Lots of casters are former players, not all of them, but that is a good way to gain entry into casting. The only female casters I know are Soe, and ZombieGrub. Soe usually plays the host/interviewer role though, but she has great game knowledge. As for ZombieGrub I have seen her cast more small stuff mostly, but she is getting bigger stuff, she was one of the casters at the last MLG. She casted from her home, but I tuned in if she had a match I wanted to watch. So to conclude, we don't have that many female players, so I would say it is simply the fact we don't have a lot female casters because of that, because pretty much everyone who casts plays the game and loves the game.

I think any woman who follows ESPORTS will have noticed how kellyMILKIES was attacked in this community, back when she casted GSL. Yes, she wasn't a GSL level caster, but the shitstorm she received was insane, much worse than Moletrap, who wasn't liked by any more people than her, but he didn't pose for the playboy (or some similar magazine).

Having Seltzer as a hostess is already incredible, she must have one of the thickest skins in all of ESPORTS. I doubt another woman will want to be a caster in this community.

I think we have rather many female casters for the amount of women enjoying the game. And like people mentioned even had one in Code A for a short while. And if you visit threads from that time you know why it is a bit tougher for them to grab those spots (or if you just go through an LR where the host was a woman)
The other thing is that there is the club of casters that is incredible hard to become part of. Don't know when people talked about this anymore (derailed pretty quickly and was a mostly nonsense anyway). But there was some truth in it, as in most main events just use the super popular casters. Think it got better though and we saw a few more casters rise to fame lately. So we might even see a female caster emerge that builds up a dynamic with some male casters.
Because people love dual casters in sync the most.

She didn't pose for some nudie mag. She posed for a Maxim gamer girl feature (iirc). It wasn't racy at all.

Zombiegrub is part of Clarity's casting crew and Soe still casts on occasion(though I think she also does dota stuff now), but the thing is most female personalities in the sc2 scene have switched to Dota/LoL over the past year and a half.

And OGN and GOM both have 1 female caster for proleague/gstl, and as stated before, there have been female casters for english gom casts.
If you don't like it, you can quit.

there's a female league caster who just says "go ahead" a million times

there have to be decent ones that just don't get exposure
I think it's finally time to admit it might not be the year of Pet

I like her game related art segments the most. I really hope she starts contributing to NASL (or WCS AM or EU) again soon

if I am not misinformed, in about half an hour a "DeutschCast" will start (german cast, where you are not allowed to say anything in english, and if you do, there will be punishment. It is a fun event rarely done by Mori09 of the mystarcraft.de community and actually really hard, as not only the german language is influenced heavily by english, also for the game a ton of english vocabulary is used, from unit names over stuff like "cheese" and "snowballing" up to "expand", "natural", "game" and many more.
This time the cast is only organized by Mori09, the ones doing the cast will be two austrians (yeah, the same country and accent as Monchi), one caster is "cRY" and the other one "Becci" from "Beccis Playground". She is a girl, and about to cast some SC2 action (and she is not the first woman to cast/cohost a cast alongside Mori).
It is not like there would be no girl at all casting, but those who do cast do so for fun and only when they feel like, not for a year every evening out of their basement hoping to eventually get picked up by a big event.

Watching this atm: She is not a fantastic example of a knowledgeble female caster really. But I guess this is just for a laugh anyways.

If I encounter a female caster who is as knowledgeable as apollo or artosis or as entertaining as totalbiscuit I'd gladly listen to her. However... I know of no such person, nor do I believe such a person is currently in existence
EDIT: Actually, Soe is pretty good, but not in the same league as the top top casters imo.

I've seem some and it's fine, but they should stick with the analytical part, every time i see a woman shout casting trying to mimic that tobi/tasteless caveman style i just laugh my ass off.

Also, sheever is a regular caster in dota.

There's a couple decent female casters in DotA. Sheever isn't great, but she's at least as good as Blaze or Vykromond or LysanderXonora; and Meruna doesn't cast very often but when she has I thought she was really good at it. That being said its obviously a small number, and there may be decent casters who get pushed out of the industry by the "fans" who are complete pricks. I can't remember her name but joindotA had a female caster (Diamond?) who was pretty bad, but the fans treated her in an absolutely disgusting manager. I haven't heard from her since.

in starcraft and the RTS genre, the female participation, it's hardly major than a 5%

in the BTS genre with games like WITE, WITP, TOAW, or dominions, I have no seen any woman playing those games yet.

To be honest, dota fans act like that to anyone who suck the slightly. Triumph also gets insane amounts of hate, Lumi, ayesse, even tobiwan.

Maxim isn't Playboy and that's a pretty bad example. She should have never been hired in the first place and the fault rests on GOM not so much her. It's not much of a deterrent compared to everything else they would have to deal with and I see many women doing just fine. From Soe, Anna, Rachelle, Susie, Sjokz, Smix, Sheever, etc. The list goes on. No matter what you will have to deal with some bullshit along the way whether you stream, post, etc. It comes with the territory. Likewise, regardless of your gender you will be targeted no matter what. We hear casters say a lot of dumb things and they're called out on it regularly. They just don't have to deal with the sexiest and other immature comments. You learn very early on to block that crap out because it is irrelevant.

You sir, are getting it completely wrong. Generalizing things to men/women is just BS, because that tends to prevent people from doing things they enjoy (women doing "men" things, men doing "women" things).

Not even noting "unealthy", "antisocial" as qualifiers for esports, which is incredibly wrong (haha, Nada's body !)

Every so often we have threads or blogs that come up discussing 'women in gaming' and it always is the same response. 'Why aren't more women playing SC2' and 'why aren't more women casting SC2' are going to have the same responses (not a big population in SC2, much less so in those willing to dedicate time to SC2, sexism etc etc), except that CASTING is even worse because you not only have to have good knowledge, you have to be able to talk well and get that knowledge through. Oh, and those who get by with not mentioning they're female to avoid the sexism/hatred/general unpleasantness that might arise? That's kind of thrown out the window when you talk.

And I wouldn't try bringing up 'but they could be play-by-play if they have a good voice!' because we all know if the girl isn't masters, people are going to call her an attention whore, no matter how good her play-by-play is.

Since you honestly asked how you could find more, however, the ones that are worth it are usually going to be found like finding a good male up-and-comer, because they won't tweet 'GIRL CASTIN XOXO'. So pretty much a) by chance and b) you are actively searching for a new caster to like. But already some people have mentioned good ones here, so. Personally, I'd suggest Zepph, who might've been who you heard on basetrade.
