Well, in Oregon, it is a pretty cut and dry situation. There are regions of Oregon that heavily use y'all. They've never lived in the South. The only common quality among all the Oregon communities that use it is that they are all deeply rural/agricultural areas where education is very poor. If I may use my favorite example: Molalla high school does not offer second language classes. But they offer classes on using a tractor. Yes, really. This kinda quality (though not the same thing) can be found in pretty much all Oregon communities that you will ever hear y'all. If you are an Oregon native, it is a definitive declaration of socioeconomic status.
That being said, I have met plenty of very bright people from other states who use y'all. I by no means label it purely shitty.

I only added " It's as if there is an American politics behind it." as a jokey reference against accusations that I am derailing the thread. I didn't expect anyone to take that sentence seriously. I was going to type "US politics" but it didn't flow properly.

I hope you realize how close minded and insulated you look when you resort to arguments like "None of X people I know do this" and assuming the people speaking in their native dialects when it isn't causing additional hardships to the listener is somehow disrespectful.

Whenever he has encountered someone who disagrees with his generally far-right views, he whips out "y'all", typically "y'all on the left", to paint everyone who disagrees with him for any reason as part of some vile "left entity", and dismisses them out of hand. He uses it a lot to perpetuate his arguments in absentia, such as when he challenges the assertion that the US was founded off the backs of slaves and slave ownership, and dismisses it as being unpatriotic.
I would be similarly put off if he used any other phrasing, it's the casual lumping everyone into a single category thing that's the problem, and why he generally isn't worth the time. His use of slang doesn't bother me though.

sounds silly to be so serious in a discussion around ‘y’all’, but, this. this is right for sure. this argument over the strictly superior ‘y’all’ is crazy. unless he starts typing ‘all y’all.’ then we have a problem.
and where have you grown up that ‘y’all’ isn’t respectable? as a new yorker i find this odd.
ITS EVEN GENDER NEUTRAL for you micro aggressive ‘you guys’ abusers.

This is probably as true as it'll ever be.
If those men all resigned in the next week, the white house would stop functioning with every other part of the administration, rather than creaking along.

Aside from Tillerson actively trying to gut the state department, what is he doing that people find so respectable? Putting up with Trump and working damage control?
