I just started playing starcraft 2 one week ago without any past sc experience. I decided to pick up terran (aesthetic reasons), but found that I quite liked the way people say it's supposed to be played compared to the other races. Anyways, what kind of strategy should I use as a beginner? I heard somethings about bio and mech; which one is better? What units should I use? Any terran tips will help a lot! Thank you so much.

learn reaper expand into 3 base builds for TvP and TvZ

TvT as a beginner you should go double gas 1/1/1 into expand. There are tons of variants and gas timings here. I say double gas since you are a beginner to be safer against other such builds. (there are situations that require very precise defense in 1 gas vs 2 gas builds). also in this case reactor=>marines + raven=>viking + tank is safest 1/1/1. but you can learn WM and banshee and cyclone openings later on with this base opening.

(you can easily look up what this jargon means, btw)

Hi,
it sounds like you are an absolute beginner. welcome to sc2.

Forget about all the fancy jargon and "build orders" -
learn how to constantly build svcs (up to a certain point) and supply depots (never get supplyblocked) and as many marines as possible only first.

look up "filtersc2 bronze to masters ep1 the basics" on youtube. it doesnt show the current version of the game,
but the principles shown there still apply.

Bio and Mech are terms, that describe the type of unit composition that the Terran is going for.

Bio means that you manily produce units from the Barracks production building and the most famous unit composition is Marine, Marrauder, Medivac. You support your Bio composition with the weapon upgrades from the ebay.

Mech describes the units that are produced in a Factory or a Starpot and that are affected with the weapon upgrades from the armory.

Commonly there are also Bio-Mech compositions like Marine, Tank, Medivac. The focus is mainly on Bio, because you will have more Barracks compare to Factory and Starport production buildings.

Bio and Bio-Mech compositions are the most favourite currently. In the current Meta game, you see players use mainly Marine, Marrauder, Medivac in TvP and Marine, Tank, Medivac in TvT and TvZ. As the game goes on other units are added into the mix as counters to a specific army composition of the opponent.

Bio compositions have a higher mobility compared to Mech heavy compositions. Marine, Marrauder and Medivac are effective in small numbers and Medivacs can load the units and drop them to different places.

Mech compositions tend to be immobile, because the core of each Mech composition are Tanks and Thors, which are very slow units. Small groups of bio are stronger than a small group of Mech, which makes defending bases difficult for the Mech player until he has a big enough army.

Here's the link:

Those videos are excellent, but you should ignore what's said about the number of SCVs and early game supply counts, because the videos were created during the previous expansion, and at the time the games would start with 6 SCVs rather than 12.

Edited to add: Another thing that's changed since then is that the in-game time passes more slowly now. So you should also ignore all mentions of time elapsed since the beginning of a game.

Don't worry too much about what is best because the answer changes based on what skills you have, instead just pick the units you like and play around with them. The important things to remember is that skipping workers to get stuff faster will probably hurt you more than your opponent, and that once you have a decent army at home remember to send out small army units to the watchtowers and along the main attack path to get some eyes on where on the map is safe to be. If your opponent keeps killing the small scouting units and you're unsure if you can expand, then don't worry about getting more upgrades just build army units and attack him directly.

If you like being aggressive then fast units tend to be better, if you like being defensive then slow units tend to be better.

Hello and welcome to Teamliquid and SC2. Unfortunately, i'll have to close this thread, as it doesn't follow our Strategy Forum Guidelines which you can find here http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/sc2-strategy/338554-update-sc2-strategy-forum-guidelines-read-first

Individual help request threads, which need to be tagged with an [H] in their title, are for asking help in a specific game or replay. Generic questions like this should be asked in the Terran Help Me Thread found here http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/sc2-strategy/498659-the-lotv-terran-help-me-thread or in the simple questions, simple answers thread found here http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/sc2-strategy/187808-simple-questions-simple-answers

If you have any more questions feel free to send me a PM!
