Donald Trump scolded media big shots during an off-the-record Trump Tower sitdown on Monday, sources told The Post.
“It was like a f–ing firing squad,” one source said of the encounter.
“Trump started with [CNN chief] Jeff Zucker and said ‘I hate your network, everyone at CNN is a liar and you should be ashamed,’ ” the source said.
“The meeting was a total disaster. The TV execs and anchors went in there thinking they would be discussing the access they would get to the Trump administration, but instead they got a Trump-style dressing down,” the source added.
A second source confirmed the fireworks.
“The meeting took place in a big board room and there were about 30 or 40 people, including the big news anchors from all the networks,” the other source said.
“Trump kept saying, ‘We’re in a room of liars, the deceitful dishonest media who got it all wrong.’ He addressed everyone in the room calling the media dishonest, deceitful liars. He called out Jeff Zucker by name and said everyone at CNN was a liar, and CNN was [a] network of liars,” the source said.
“Trump didn’t say [NBC reporter] Katy Tur by name, but talked about an NBC female correspondent who got it wrong, then he referred to a horrible network correspondent who cried when Hillary lost who hosted a debate – which was Martha Raddatz who was also in the room.”
The stunned reporters tried to get a word in edgewise to discuss access to a Trump Administration.
“[CBS Good Morning co-host Gayle] King did not stand up, but asked some question, ‘How do you propose we the media work with you?’ Chuck Todd asked some pretty pointed questions. David Muir asked ‘How are you going to cope living in DC while your family is in NYC? It was a horrible meeting.”
Trump spokeswoman Kellyanne Conway told reporters the gathering went well.
“Excellent meetings with the top executives of the major networks,” she said during a gaggle in the lobby of Trump Tower. “Pretty unprecedented meeting we put together in two days.”
The meeting was off the record, meaning the participants agreed not to talk about the substance of the conversations.
The hour-long session included top execs from network and cable news channels. Among the attendees were NBC’s Deborah Turness, Lester Holt and Chuck Todd, ABC’s James Goldston, George Stephanopoulos, David Muir and Martha Raddatz,
Also, CBS’ Norah O’Donnell John Dickerson, Charlie Rose, Christopher Isham and King, Fox News’ Bill Shine, Jack Abernethy, Jay Wallace, Suzanne Scott, MSNBC’s Phil Griffin and CNN’s Jeff Zucker and Erin Burnett.
Arthur Sulzberger, publisher of The New York Times, plans to meet with Trump Tuesday.
There was no immediate comment from the Trump Team.
New York Post thing is extreme sensationalism as is their standard. A whole bunch of other sources out there now that say there was some calling out but it wasn't this massive confrontation.
Kellyanne Conway said things like:
“There was no need to mend fences,” Conway said. “It was very cordial, very genial. But it was very candid and very honest. From my own perspective, it’s great to hit the reset button, it was a long, hard-fought campaign”

Do you want Duterte as a leader? How can you honestly think this behaviour is democratic?
It is democratic. Trump was elected by people whom the press have held in contempt for years. He is merely doing what we have wished that our political leaders would have done for decades: fighting back against those condescending, contemptuous assholes who constitute the press establishment.

That's not his job though, he is supposed to govern. If the media holds "these people" in contempt they should have created their own media outlets and try to get their truth out there. Trump is not a megaphone for the disenfranchised. Well at least he's not supposed to be.

