But now he has a more legitimate claim. His taxes taken and published in a questionably ethical move? Its a specific instance he can point to where he has legit reasons to call foul. Plus they showed nothing so he can use that as a way to slow the "show us your taxes" chants from the left. She gave him a lot of ammo.

Eh, I'm not into over analyzing a non-story that will fade away in the next 12 hours. At worst he can deflect a bit or whine. But Trump has the attention span of a gold fish.

Don't be dissing goldfish like that I also dislike comparing Trump to an orang-utan because it is offensive to librarians and the great apes everywhere.

This sounds like infowars-level conspiracy stuff and seems like a good example of Russophobic media frenzy.
I'm quite interested in what Comey has to say about the potential on-going investigation.

I'm not saying I agree with Kasparov entirely. just that he pointed out before that this could be a distraction. He does tend to be a bit conspiratorial but then again he knows Putin better than I ever will. I think the general point was that people were wasting time on the taxes and its possible Trump leaked it as a bit of good pr. and even if he didn't I'd still rather focus on other things than a newsperson making a dumb play for ratings.

I am absolutely sure that you're wrong there. There's a difference between "having an attention span like a gold fish", and being a narcissist.
He will constantly point to this now, every time his taxes etc are brought up. The same way he constantly points back to how he was against the iraq war (regardless of truth or not). It's not bullshit he made up like the wiretap, where he wants to not talk about it. This "confirms" him, regardless of how stupid it is to point at sheets of papers of a decade ago and say "well there you have it, they illegally leaked it and proved nothing".
He'll milk this. And the worst part is, it was so foreseeable, it's ridiculous. And it fuels into the "dishonest media" narrative, in fact in this case rightfully so. Trump fans need way less to have their narrative confirmed.

Confirmed leaked from Russians.
But seriously, the most trusted mouthpiece of corporate media on the center-left just baited her audience hard and a lot of them won't be happy about it.

I'm trying to figure out why anyone would think that it would be a good idea to run that story. You'd have to be a hardcore adherent to "any publicity is good publicity" to think that Maddow's show came out ahead on this.

Also, on Thursday a possibly very angry Irishman with nothing too lose will be visiting the white house.

Is there more to the tax returns? Was only a small (innocent) portion leaked? Or was it the whole thing that turned out to be a non-story?

More the table of contents of the return than anything.

Maddow def looks bad. Why hype it before you have anything good? Either way, while it isn't positive for the media it's not like it's fake news (which is the much more dangerous narrative than bias media) since the administration admitted it was real. The real loser is just her. Obvious the right will hate her regardless. Problem is she loses respect from people on the left as well.

Considering the narrative is "media makes stuff up to make me look bad", i bet he'll call it fake news. Which it is, the tax returns are loaded. Everyone expects (some hope) that there's dirt in there.
If you then go out with big trumpets and parade shouting "i got them" and there's nothing, yeah. It's kinda fake news.
Even if you're generally a sane person and argue "well fake news is stuff like breitbart and infowars", being wrong has never stopped trump so far. He'll call it fake news, and his followers will swallow it, cementing the "fake news" bullshit in a large portion of your country.
|
Literally the only thing gained from that is you can call him out on the "hundreds of millions" lie.
|
This doesn't really qualify as "fake news." It's more accurate to call it "stupid news."

The way you dodge dishonest media claims is to keep things above board. Hammer him on healthcare, taxation, foreign policy, whatever. He deserves it. This kind of stuff feeds the opposition treats.
