Internal strife, and a lack of people posted to key positions all while internally the Trumpster fire rages means NAFTA renegotiations will not go smoothly. And it means if they really want to, Canada and Mexico could stall tactic for a real administration if they see writing on the wall.
Or they could just outright take advantage of the inconsistent internal strife and push buttons that only serve to make it worse.
The US might be a big bully, but the other two nations combined can put enough pressure on the US to make this a political loss if it gets followed through on. At least Canada is building a lot of other trade deals so the longer they can stall NAFTA finalization, the closer the other Trade Agreements get to having proper supply chains which will lessen the impact of any NAFTA fall out for Canada.

I really don't understand why wapo even ran this crap about someone joking about putin paying trump. They have some truly compelling stuff going on otherwise and it is weird that they could toss in that pile of shit along with it.

But all the reporters at NPR agreed that it is terrible optics for the Republican party and Ryan followed that statement off by talking about “no leaks”. The report and recording also appears to have come from a Republican. The quote will lead to people asking more questions of Ryan and the Majority leader.
It could all be smoke, but so many people involved with Trump and the GOP have this weird connection to Russia and possible money from Russia. Even the garbage human, “I want to strangle democrats and let prisoners die of thirst” sheriff Trump just hired as some weird connection to Russia.

My immediate impulse is to stop going to those parts of the internet and go back to pretending they don't exist. But seriously, that's some toxic ideology brewing over there. Does that not seem like the sort of thing that can lead to terrorist groups? Time to shut down reddit and put some redditors behind bars for conspiring against the state. We have free speech and all but that doesn't mean you can say anything on a well respected and widely popular internet forum. We cant have this talk of revolution and resistance just go unpunished, its a dangerous precedent. Will trump survive? it is starting to look increasingly unlikely. Would be a bit early for the gop to drop him or would pence be strong enough to still get a lot of things done after a hypothetical resignation from trump? Wonder who will have the honor to bring trump the news, must be fun to say to trump "you are fired" lol. Oh well we will see,and if he doesn't fall now then maybe with the next story. The drama continues,
Oh yeah, that would be like sending our law enforcement after people of arabic ethnicity or muslim fate when they write about blowing up people. Ridiculous, no body would ever act on such a thing, right. Because we cann't know if the written threat to our safety is meant that way. And then treating angry white people so unfairly and angry muslim people not, that would be racial profiling.

There is a physical recorded of the Republican leadership joking about Trump receiving Russian money in 2016 right before the end of the primary. Now there are 3 separate investigations into that fact. And the story was leaked by a Republican who clearly did not think it was funny.
At the same time, Fox News and conservative outlets are pushing a debunked story about Rich Seth, claiming a PI found evidence the DNC connected. The PI has gone on the record saying he heard about it first on Fox news. They are using their own reporting as a source.

adds to the dumpster fire. paul ryan denied it (fake news, as dangles would say), until WaPo told him they had the audio recording.

I think when McCarthy said swear to god he was probably stating a genuine belief. It's not clear that it was all a big jolly-gee joke. And Ryan did seem to be making sure that comment wouldn't get out. Evan McMullin was present and he agreed with the gist of the WaPo story.

Uhh, ok. There were rumblings about this like a month ago (seems like longer), but I guess it's happening for real now.

I guess I don't like the idea of wapo trying to add to a dumpster fire rather than just giving us good shit. The comey memos were good shit. They didn't need to muddy their own water with stuff that people can argue is totally misleading. It gives Danglars full confidence to just plug his ears to the stuff that has been proven true. But because of this crap, people like Danglars don't even believe other stuff that has since been validated and totally true.

Yeah I think the WaPo article might not have run (or at least it would have had a different tone) had Ryan's people immediately said "He made that joke" rather than "no such conversation occurred." It's just a shame they didn't run the story as "Ryan lies."

http://money.cnn.com/2017/05/17/media/seth-rich-family-apology-retraction-fox-news-wttg/index.html
The family of Seth Rich, the Democratic National Committee staffer who was fatally shot last July, is demanding retractions from Fox News and WTTG-TV on Wednesday for their inaccurate reports on the unsolved murder, a spokesman for the family told CNN Wednesday.
"The family is officially asking for a retraction and an apology from Fox News and from the Fox 5 DC affiliate for inaccurate reporting and damaging the legacy of their son," spokesman Brad Bauman said.
This week, both Fox News and WTTG-TV published and aired reports, sourced to private investigator Rod Wheeler, that said evidence showed Rich had been in contact with Wikileaks before his death. Wheeler later told CNN he had no such evidence and that he had, in fact, only heard of some information attributed to him from a Fox News reporter with whom he spoke.
Even Rich Seth's own family are asking them to stop, and they won't because Fox won't shut it's inaccurate reporting.

Yeah, I definitely believe them 100% about their "big joke." I would love to hear the audio, though, as that's the one way to clear this up for certain.

Can someone tell me what the legal consequences are for this? I've never heard of someone successfully ignoring away a regular subpoena, but maybe there are special rules for Congressional subpoenas?

So by denying the authenticity of the transcript, the WaPo was therefore justified in pretending it was anything other than a joke. This Russia stuff is just getting out of hand. Trump makes fool of himself, media asks America to hold their beers.