Just think about how many times something is criticized due to how it makes someone feel or how it reinforces some dynamic, regardless of its correspondence to reality. Most outlets seem to be focused on entertainment and identity reinforcement since that's how you attract and maintain a consistent viewer base.
all that's left is for the cable news networks to dissolve entirely. doesn't watching 50s era news programming make you sick to your stomach?
On November 22 2016 11:32 GreenHorizons wrote: CNN is quite full of liars, for what people assume, is the more fair outlet between Fox, MSNBC, and them.
Being less biased than FOX or MSNBC is a very low bar to clear. CNN barely manages to clear it.
Truthfully. Nobody manages to clear the bar by much. It is really hard to find unbiased media reporting on politics or news these days. Makes it all the more important to get as many versions of the same story as you can and filter through the bullshit.
I'd say cspan does just fine. there's also some pretty decent newspapers. It's too bad there isn't more of a market for unbiased reporting, not that most people could even tell what unbiased reporting is. also there's plenty of people worse than fox and msnbc, at least on the internet.
I'd take it up, but I'm not a journalist and people barely listen to me anyways, so it doesn't seem worthwhile. and I highly doubt a significant number of people will ask me to start doing it and condense the info for them.
i wanted to hear about your no-growth capitalism but you are dodging me on that
Do we really think it's fair to blame the media for this? They know what people watch. Right wing radio did a great sales job to convince everyone that the press was ultra-liberal and not trustworthy (totally by coincidence validating their own existence). Then, seeing that news sources that affirm the consumer's worldview are incredibly lucrative, everyone went after those dollars. Even in attempts to be "neutral" they screw it up. Someone on the last page mentioned Crossfire. That show is an example of what is wrong with the media. "Balance" isn't two partisans giving the party line (the old 'opinions differ on shape of Earth'). Balance would be smart people giving as many facts and as much context as possible. Crossfire-style shouting just gives the impression that there are always two opposing views with equal weight.
It's not the media's fault nearly as much as it is consumers who want to be affirmed more than they want to be informed.
IMO this sense of glee from Trump supporters is pretty awful. If Hillary had won, called a meeting of the media, and used it to chew out Hannity, Bannon, and Alex Jones for being liars, how insane would the right wing be going about the attack on freedom of the press? They would be right, by the way.
It's also pretty hard to take complaints about bias seriously when a candidate just spent an entire campaign lying all day every day. How should a "balanced" or "fair" press cover that?

Actually, the mainstream media, compared to the world as a whole, is pretty good. The problem is people are more often ignoring the mainstream media for their preferred narrative bubbles.
This is Trump doing what he does best: throwing red meat to his LCD voter-base, attacking a target that is mostly benign and unable to singularly respond. Very straightforward demagoguery.

It seems like we're going back to the deportation policies of Obama'08. Deportation of any undocumented alien following any arrest. Can Trump become the deporter-in-chief?
Edit: These high resolution photos are pretty good.
Please don't pay attention to the wall portion of that.
You should be terrified about whatever is written on the bottom of that document. It's at least 3 bullet points about Voter Rolls, Amendments to the Nation Voting ? and Directing the Deparment of Justice to do something presumably related to voting (it's between two points on voting).
This election was already influenced pretty heavily by voter suppression, it seems likely that trend is going to continue.
We can play this game you say voter suppression was taking place i say their was an attempt to curb voter fraud. Stop fear mongering, we will just have to wait and see what these policies entail before flying off the rails.

I'm just going to point out that there's huge amount of irony in you calling someone a "fear mongerer" and then endorsing attempts to curb voter fraud, which objectively is not a major issue or problem at all.
Just saying'
So enforcing the law is equated to fear mongering now. Trump almost lost this election to the swath of illegal voters which will be ousted once his immigration reform is put into place. Something around 2-3m convicted illegals will be deported and non-criminal illegals are still up in the air.

CNN is pretty damn terrible but given the sources Trump quotes and links in his tweets, the people he gives interviews to, the fact that a Breitbart exec plays a central role in his team, it is 100% clear that this has nothing to do with the quality of mainstream media, but with his inability to handle any criticism.
This is a guy that couldn't let go the fact that Rosie O'Donell joked about him on some irrelevant morning show, and has been foaming at the mouth about it for several years. Among a dozen other twitter wars and lashing out in the press for every slight, real or perceived.
And we've known this about him from the start of the campaign, it comes as no suriprise that a 70 year old didn't magically get a thick skin and common sense overnight. What is mind boggling however, is how many of his supporters think he's doing this as some kind of truth crusade with the media instead of seeing this as the tantrum it is.

