Completely agreed, it's pointless to argue whether 'miss piggy' was offensive or not, that's an old and minor story that wouldn't have made a dent in his campaign if he could have just ignored that woman's comments. But he couldn't help himself.

And this brings me back to the 'international reputation' that some of his supporters brought up. How would President Trump react to being insulted by someone like Duterte as was Obama, would he take the high road or stoop to that level and go on an insecure twitter tirade?

Yeah he needed to just let it go, pretty sure Michigan had him up a point after the debate

Also Stealth posted net favorables several pages back, the tweet left one person out, Bernie would be on the top of the list with +18

His tweets came about at 3 am, what is he doing at that time tweeting anyways? He barely gets any sleep with his rally schedule as it is. He probably woke up from a dream about hrc and rage tweeted randomly lmao
Question.?

That Trump was so easily and severely triggered by such a minor comment is what really makes this so bad. Politicians and people in general insult others all the time, often stupidly, but if you react to a minor slight with a hissy fit you're the idiot here.

Just think of it. Some leader or politician from another country calls Trump names. Trump responds by saying the other country is garbage, failing and the politician is luck that Trump is such a nice guy because the CIA could handle him at any time.

And then we are off to the races.

Are you seriously asking why calling a woman “Miss Piggy” is seen as sexist?

I don't care what it's seen as by sensitive liberals, he isn't sexist because his attacks on men and women are equal. It is you who is sexist who considers women too weak to handle insults like "miss piggy." just call him what he is, an asshole.

No, that means he's a sexist and an asshole, those things aren't mutually exclusive

So what is the word when he insults a man? Is he only an asshole and not a sexist?

If he had ever insulted a man for being a man then he'd also act sexist against men. He's never done this. You can also insult women without being a sexist. But reducing women to their looks or her menstrual periods is sexist.

So insulting a women's looks in the context of a beauty pageant is sexist, got it.

Sure, women who participate in beauty pageants are still people, not objects

Then is it sexist to insult a man's looks in a bodybuilding context?

Yes, this isn't rocket science

I perceive sexism to mean judging/insulting someone unfairly because of their sex. Assuming a woman is weak, over-emotional, etc. Insulting someone because of their looks, you could kind of argue, has nothing to do with gender. An ugly is an ugly. Since you can evaluate a man and a woman based on attractiveness in all the same ways, what makes judging looks sexist? I don't see what is sexist about it other than the qualities a woman is judged on are different than a man, simply because they are physiologically different. A man's chest can be criticized, but a man's chest is expected to look differently than a woman's. It's not sexist to judge a woman's chest differently. It's just that women's chests have different qualities. At the end of the day, it is judging looks, right?

When you start moving the "-isms" past treating people materially differently on the basis of their race/sex/whatever, you start to run into problems with the definitions of the -isms. Plus, the tendency of our PC brethren to ignore certain facts on the basis of the "isms" is just absurd.

Agreed!

In other news, an editorial by the WaPo that I find pretty good with regards to current plans for Masul:

The Obama administration is pushing Iraq into further chaos

An assault by U.S.-backed Iraqi forces on Mosul, the largest stronghold of the Islamic State, is expected within weeks — far sooner than seemed likely a few months ago. Unfortunately, the acceleration is not good news. The government of Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi is rushing the operation forward even though it lacks a strategy to secure and govern the multiethnic city of roughly 1 million people once the terrorists are driven out. It is recruiting sectarian militia forces that have a record of abusing civilians and seizing territory for themselves. Plans for protecting refugees, who may number in the hundreds of thousands, are sketchy.

In short, the Mosul offensive is setting the stage for a potentially catastrophic Day After problem. Though the United States has painfully experienced what such poor preparation can lead to, in Baghdad in 2003 and Libya a decade later, it is pushing the Abadi government to move still faster.

Military experts are more concerned about the aftermath than the fight itself. Brig. Gen. William F. Mullen, who was deputy commander for U.S. operations in Iraq until June, predicted last week that Islamic State defenses in Mosul could collapse quickly. “And then what?” he asked at a forum at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy. The Iraqi government’s plan, he said, amounts to “chips will fall and we’ll sort it out when we get to that.”

“That’s not a good plan,” Mr. Mullen said. “This is going to be ugly.”

Hang on, so it's sexist when you attack someone based on their insecurities which are predictably unique to each sex, however it is not sexist to defend someone based on their insecurities which are predictably unique to each sex.
Question.?

Insulting someone's looks isn't sexist, it is merely mean, -- if you look at it in isolation. In context insulting someone's looks can draw power from sexist undercurrents. Furthermore, with Trump we know he sees women only as sex objects and that whenever he has a problem with any woman he insults their looks.

So yes, he was being sexist, even if the mere act of insulting someone is not.
Well, now I tell you, I never seen good come o' goodness yet. Him as strikes first is my fancy; dead men don't bite; them's my views--amen, so be it.

If there were a secret ballot? He might not win. With votes a matter of public record? He would.

I mean, the GOP is blocking investigation into the Trump-Russia ties. Even though I have my doubts they don't have any worries about the ties, they can't afford to vote against Trump publicly-especially in the House-unless he totally melts down.

