This is not dominanting the headlines, which on its own is pretty wild. For a congress that rails against government waste, they don't seem to know what to do with blantent government waste.

I dunno why something so mediocre would dominate headlines in a world where "rich asshole wastes other people's money on private jet" is so commonplace as to be without meaning. Maybe because republicans always bitch about waste?

Yeah, it's looking more and more like Trump was correct when he tweeted that Trump Tower was wiretapped, and the FBI and intelligence community has some explaining to do regarding its denials. We tapped a guys cell phone and can't control where he lives.... Seems like that just explained it.

They wouldn’t have wire tapped all of Trump tower even if they were tapping his phone. And I’m not sure why the FBI needs to explain itself to Trump when that issue has already been raised by congress and they were satisfied with the response.

Let's hope they're forthcoming in what I imagine will be Congressional inquiries.

WASHINGTON — A student from the Kyrgyz Republic was arrested Monday for causing what National Park officials called permanent damage to the Lincoln Memorial. A U.S. Park Police officer spotted the man using a penny to carve the letters “HYPT MAEK” into one of the pillars on the north side of the memorial. Abraham Lincoln, the nation’s 16th president, is depicted on the U.S. penny. Nurtilek Bakirov, 21, was charged with felony destruction of property. He could face up to 10 years in prison plus a fine of $25,000. Bakirov made his first appearance D.C. Superior Court on Tuesday and was released on his on recognizance, a spokesman for the U.S. Attorney’s Office said. A judge has ordered Bakirov to stay away from the memorial. He is expected back in court for a hearing Nov. 1. “This does represent permanent damage to the historic fabric of the memorial. That is troubling and presents its own challenges,” said Justine Bello, architectural conservator for National Mall and Memorial Parks. They would have wired tapped one person in Trump tower. In the world if denials, they did not lie and likely told congress exactly who they had wire taps on. Also, wire taps cannot happen without due process. Judges have to approve them. Trump can whine about it all he wants, but his staff isn’t immune to the standard routes of investigation.

Trying to credit or dispute the accuracy of Trump's tweet is a fool's errand. Trump had no idea what he was talking about, so he can't really be wrong or right since he never really knew what he was accusing who of in the first place. "Obama" could have been anyone in the government, "my wires in trump tower" could have been literally any conversation in any building he's ever owned or any call he's ever made from a tower he was in to anyone they listened to any time after he hinted at running for president (in the 80's). EDIT: Oh and of course Trump has no idea what McCarthyism was or how what happened to him would be comparable in any way. There's a story about a boy crying wolf, I don't remember the boy ending up rubbing in everyone's face how this particular time he was telling the truth...
