I don't think china will tolerate a nuclear NK. Thats my hope the world doesn't end position and I'm sticking with it. What tool does China have that does not end with a bloodbath? China really does not have a lot of power of NK anymore.

I also don't believe there is anyone in the military that thinks attacking NK is a good idea. They are pretty pumped about bombing terrorist, but not the country that can level that capital of SK with conventional artillery. That might be the only think holding Trump back.

I think an option is some type of covert ops assasinstion w/ a missle defense ring or just deal with a nuclear Korea and let them do something dumb first. There is no justification for conventional military force right now.

Why do you think hes doing a good job if you think that the strategy he is pursuing is flawed at a fundamental level and could never work?

None of the problems go away if you kill Kim, it only makes the nation more unstable.

I don't know all the details, Trump has access to so much more info, so it's basically based on trust lol.

Then it seems the only option is to just deal with a nuclear NK, and call their bluff.

If you still trust him now, what does it take for him to lose that trust?

dude, he's being guided by mattis 100%. I think mattis has studied war long enough to understand the best course of action here.

Iirc Trump said there would only be an extreme response if NK did an actual underground nuclear test, not fire missiles. We'll see what they do after a NK test of that sort.

I don't think china will tolerate a nuclear NK. Thats my hope the world doesn't end position and I'm sticking with it. China has already tolerated a nuclear NK for 10 years. Although you are right that it has pushed them from a firm ally of NK to a very reluctant strategic partner.

The only problem isn't just the nukes but also the 1 million + soldiers only very short distance away from Seoul. If this ever escalates this is going to be a really bloody war for both sides even without nukes.

So I get that the people of NK are completely isolated and cut off from valid information, but what about the leadership? How are they so dumb

I can see this work actually. Kim wants to stay in power and the usa and china want denuclearization. The usa can not remove kim anyway without support from china but if china also doesn't want north korea to have nukes then this does seem like a very plausible solution. Kim gets guarantees from both china and the usa that they wont do anything to remove him/seek reunification.and in turn he gives up the nuke program. He would not trust the usa with that off course but he might trust a guarantee from china.

No, NK will never give up its nuclear capacity. a bazillion times more so while the US is lead by an idiot.
That nuke is keeping NK safe.
ps. Ask Ukraine how those 'disarm and we will protect you' treats work out.

I think there will be a deal within1-2 years,it wont escalate further because that simply is not an option. the usa cant do anything without support from china and china wont support a regime change,so this is the only thing left.