Granted, the Daily Beast isn't the most unbiased source, but the substance of the matter-that Republicans are refusing to allow the subpoenas to be issued-doesn't relate to bias.

At the end of the day, it is judging looks, right?

reducing women to their looks is like the oldest trick in the book to invalidate them as individuals. Trump does it all the time, see his "how can Hillary satisfy the US if she can't satisfy her husband" comment from years ago.

Also why the fuck is he commenting on Miss Universe in the first place. He is running for the white house. Do you wake up at three am in the morning ready to insult random people? Does the guy suffer from tourette?

Do you see how you took the bait? You didn't even bother to link anything supporting your feeble accusations. All this does is ensure that all the terrible things that Trump said about Machado stay in the news for another week. "Fat", "Miss Housekeeping", these are put downs that anyone can understand. You and Trump's shitlording of Machado will be your collective doom.

You can't google it? This is a case of educate yourself, right? The Clinton campaign, and the wonderful media as you pointed out, think beauty pageant drama from 20 years ago is a national issue when the election is down to a little more than a month away - this is why the election will get snatched from them.

The real reason you didn't link was because the links don't help. This has already been investigated and again, Trump is lying and taking you with him on his lies.

MOSTLY FALSE

However, the so-called "sex tape" stemming from that incident is perhaps the tamest video ever to be so termed, consisting of nothing more than some grainy, night-vision footage of a couple of covered figures writhing in a bed. And reality television being what it is, the scene the tape depicts was quite possibly staged or fabricated.

Alicia Machado did pose topless for Playboy magazine, though.

I didn't say she was a porn star. I said she cheated on TV, which I rate as MOSTLY TRUE since she and her then-fiance split.

You people's problem is that because Trump is already 100% evil, it's impossible to realize anyone else has a hand in these tabloid grudges and feuds. Your go-to response should be "who cares?"

No. Everyone should care that Trump gets into these tabloid grudges and feuds. Trump is the Republican nominee for President and is getting something like 90% of the Republican voter share. The guy is 40 days from being second place in a national election. That he lies so freely, and that his Trumplicking supporters spin so hard for him, is always relevant.

Second, what do you mean anyone else has a hand in these grudges? Trump was the dumbass up until 5:30AM shitlording Machado with stuff he can't prove.

This is the same thing as the situation with the Khans where it would actually be a complete nonissue if Trump just let it go and didn't say anything, but because he decided to act like a total buffoon instead, people are actually starting to care.

Whether his initial set of actions was offensive in any way doesn't really matter, even though that's what everyone's actually going to argue about. What matters is that the man is literally losing sleep over even a minor sleight against his character.

When the Clinton campaign coordinates with a person and coaches them, and they're getting TV interviews for the amazing scoop they bring, you have to respond. You simply can't let all these little narratives stand, or your political career stops at being governor of Utah and you have to go back to filling your own gas. He has over 20 tweets in the past two days, 3 of them about this (such an unhinged tirade), and that'll be it (just like it was with Mark Cuban and the debate), because he just moves on.

You don't understand? Sometimes people have disputes because they're people, not because one of them is Hitler and the other is the Virgin Mary.

Agreed!

Oh look, it's the guy who decided to compile every minor slight that anyone directed towards him over the previous few months and write long diatribes about how wrong they are. How cute.

No, it's the guy that you just tried to take a not-so-subtle and childish jab at for no reason (again). Please move on.
edit: with regards to your post next page: of course you were ,-)

In other news (again), I don't know if this has already been posted:

Clinton calls for new National Service Reserve during Florida swing

Hillary Clinton on Friday called for the creation of a National Service Reserve, an initiative she said would allow 5 million mostly young people to serve their cities and states on a wide array of projects on a part-time basis.

Speaking in grand terms and invoking her Methodist faith, the Democratic presidential nominee said the issue of service to others is among those "closest to my heart" and would be "a vital aspect of my presidency."

She pledged to expand the efforts of other presidents who launched enduring service initiatives, including the Peace Corps, a project of former president John F. Kennedy, and AmeriCorps, one of the "proudest achievements" of her husband, Bill Clinton, when he was president.

Hillary Clinton's new endeavor would be modeled after the Armed Services Reserves, which allows participants "to make a high-impact contribution, while still building careers and pursuing their dreams in other ways," she said.

After receiving some "basic training," those in the services reserves could be called upon to help respond to natural disasters, public health campaigns or other projects.

"Some of those assignments will be just a few days, a month," Clinton said. "Some might be longer-term. But they will all directly address a vital need in your community."

No, men aren't body-shamed the way women are.

Hang on, so it's sexist when you attack someone based on their insecurities which are predictably unique to each sex, however it is not sexist to defend someone based on their insecurities which are predictably unique to each sex.

Social categories aren't symetric; some of them occupy the dominant position, others are subject to the definitions and norms imposed from the exterior and by history. Which is why the same behaviour can be seen differently depending on who's the target (e. g. calling someone “monkey” doesn't have the same meaning if the person is white or black).

calling a woman "little piggy" is just as bad as saying, don't call her "little piggy", shes a woman!
