John McCain hasn't met a war he doesn't like. Nothing new.

I'm shocked this escalated so quickly. I'm also torn. I want Assad out but can't help but feel Trump's ego will fuck things up. The question now is how do Syria\Russia\Iraq respond? This is certainly an act of war against Assad.

Probably with a revenge swipe at some time and place of inconvenience to the US.
History will sooner or later sweep the European Union away without mercy.

Assad isn't going to do shit. He is going to sit there for a while until the heat comes off and then continue being terrible without chemical weapons. The EU isn't going to do shit. The US isn't doing to declare war. This is it. 60 kinda meh warheads that we can launch of a politically safe distance as an empty airfield.

Maybe Assad will break them out again in like 2 years when Trump is looking super weak, see if he can get the missile count up to 120.

To me this seems just like Obama's proposed "shot across the bow" in response to chemical weapons. It's just a (relatively) small scale response to the use of chemical weapons, as a warning that he can't do that again. But we will have to wait and see the follow-up I guess.

McCain used to have a back bone. Then he wanted to be President and he had it removed to gain party approval. He used to be a bridge builder, back when he could trick democrats into thinking he would help them later on.

Christ stuck watching MSNBC and of course Chris Matthews is speaking, the man who is too stupid to be on live TV when his program airs.

tbf, Obama used Congress' refusal as an excuse. Action was debated for days before the administration trotted that one out. It was a face saving maneuver, because the "red line" was an idiotic idea in the first place.

The degree of Trumpian hypocrisy will depend on how much more Trump does.

It's the kind of retaliation that leaves you thankful that it wasn't worse, but also leaves you wondering whether it was really a good idea to do that.

Yeah, Obama was a coward. Not much to debate there.

So is this still the patriot act? No approval needed to go to war with a new country?

Israel has been bombing Syrian strongholds for ages. I wouldn't worry about it.

How do you figure it was an empty airfield? Probably had Russian equipment there at minimum.

Regardless this exactly what Hillary wanted/wants and what Obama did put to Republicans in 2013, what happens next though is anyone's guess.

Putin is going to look like a little bitch to Trump if he does nothing though.

Yeah, attacking other governments with no congressional authorization is totally a thing you should just do. Its cool and wouldn't end with the Republicans whining about abuse of executive power.

The House Republicans are a group of bitches and wouldn't even authorize a single airstrike. And now they are going to praise Trump for doing the thing they would have voted down in 2013.

Russia has their own airbase. The only sense in which it's Russian equipment is that it's old Soviet stuff from ages past that Syria now has.

There were Russians on the base but the portion where they were housed was not struck.

I'm sure it had some equipment in it, but they had to know once they dropped the gas that the US might respond.