How is shitting on shitty media leading to the death of free press? If the media is trash. They need to be told they are trash so they can get better. Trump is a self serving moron. He gave these idiots crap for being anti Trump but their extreme bias is a big reason he won. Do you think he knows that? My guess, probably not. But it might serve as a wake up call for the media to get their shit together and realize they are grossly out of touch with society. The fact not one pollster, not one anchor, not one network exec could fathom Trump winning shows just how little they know. Their hatred towards him spurred alot of voter to Trump and all of Trump many, numerous, inhumane shortcomings they focused on blinded them of that possibility.

You can't be serious? CNN hit rock bottom this election cycle. Planting members of their audience, telling them what questions to ask, how to answer questions the hosts ask them, rigging their own polls. Not to mention giving presidential debate questions to the Clinton camp before the 2nd debate.
They lost whatever little credibility they had, its laughable they are even being invited to anything to do with politics.
edit: Fox News was anti-Trump for most of the election cycle, because they hate the Democrats more it turned them into the most balanced news organization this election cycle (as incredible as that sounds). There were Fox shows that shat on Trump all the time.
So its kind of ironic how low everything has fallen that Fox would become the most balanced news source.

You seem to think that because there are shows that shat on Trump, and shows that praised him, Fox is good media. No. It's still trash. It was just trash that didn't uniformly pick a side.
And it really isn't the president's job too invite the msm to a meeting and then shit all over them. We can definitely have the discussion over how the media should be reformed, especially in order to deal with the newfound revelling in truthiness. But what this meeting was, was Trump just going "neener neener" at them like he's some 8-yo whose mum agreed with him over his brother. It is foolish and childish, and while it doesn't mean the end of the free press, it should certainly not make xdaunt and you that happy that your president elect throws temper tantrums like a spoilt brat.

Donald Drumpf scolded media big shots during an off-the-record Drumpf Tower sitdown on Monday, sources told The Post.
“It was like a f–ing firing squad,” one source said of the encounter.
“Drumpf started with [CNN chief] Jeff Zucker and said ‘I hate your network, everyone at CNN is a liar and you should be ashamed,’ ” the source said.
“The meeting was a total disaster. The TV execs and anchors went in there thinking they would be discussing the access they would get to the Drumpf administration, but instead they got a Drumpf-style dressing down,” the source added.
A second source confirmed the fireworks.
“The meeting took place in a big board room and there were about 30 or 40 people, including the big news anchors from all the networks,” the other source said.
“Drumpf kept saying, ‘We’re in a room of liars, the deceitful dishonest media who got it all wrong.’ He addressed everyone in the room calling the media dishonest, deceitful liars. He called out Jeff Zucker by name and said everyone at CNN was a liar, and CNN was [a] network of liars,” the source said.
“Drumpf didn’t say [NBC reporter] Katy Tur by name, but talked about an NBC female correspondent who got it wrong, then he referred to a horrible network correspondent who cried when Hillary lost who hosted a debate – which was Martha Raddatz who was also in the room.”
The stunned reporters tried to get a word in edgewise to discuss access to a Drumpf Administration.
Drumpf spokeswoman Kellyanne Conway told reporters the gathering went well.
“Excellent meetings with the top executives of the major networks,” she said during a gaggle in the lobby of Drumpf Tower.
Arthur Sulzberger, publisher of The New York Times, plans to meet with Drumpf Tuesday.
There was no immediate comment from the Drumpf Team.
Do you want Duterte as a leader? How can you honestly think this behaviour is democratic?
It is democratic. Drumpf was elected by people whom the press have held in contempt for years. He is merely doing what we have wished that our political leaders would have done for decades: fighting back against those condescending, contemptuous assholes who constitute the press establishment.
At this point you are just making stuff up as you go right? How on earth is the Government indulging in strong-arming of the media democratic? Whats next? Revoking White House press passes of all media outlets critical of you? You would fap for that as well I presume.
Let's all "fap" with xDaunt for the government's war with free media.
1- that the media is good or not is not the point. That a president starts a war with them is horrifying.
2- if anything the media helped massively Trump by torpedoing Clinton with rumors on "question being raised" and "shadowy" stuff when there were nothing at all, piled on her email as if it were the watergate and completely failed to hold Trump accountable for his many, many, many real scandal (HOW did we hear 20 times more of the emails than his fake university??) and his constant lying. That and the free coverage by retransmitting his meetings unedited during the primary.
Trump should fucking thank them, they have been unbelievably biased towards him.
3- Nobody saw that victory coming because it's a huge polling upset. Period.
4- Trump's problem with the media is that the media is, precisely, doing its job. His attack on the NYT for example were motivated by the fact the NYT was making him accountable for the crap he says.

