Some of you people are pretty misinformed - any YoY or MoM decline is either due to seasonality, OR the lack of release of expansions. They are growing as strongly as they ever have. While I agree WoW is expanding at a large rate, so is the MMO market in general. For Blizzard to maintain their massive market share they need to release a new game. http://www.mmogchart.com/ is the only reliable data on this. One of his conclusions on the MMO scene in general is that expansions don't increase growth rate, they merely sustain it. Some people will simply dislike wow, for whatever reason, and will never play it. To maintain their market share they need to release a new game before the old one dies out. What a way to put a dent in the WAR and AoC hype than to announce a new awesome MMO. P.S. I also play TBC in Sunwell and I agree with the guy that says PvE is constantly improving. Every new instance is pretty much better than the old one. MC was a joke compared to the smoothness of Sunwell. WotlK will definitely be another step up.

The company reported Q4 revenues of EUR 6,014 million (USD 8.9 million) compared to EUR 5,545 million (USD 8.2 million) for the same period of the prior year. Vivendi's performance was roughly in line with analyst forecasts. It said that it expected net adjusted earnings to reach approximately EUR 2.8 billion (USD 4.14 billion) in 2007. Although Q4 revenue for the Vivendi Games division was down 4.4 per cent [seasonality], the division's total revenue for the year exceeded EUR 1 billion for the first time ever - an increase of 33.5 per cent from 2006. The increase was attributed to Blizzard Entertainment, as revenues from Sierra Entertainment, Sierra Online and Vivendi Games Mobile were down from the prior year. Vivendi noted the impact of unfavourable currency exchange movements upon these business segments. In 2007, Blizzard's World of Warcraft reached over 10 million subscribers. The company also released the first World of Warcraft expansion - The Burning Crusade - during the first quarter."

"Vivendi Games Q1 revenue down 24.1 per cent Vivendi reported Q1 2008 earnings showing revenue from Vivendi Games down 24.1 per cent from the same period of the prior year. Blizzard Entertainment's revenues were EUR 192 million (USD 296.97 million) - nearly 87 per cent of the total EUR 221 million (USD 341.8 million) in revenues for Vivendi Games. The company reported that two million incremental World of Warcraft subscribers were added when compared to March of 2007, including more than 700,000 new players added in the first quarter of 2008. Vivendi indicated that a comparison of Q1 2007 and Q1 2008 performances would not be representative, however, because Q1 2007 included the release of World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade. World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King, the second expansion, is scheduled to be released in the second half of 2008. Parent company Vivendi reported Q1 revenues of EUR 5.3 billion (USD 8.19 billion), up 5.2 per cent from the same period of the prior year. Net income, however, fell 9.6 per cent to EUR 697 million (USD 1.077 billion). Vivendi confirmed its overall outlook for 2008, expecting to deliver a profit growth similar to 2007."

Blizzard pulls in about 200-300 million dollars (2007 earnings) in good quarters, and somewhat less in slow quarters. Subscriptions alone would bring earnings to $450,000,000 per quarter, not including the sales of games. If you estimate that Blizzard is brining in about 1,000,000 (which is an underestimate) new user game sales per year, you have almost another $10,000,000. This is without even factoring in income from sales in franchises other than World Of Warcraft. I did play the game at that time. Just about EVERY that was for months before that considered a 'medium' population realm or even a 'low' population realm, turned back into max population realms for months. BC brought back a ton of interest, not removed it. This was because of the change in server structure and max caps on servers. Blizzard wanted people evenly across all the realms to justify the costs they paid for bringing in new servers. No point in upkeeping a server for the same cost if it only houses 1/3 the players that others do. However, this might not be the case for WOTLK, I'm not entirely disagreeing with you. I really don't see the third expand bringing back as many as TBC did, or expanding the population base nearly as much. The biggest complaint I hear is that BC raiding completely sucks compared to vanilla WoW. WOTLK promises even more easy and dumbed down encounters, with more welfare gear. It didn't work for BC, and it won't work for WOTLK. You're just wrong. Very Wrong. I played WoW as an addict for months. I got into Arena pvp and raiding. You sound like one of those kids who's casual guild couldn't down Karazhan, so the guild disbanded and you quit WoW thinking that TBC Sucks. I played before and after the Expansion and the Burning crusade was the best thing that has ever happened to WoW. The raid encounters are better designed, more difficult, and more fun in general. Compare Gruul and Mag to Onyxia... Compare TK to BWL... 'nuff said. The only reason I don't still play is because the game is simply TOO good. It has more potential than ever to ruin people's lives. Why? Because it's way, way, way, way too fun. WoW was at 5 million active subscribers before expansion, and I do recall them reaching 9 million at some point after. I don't know current numbers, but TBC nearly doubled the active WoW community, made it more addictive than ever, and added an intense PvP system which now allows broadcasting Arena tournaments with prizes. Don't forget the earnings they get from the special Arena server they created which thousands of people signed up for. Anyone who is afraid of D3 being an MMO is just blindly prejudice. Maybe you had a friend who got Addicted to WoW. Maybe you tried it, got to level 18 or 46, got bored and quit. The fact is, When you reach the top level in WoW, and start Raiding and PvPing, it is stupidly addictive and fun. WoW is the best mmo out there by a longshot because Blizzard is capable of supporting and adding to it. If D3 is an MMO, I'm certain it will be a fucking incredible one. The only issue I can see people having is the Pay-to-play, which I somewhat agree with. Nobody likes to pay to play, but if the game is as amazing as WoW, and requires as much support and technical maintanence, then I have no issued paying monthly. HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAH '-.- tbc made the game suck yes there is gosu arena esports now i like that allot about it but its not nearly as fun as it was before tbc.
