I feel like there is one major Democratic figurehead that craps all over that idea. He's responsible for the nickname "Oral Office" if I'm not mistaken.

He ended up impeached, meanwhile like 100% of the Republicans involved in that witch hunt turned out to be having affairs themselves. How many wives has Newt had since then?

The Senate did not remove; ergo Democratic President survived impeachment after committing perjury on a famous affair. Wife runs for president some years later. Oops.

How dare a wife run for president after her husband received a blowjob from another woman!

There have been some good signs at the state level for Democrats as far as election results, and even if they didn't snag any special House seats the actual way the candidates presented themselves in those elections they lost was a lot more persuasive than I think they're given credit for. If similar people continue to appear and the DNC doesn't spend billions running opponent attack ads to energize Republicans I think there's a lot of hope for the Democrats in both an electoral and messaging sense.

This notion basically robs everyone who voted for Trump of agency while absolving them for their choice at the same time. There's a better way than "but Trump," but you're mistaken if you think Democrats are going to benefit from completely ignoring the rise and fall of Trump.

I'm ready for future "Even Trump supported an expansion of entitlement programs."

He used the Republican Party vehicle for his ascent to the White House, but as others here pointed out, he'd support single payer if it's popular and gets the moniker Trumpcare.

Obligatory "only supported given the binary nature of US presidential elections" here (amazing how it's still relevant). Redo the election with a believable conservative dem or a brick and Trump doesn't get my vote.

Are you posturing for thread credibility or why wouldn't you wait for the 4 year report card to make that assessment, what went into that? Or have you been saying that the whole time but I forgot or missed it?

Danglars to his credit has only minimally supported Trump and has justified his vote on narrow grounds relating to the US presidential election system (which may be a simplification but it captures a good portion). I could never agree on a vote for Donald Trump, simply because of competence and standing for the US, but that seems to be his view.

I think the 2016 US presidential election just shows what our democracy has been reduced to: Monkeys throwing shit at each other. Whoever throws more shit that sticks wins.

democracy has always been deeply flawed; it's just sometimes more apparent than other times. and of course it has its ups and downs, and has been on a downward trend for awhile now.

I doubt your claim that some other dem might have gotten your vote.
the way people actually think and vote shows a very strong trend of people simply voting for their "side" then rationalizing a reason afterwards. there's been a lot of research in the area and the effects show very strongly. Trump would probably get at least 40% popular vote no matter who he was up against. and I believe you'd be among those voting for the republican side no matter what.

I really think that Trump's not just ignorantly disruptive but deliberately so.

For example: Healthcare. He should want to simply put this behind him, and move on to something that he is more likely to succeed at, so he can claim victory.

Why's he not doing that? Because failure, at all levels, is what this is about.
So with healthcare: he either further stalls Congress from actually doing anything, or somehow they miraculously succeed in destroying healthcare for millions of Americans. If you don't like America: that's a win-win situation.
From a guy who lives in reality-TV world of marketing and personal-PR, Donald would logically move away from healthcare at this point, quick as can.

Just as he knows how bad it looks that he throws out foreign-policy over Twitter like an internet-troll. Donald Trump might not be smart, but no one is actually this stupid.

Some of this is too crazy to just be crazy. It's crazy like a fox: from the Republican-elected Russo-Manchurian Candidate. He's getting beaten around the ring like a wrestling-show -- yes, he's "losing", but that's actually kind of the point. The real losers are the people who paid to watch this stupid fakery.

No, Healthcare fails because the Republican party is deeply divided and the 2 camps are actually radically opposed despite being in a single party.
There is no plan that can combine the wishes of 51 Republicans, that's why it keeps failing.
The stupidity is in that they keep trying so publicly.

Trump doesn't give two shits about what gets passed so long as he can claim credit and it doesn't hurt him financially, bonus points if he gets to make more money off of it.
It ignores such insignificant forces as time, entropy, and death

I think Donald is actually so feeble minded as to dysfunctional. His campaign and presidency is an exercise in him watching TV and hearing about himself.

Do you have anyone in mind you would have voted for over Trump that is a Democrat?

Can anyone figure out any rhyme or reason behind Trump's capitalization in tweets? When he writes "the World is watching," what is the thinking behind capitalizing world? All I can think of is maybe he wants an intermediate level of emphasis between "world" and "WORLD," but he doesn't seem like a man to bother with intermediate anything

Could be Autocorrect.

Some languages (german for example) capitalize nouns. No idea why Trump would do that though.

Also, yes, autocorrect does weird capitalization. Which is kinda strange, capitalization in english is really simple. First word in a sentence and names capital, everything else not.

Yup, considerably harder in german to capitalise properly.

Small insight here.

My bet still is autocorrect, mine (Sony) is off now because of weird capitalisation, and general dickishness.

I could imagine autocorrect wanting to capitalize World because it's part of the name of a lot of things that are capitalized (World Trade Organization, World Series, World Championship Series, etc.). And Repeal and Replace is at least kind of proper noun-like. But Cross State Lines doesn't make a lot of sense either way.

Edit: well this is sending me down a bit of a rabbit hole. I'm gonna collect weird capitalization tweets here in a spoiler.

I mean in context he clearly means nuking the filibuster, which is still insanity but not market-crashing crazy.

Speaking of, what do you guys think are the chances that the filibuster gets nuked?

Edit: My new theory, by the way, is that Trump uses capitalization like colored text in a Zelda game, to draw attention to the words he thinks are important. The autocorrect theory doesn't make sense to me because it seems very intentional, and because he hasn't gotten the wrong word almost ever.

It's also not impossible that he doesn't fully understand how capitalization is supposed to work. The guy is clearly not a writer.
