man Lesean Mccoy and Jonathon Stewart being out is gonna hurt bad for my championship, but at least the team i play doesn't get to use ODB
|
My league has 2 QBs and a 2nd flex position that allows a QB. I'm in the championship game but got all 3 QBs injured. Also got Stewart, Blount, Amendola and Eifert injured. But hey, I'm going to be 2nd place.

He was still somewhat in the MVP running in most people's mind til his injury but it shouldnt have DQed him from the pro bowl title. oh well. just a popularity contest

Also difficult for fans to judge certain positions and assignments. I've been watching football for years and wouldn't know who would be a good O-lineman without being told. And a group of 5 Pro-Bowl linemen would perform worse than 5 mediocre linemen who have been playing as a unit for an entire year.

yea rashad jones had a monster year, his numbers are off the charts for a safety. But he's on a shitty dolphins team so nobody cares. i havent even really heard networks talk about him so zero chance of him getting into probowl

The only thing I used to enjoy about the PB was the skills challenges... Haven't cared since.

I would watch the pro bowl if it were replaced by skills challenges. It would also give players in less popular positions a chance to be seen. There could even be challenges for punters.
I didn't know they used to do it. I had to look it up on wikipedia to find it finished in 2007. I guess it wasn't publicised much. What arguments are there against skills challenges anyway? Are the players worried about being beaten? Is the league worried that players who become popular in the skills challenges would ask for more money?

Because it isnt a traditional football game, so less fan appeal. I think only hardcore football fans really appreciate the skill challenges. I enjoyed them immensely. I think I'd rather see them and see the actual skill going into specific positions and actually allow for SB teams to compete, rather than a half-hearted Pro Bowl game with teams full of SB players who won't see much time or action.

In terms of PB snubs, I'd say one of the biggest (for me at least because JAX is my 2nd favorite team) is Allen Robinson (WR). He has been an absolute beast for that team, and with only a few close losses over the course of the season, Jacksonville could have a much better record if a few things had gone their way. The fact that they had no one player voted in was very saddening, considering they aren't even close to the worst team in the league this year.

yeah Allen Robinson had a fantastic year and him and Bortles gave the jags a real chance at that division, I think (and hope) that next year they will continue to improve.

Haha with the trash AFC south, they could go 8-8 and still win the division by a mile next year.
Also the fact that Robinson is tied for 1st with OBJ for receiving touchdowns and is #1 in the league in catches for 20+ yards (38% of his receptions were for 20+ :O) and still doesnt get in... the popularity contest is real in this one.

would be nice for less emphasis on fan voting tho i suppose, hopefully robinson gets recognition next year assuming he's playing at this ridiculous level still

All Star voting has a halo effect. The secondary stars of the teams with the best records are very overrated.