Press in the US is free to lie till their fingers start bleeding and their tongues fall out, but Trump has the right to tell them all to fuck off. There are serious news organizations that didn't take sides or didn't take money from political donors this election cycle and they will be welcomed with open arms in the White House.
Tabloid filth and corrupt media arms of political parties have no place there.
Donald Trump recommends Nigel Farage for British ambassador to the United States - but No 10 tells him 'there's no vacancy'
Nigel Farage said he is "very flattered" by Donald Trump's calls for him to become Britain's next ambassador to the United States - but Downing Street has insisted there is "no vacancy".
In a surprising tweet, which has raised eyebrows in the UK, Mr Trump made the recommendation to his almost 16 million followers on Monday night.
In response, Mr Farage said: "I'm very flattered by the comments and I have said since I met the president-elect that I would like to do anything I can to act in a positive way to help relationships between our two countries."
However, the news was greeted with a quick riposte from No 10 who insisted: "There is no vacancy. We have an excellent ambassador to the US."
But in an article for the Right-wing blog Breitbart, the acting Ukip leader said:
"Like a bolt from the blue Trump tweeted out that I would do a great job as the UK’s Ambassador to Washington.
I can still scarcely believe that he did that though speaking to a couple of his long time friends perhaps I am a little less surprised.
They all say the same thing: that Trump is a very loyal man and supports those that stand by him.
It is called trust and it is how the whole world of business operates. Sadly, the cesspit that is career politics understands nothing of this. In their world the concept of trust is transitory.
The political revolution of 2016 now sees a new order in charge of Washington. In the United Kingdom the people have spoken but the players at the top have, I am afraid, stayed the same.
Those who supported Remain now hold senior positions. Worst still, those who were openly abusive about Trump now pretend to be his friend.
It is career politics at its worst and it is now getting in the way of the national interest.
I have said since the now famous photograph with Donald Trump ten days ago that I would do anything to help our national interest and to help cement ties with the incoming Anglophile administration.
At every stage I am greeted by negative comments coming out of Downing Street. The dislike of me, Ukip, and the referendum result is more important to them than what could be good for our country.
I have known several of the Trump team for years and I am in a good position with the President-elect’s support to help. The world has changed and its time that Downing Street did too."

Mr Trump appears to be revelling in ripping up the rule book. It is highly unusual for an incoming president to suggest ambassadors from other countries.
The president-elect's proposal is also unlikely to be well received in Washington, where Sir Kim Darroch, the current British ambassador, has only been in the job since February.
Most ambassadors serve around four year terms in each country.
Mr Trump's remarks on Monday night will have further concerned Downing Street - where Mr Farage is seen as hampering the lines of communication between the UK and the incoming president.
Number 10 has dismissed suggestions that the Ukip leader might become the "third person" in the relationship between Mr Trump and the Prime Minister, insisting that the Government already has "well-established" channels of communication.
The US president-elect, Donald Trump, has suggested that Nigel Farage, the controversial leader of the United Kingdom Independence party, should be the UK’s ambassador to the US.
“Many people would like to see @Nigel_Farage represent Great Britain as their Ambassador to the United States,” Trump tweeted on Monday evening. “He would do a great job!” ... But a Downing Street spokesman said: “There is no vacancy. We already have an excellent ambassador to the US.” ... It is unprecedented for an incoming US president to ask a world leader to appoint an opposing party leader as ambassador, and the statement puts May in a difficult position.
The role of UK ambassador to the US is among the most prestigious in the diplomatic service. Sir Kim Darroch, formerly the UK’s national security adviser and permanent representative to the European Union (EU), took over the role in January this year.
