lmao where u at NATO? Should be noted that Kaliningrad is basically an Island surrounded by NATO states, not directly connected to Russia via land.
(So basically an easy prime target IF NATO states take action against Russia for any reason.)

A source in the Ukrainian defence ministry has told the Guardian’s, Shaun Walker, in Crimea, that he has heard nothing about an ultimatum that has reportedly been posed to Ukrainian forces in the region to surrender before 3am GMT or face an assault. Shaun writes:
He is not that senior but says he’s on a base right now and neither he nor the base commanders have heard anything of the sort. He said: “It’s probably another red herring to stir up trouble.”

@The people hating NATO above: Article 4 was already invoked, that will (hopefully) be the extent of the action unless member states are being attacked.
e: Wait what. Can those people figure out wtf they want to do?

You do realise that if a western power steps in the ensuing conflict is going to be terrible? This isn't call of duty you know, and nato is in any event a defensive pact... Ivenno idea why you seem to be goading on a confrontation.

Actually, there are sightings of Polish armor being transferred from west to east. Military has denied any relation to the current crisis, but that should be understandable. On a road today, I saw a column of armored vehicles myself, so I think they are preparing for the worst possibility.

It comes as Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev discussed the situation in Ukraine with US Vice President Joe Biden by telephone on Monday.
Mr Medvedev "declared that it is necessary to protect the interests of all Ukrainian citizens, including residents of Crimea, and citizens of Russia who are located in Ukraine," according to Interfax.
He added that Russia would press ahead with plans to build a bridge linking Russia directly with the Crimea region - providing a vital transport link to the Black Sea peninsula.
Mr Medvedev told deputies the two countries had signed "documents related to a project for construction of a transport corridor across the Kerch Strait" in December, when now-ousted Ukrainian president Viktor Yanukovych was still in power.
The Russian foreign ministry said Nato criticism of its actions in Crimea "will not help stabilise" the situation in Ukraine.
It said: "We believe that such a position will not help stabilise the situation in Ukraine and only encourages those forces that would like to use the current events to achieve their irresponsible political goals."

spiegel.de reporting that it's an Ukrainian version of Interfax that was reporting the ultimatum with no confirmed source.

Not more, not less. Yet NATO has grown way beyond its original charter, denying that is naive too. If any international organization were to act on any of this, it would be NATO.

@Ghanburighan: It would be awesome if you'd quote twitter posts you're linking, otherwise no one can see them and it's a pain to check what they're actually saying.

Leading a group of OSCE observers should come to Ukraine evening of March 3, reports Agence France-Presse , citing U.S. and European diplomats. It is expected that these organizations will give observers neutral information and honest assessment of what is happening in Ukraine. To start a full observation mission of the OSCE Russia must withdraw its remaining claims regarding their activities, agency sources said. The Russian ambassador to the OSCE Andrei Kelin said earlier that large observer mission in the area of conflict "is not always useful." According to him, Kosovo and South Ossetia, these missions have played a negative role. U.S. Assistant Secretary Victoria Nuland, in turn, pointed out that the first observers should go to the Crimea, to try to reduce the level of tension there. According to her, the Russian troops stationed at key points of the peninsula can be replaced by the UN or OSCE observers, and the soldiers themselves have to go back to the barracks. Source.
