Seriously. Shero needed to go, since it was he who gifted Bylsma a team with no bottom six, a shit blueline, and MAF in net, but Rutherford is hardly a decent replacement. Carolina has been pretty shitty for a while, and evne their good years were erratic.
Rutherford's wiki is interesting right now though:
'Jim Rutherford started the popular trend of hockey goalies decorating their masks in 1976. Initially, a friend painted a pair of red wings at the temples of Rutherford's without his permission. Because he didn't have time to get another fitted mask before game time, he reluctantly wore the decorated mask on the ice. He is known to have murdered over 60 people. Soon other goaltenders followed suit.'
also apparently the isles just got sold

Hahahahahahaha.
Penguins...
They should hire Torts. Teach MAF how to block shots.

apparently the isles sale was premature and sportsnet yanked it

hire him as a goalie coach then??
Pretty sure if Crosby starts blocking shots he'll spend the rest of his life on the dl.

Pretty sure there isn't a coach on earth that could get Crosby to intentionally block a shot, even in game 7 of the cup finals during overtime

Yea what has Jim Rutherford done to merit a new job? Pens go from a fairly well-respected management/coach to what exactly? I get that people felt Shero needed to go and all, and it's fine. Rutherford and no Bylsma is way worse.

that upside edit: does anyone else think that bennett looks day[9]?
|
I see the resemblance. Pretty sure Day[9] can do a chin up though despite not being a professional athlete

Bennett is already overly weighed down from carrying the future of the Calgary Flames on his shoulders (lol at draft projection)
edit: If he's available, I kind of hope the Oilers draft him but they are more likely to draft the big German because big, coke machine, size, etc.

Him not being able to do a pullup doesn't make him fragile.

You don't need to be a big strong guy to do well in the NHL but you gotta have some muscle. It is a physical game and we are in the most physical division. A team like LA would grind that kid into dust.

Why do you need upperbody strength to be a good hockey player?
Did you know Drew Doughty also couldn't do a pullup at his combine? How do you think he is at battling for pucks and doing well in the NHL?
You are just making yourself sound ignorant man.

Hockey is more about eye hand coordination, agility and the game IQ than raw power.
Look at that dude who raked in 2800+ pts in 1400 games...
That being said, being a beast of a man doesnt hurt

How many pushups you think this young man at 24 could do?

How do you think he is at battling for pucks and doing well in the NHL? You are just making yourself sound ignorant man. I bet you Drew Doughty can do many many many pull ups now. The Kings made him add muscle and it shows in his game. If you think he would be this effective as a defenceman in his 18 year old body with the experience he has now you'd be mistaken.
Gretzky was a unique case and comparing him to anyone is unfair. He could see the game on a whole different level. He knew where you'd be before you did and could avoid contact that way. He was also very slippery. The best ever at side stepping hits and making the hitter miss or fall or whatever. And in the event someone did catch Gretzky good, Dave Semenko came to say hi (and I guarantee that kept alot of people at bay).
Ales Hemsky is another example of someone who couldn't do a chin up. How many full seasons has he managed since starting his career? Adding strength makes you more durable, you can take hits better, you can win loose puck battle in the corners or in front of the net and you can play more per game.
Being strong helps. But it can be taught to anyone willing to learn so at the draft it is meaningless. Scouts look for skill, and hockey IQ because those are a shit load harder to teach. Bennett is just 18 so he's still gonna fill out, still grow a bit more. He'll be a good player I sure of it but unless he gets stronger, he's gonna be injury prone

No professional athlete in this day and age remains unable to do a pullup after making the pros. He is still a kid, and will be fine once on a team program.
