Unless USA wants a war, it is never going to happen. EU doesn't care enough about Ukraines national sovereignty to start a world war. No, the real bitch for Russia will be Putin getting sanctioned and hated across the world. Putin is a tyrant and a dictator, but he has never been reckless and stupid. Starting a real invasion of Ukraine is blatantly stupid. I think the US and EU foreign ministers know what they are doing when they are relatively cautious about warning Russia. Crimea is a deeply divided province and so far it hasn't spiraled out of control.

he is already deeply hated throughout the world why would he care ol

EU doesn't have an army and US has too many troops tied to Middle East, both lack political motivation, there won't be a war between those parties. Russia might have Georgia-like conflict with Ukraine where they crush them in couple days

He will really care if the US imposes a no fly zone over the Ukraine to protect the opposition.

Actually the EU HAS an army (if only about 20 batallions iirc) and every member has an army of its own. Still, I think an armed conflict between russia and the EU is highly unlikely. But I hope a russian invasion (regardless of scale) will result in severe economic sanctions.

Explanation, Ukraine agreed to give away its huge stockpile of nukes in the 94 Budapest memorandum in exchange from a promise from Russia (lol), US and UK to safeguard its territorial integrity.
Mr. Lavrov reaffirmed an earlier commitment by Mr. Putin to respect the territorial integrity of Ukraine and assured the U.S. that the Russian military exercises announced this week aren't related to recent events in the former Soviet republic. Source

I don't think reserves which are the bulk of most EU member armies would go to war over Ukraine

So what if Russia uses this to then say to Ukraine "See, EU didn't really care about you."?

After seeing that video, i have to agree. It's not "pro-russian-militia", but russia going full retard. Just because i'm not entirely sure, sending military transports into a country without permission, what repercussions could that have? What did you see in the video, except unclear helicopters flying somewhere in the world at unclear point in time. Also Russia has a base in Sevastopol, are you surprised they have military equipment there ? Seems to me you are jumping to conclusions based on nothing. Firstly the radio news station that can be heard in the video is in Ukrainian. And the news they were talking about is as fresh as it gets, posted around 13 hours ago http://ngs23.ru/news/25590268/view/

Actually i think that something like this could happen. Deal between Russia and west.Russia gets Crimea, assurances that pro Russian part of Ukraine will be treated fairly and included in government, and on the other side west gets its NATO bases in Ukraine, also Ukraine gets that 16 billion (i think its something like that) help from Russia. Ultimately even if Russia gets Crimea they still come out as a losers because they get very long border with country which will,im quite sure, have shit load of NATO bases. Off course that is if Russia is willing to lose such large country as Ukraine from its influence but i dont think they have much choice and probably wont risk war.

Okay, Obama basically said nothing.
|
Indeed, that was as brief and vague as possible
|
what he basically said is "well we hope russia goes back if they dont, well too bad, we will try talking to them again sometime in the future and hope for a better luck"
|
Obama said:
US reaffirms commitment to the [Budapest Memorandum] territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine, and there will be costs to Russia should they violate those. An important aspect is that he said that Joe Biden just told the transitional govt. that Obama stands with them. [Minor point: Obama commended the restraint of the transitional govt. in its response.]

[Don't know if it's really a red line...]
|
No need to post tweets saying that Obama said that there will be costs after you have posted that Obama said that there will be costs. :p

Could you stop posting twitter links in general? It appears to break TL's link to a specific post system, which is used for subscribed threads.
My best guest is that it's treating the URL as though it only will take up as much space as it does written and so sends you to a higher up area of the page than it should given that the twitter pictures take up too much room. Just a guess since I don't know exactly how their system works.

You should tell R1CH about this. There's a specific thread on twitter links.
As for those tweets, I wanted to point out the comment on redlines and that it's not being repeated by others.
