wasn't this proven to be untrue and the dog never died but just was there "starving" for a little while..

Yeah, iirc the whole thing was just a ruse to bring a message along the lines of "all you people would care so much if I were to kill a dog, yet you go on ignoring the millions dieing in Africa"
or something like that, but yeah, I don't think the dog actually died.
On February 17 2009 22:47 Navane wrote: This reminds me of that spanish(?) art guy who killed a dog in a museum or smt, to ask attention for bad things that happened elsewhere in the world.
An artist took two dogs that were starving on the street and, if I remember correctly, created a sort of juxtaposition where the one was fed and the other one was exhibited in a museum as a starving animal. It was quite a clever idea because the artist didn't actually worsen the dog in the museum's life, he just did nothing to change it and brought it to people's attention. So thousands of animal lovers protested because the artist was "maltreating" the dog, but in actual fact he was just ignoring the dog like thousands of dogs on the street are ignored each day. I thought it was quite a good statement, but lots of people were very upset.
That said, I love it when the internet comes together to do something useful like this.

according to the director of the gallery the dog was fed and was only shown for 3 hours before it escaped..

I think part of that is pure bullshit, sure if he had problems like that he would have sold 4chan years ago netting himself a fuck a loads of money. ;;

i can't be sure, as i am not fully informed, but the Washington post seems credible, and sold to who? and for what value? of course he can make easy money off advertisement, but he apparently doesn't want to.
I hate animal abusers and I really wish the guy that beat the cat and the one that filmed it to die a slow and horrible death. Like some form of cancer. Like testicle cancer. Or prostate cancer... I am so mad right now... crap

Trolling is simple. Simply make a thread saying that MBS and auto mining will make Starcraft 2 more competitive. Then watch as how dozens of raging nerdgins (the formal term for a nerd who is also a virgin) tear the post apart, discussing the mechanics of human-eye coordination and bringing up quotes of professional gamers playing a pre-alpha build of Starcraft 2. This can only be done on the battle.net site as you will be immediately banned from the latter site for writing such uncultured drivel.

Not if they want to be ridiculed. Everyone here could and should do that if someone here screams rules 1 and 2. It only applies to raids anyway.
But yea this cat video seemed to piss a lot of people off there, it was pretty amazing see them all work together to ruin someones life.
Just goes to show you that the internet is a pretty cutthroat place.
I don't know what rule 1 and 2 are. But, there are those Koreans who killed themselves, or were at least heavily shamed because of rumors spread on the internet. However, in their cases, they didn't actually even do any of the things that were alleged in the rumors.
In this case, the kid himself provided video evidence of his crimes, so I suppose he had it coming. I mean, what was he trying to achieve by recording a video of his beating a cat? If he wasn't trying to achieve having internet people ruin his life, I have no idea.
I think people should not harass his family, but it's definitely fine if they try to destroy his life. He'll get over it. My step dad spent a lot of time trying to destroy my life, but I've gotten over it.
1. Guy in the vid should go to jail immediately, they would show him there what the word 'abuse' stands for. 2. 4chan sucks anyway. 3. The sound in this video was horribly out of sync.
rules 1 and 2 only apply to raids because its pointless apart from stopping the media from calling 4chan some evil cult whenever someone raids scientology

Here's the latest news on the story and what's happening.
To sum it all up, both teens have been charged with two accounts of animal cruelty and will go on trial. But, since they're both juveniles, the punishments will be minor and the records will be sealed. Big surprise.
Schulte says he did not know what punishment the boys may face if found guilty, but said the penalties for a juvenile conviction could include psychological counseling, court monitoring until they turn 18, community service to provide restitution for treatment of animals, and/or placement in court custody.
In other words, less of a punishment than I get for mooning the other team's fans at a football game. The system works...

I have no doubts their life has became hell lately, as they have reaped the shitstorm of bad karma they sewed for theirselves.
They are dumb confused kids who probably were shaped by their environment to be fucked up in the first place.
The real problem is that none of this, including jail if they went there, would fix what is wrong with their heads. They need love and rehabilitation.

Obviously significant counselling is the only thing that can have a positive effect on these kids' lives right now. It's the only chance at creating some artificial sense of empathy to stand-in for the one these guys seem to have been born without. But if you think that a court-ordered, non-voluntary, minimum therapy is going to make a difference (and that's if they get the book thrown at them), you aren't referencing reality. Oh, but their mom is taking away their dirtbike.
I know you like to play arm-chair philosopher, but it's all just speculation. These kids are yet to be diagnosed with any serious mental disability (along the lines of the myriad of serious mental disabilities with which people lead productive lives while not torturing defenseless animals).
I disagree with how the justice system uses something like prison as a form of rehabilitation for a crime when the only 'rehabilitation' often gained is a fear of going back to prison. But I also feel that some people are simply beyond rehabilitation. If we disagree on that point, then obviously we aren't going to agree on much here =P

When it comes to real life issues, I usually agree with you. However, I don't think they were "born" unlucky. They chose to be bad. Nevertheless, they do need love and understanding. It is impossible to overcome love and understanding with hatred, selfishness, or a ruthless disdain for cats.
Even if it is futile, Flaccid, I believe individual members of society who have the power should try their best to change the situation. It's all we can do, and it's probably cheaper than imprisoning people for eternities.

Ya I remember that on the news, they went to court and a whole bunch of restrictions placed on them. Sick people.
It's ironic how people can feel sorry for an abused animal, yet wish for the death of or great harm to the abuser. I wish harm to no one. These kids may have went beyond what's socially acceptable, but you are no better than them by hoping they'll be raped in jail or the like.

I never understood people's feelings for pets. It seems so arbitrary, many people will wish a person dead for hurting a cat, but then turns around and eats a cow. What makes a cat better, because you can hug it?
So its cat/dog > human > other animals?
Don't get me wrong, the guys a jerk for doing this to his pet, but I wouldn't wish him harm, at worst I would go out of my way to avoid him.

Thats what I meant. People need to get their ethics and priorities straight. Acting out of reason and not instinct is what separates men from beast.

People love their pets because they give their owners love without asking for much in return. If a person does something bad it's because they chose to do it. If a pet does something bad it's because it is in their nature or you scared it or you didn't train it properly or whatever. Pets are nicer than humans I suppose :D at least that's how it makes sense to me.
I guess the fact that non-vegetarians get outraged at animal abuse is because animals killed for meat aren't abused to the same extent that this cat was.

Someone who beats a cat, or tortures animals in some other way, is not a person I would want to be around. Don't most serial killers get their start from doing stuff like that? It's a huge warning flag that this person is dangerous and not in the right frame of mind.
Now the question for what to do about it should be obvious: counseling and therapy, and lots of it. Because I can see no better way to instill or fix these kids concepts of right and wrong. To cause pain for pleasure, its not something you can simply scold someone and slap their wrist over, because that concept can bleed forth into every aspect of their life.
I can't believe I just did that -_-. The guy who beat the cat is despicable. He deserved to be caught, and I have to give it to 4chan for going through with it. I can't say I necessarily support 4chan in everything, but I support this. I have a cat =)

which would mean it tormented and killed small animals such as bugs, mice, rats, birds, lizards, etc.
