the NBA. They cited his work with the Heat (before Riley stepped in after SVG had laid all the groundwork), and his development of the Magic into a strong contender in a relatively short period of time. To be fair, he turned Turkoglu into almost-Allstar material, Shard into a legitimate PF who plays some defense, and developed DHow into the Defensive Player of the Year. One can argue whether all of these players would've reached those points on their own, particularly DHow, but those are some positive facts on his side. I've also heard that he is VERY detailed and knows a LOT about basketball, so much that other coaches take note of it. Regardless though, I have to agree that SVG has not covered himself in glory in the playoffs. More than his inability to make DHow a factor (which I think is due more to DHow's deficiencies on offense and Boston's focus on stopping him), I have issues with how he utilizes Turkoglu and Shard. He basically lets Turk play as a SG, with high screens out beyond the 3pt line, as opposed to letting him take advantage of his significant size advantage against those who have guarded him in this series. When Boston goes small and puts Ray Allen on Turk, they should immediately take advantage of the size difference and post Allen up to force a double-team and create offense from there. Instead, they continue to try to set up Turk for drives, despite him being significantly slower than Ray. This hurts them on defense because they let the Celtics get away with putting such a small player on Turk and allow him to utilize his speed advantage in the matchup the other way. SVG's decision to pull DHow out of the paint on offense to give screens also seems questionable since it takes him away from the basket and makes it very unlikely that DHow will get any offensive boards since he'll always be behind his man after setting screens that far out.

If you watch how he plays, particularly against Perkins, you'd understand. He is ineffectual on offense unless he is being set up by other players. Dumping the ball into him to go 1-on-1 against Perkins usually results in a poor shot, and the C's don't double him so he doesn't create offense for others.

BOS scored 33 points the last quarter (to 21 by ORL - which with that intentionally misssed free throw it would have been 22, exactly what they scored in quarters 1 and 3... and only 1 point less that Q2). Granted, some BOS points came of turnovers, ORL still needed to do a better job on DEFENSE. DH got ONE rebound in Q4. That has nothing to do with people not giving him touches. Their defense during the big run wasn't that bad, Boston's offense just had some incredible plays (double screen into Pierce below the basket) and Ray's ridiculous 3 pointer. I do think you go with what works, and I just can't believe SVG's explanation for why he switched from a lineup that was getting to the rim (earn fouls for the end of the game) to shooting jumpers. Do you really trust Rafer Alston when he tells you he got fouled? Rafer Alston doesn't believe Rafer Alston when he says he got fouled. And I love what Chuck said about that teardrop he made earlier in the game. "The worst thing about that shot is that he actually made it." Hollinger is right about Howard's offensive game, but you still need to get him touches so he can draw the defense. You hope he decides to pass out instead of taking a terrible shot (which may or may not happen), but you still need to give him the ball in the post to get yourself the 3s that the Magic love, and at the very least keep him near the rim so he can clean up when Lewis misses 3 3s in a row.

i think a huge key to the series is whether jr smith can get his driving game going (carmelo too), if he does it'll open it up for the shooters, and they're gonna need to shoot reasonably well to beat the lakers. it'll fuck with the lakers heads, say bynum gets in foul toruble, and nene beats gasol up enough to take him out of the game, the nuggets should have no problems scoring at all. nene is way better than people think, especially against softies like pau. of course i don't know how the nuggets can defend the lakers either REALLY looking forward to this one, there are so many variables and it should be high scoring. i have a feeling the nuggets can do it
